What's your platform of choice?

Post » Thu Jan 28, 2010 10:18 pm

PC all the way. I feel sorry for console gamers since I don't think anyone can deny that these games can only truly have their potential unlocked on the PC. I'm planning on building a new comp over the summer, so I'll probably be able to play it at full quality.

I deny it. I get the full game on my PS3 and 360 players do, as well. If you're referring to mods, I don't like amateur, unofficial content. Mods are not the game itself, so they are not a game's unlocked potential and I just don't care for mods.

PC because of mods.
PC because of graphics.
PC because that′s what I use.

Us PS3 players are always such a vast minority in these threads.

Yeah well TES was a better established franchise for the Xbox, something I hope the simultaneous release on all platforms will remedy, and don't think I'm starting a console war for saying that! I personally think that alot of Playstation 3 owners missed out on Oblivion due to it's late release, now I am sure that if I am totally wrong wrong about Oblivion sales on the Playstation 3 I will be corrected.

The game was released later for the PS3 because the PS3 wasn't even available for purchase when Oblivion was released. I'm not sure about the PS3 sales of Oblivion and I hope it's larger than I assume it is, but the PS3 got the game, proportionally, just about as quickly as the 360 did following its (the 360's) release.

I think the console availability was a big part of it but also it is my belief that Microsoft reached out to Bethesda as a popular Western RPG maker in order to fill a gap in their game portfolio - XB and X360 have struggled with quality RPGs and most other JRPG makers were in already bed with Sony/Nintendo.

You know you can do the first three with a PC, right?

Casual gaming for me, means kicking back on my sofa, couch, bed with a controller in my hands.
Also my consoles/TVs and PC are in different rooms.

Living room (3DTV, PS3, Wii)
Weck Room (PC, poker table, and HDTV)
Bedroom (Xbox, HDTV)

PC - I'm sure Skyrim will be a great game, but I need the best graphics its capable of producing and at least some mods (even if Skyrim is perfection in game form, some cosmetic and immersion mods will almost certainly be necessary to enhance my experience).

I'm sure the poll is biased in favour of this particular forum though. I'll bet most sales in actuality are for the console, in fact I'm pretty positive that's the case...not sure why there's such a discrepancy here, but I can speculate.

Guys pls, this is not a discussion about what platform the game will be the best on, all you will do is get this thread closed.
Now ofc I don't mind anyone justifying their choice but we're all civilized enough to refrain from making remarks that we know will get someone to bite yes? Go fish somewhere else pls.

Wasn't the PS3 version of Oblivion supposed to be pretty good apart from the missing additional content?

I'm not angry. That's just a bit of a "why my PS3 is perfectly fine for me" statement rather than an argument. It's just my opinion, but really, I hold no ill feelings toward any platform nor am I arguing in favor of any of them. I just want to point out that I don't want to be felt sorry for. I have everything I want (except Skyrim, of course :P).

It is, but someone else in this thread made a point that reminded me of something. Western RPGs and western gaming consoles aren't doing so well in Japan, are they? That would also mean that a larger number of PS3s are owned by those living in Japan, meaning sales of most western RPGs would typically be inherently lower on the PS3, wouldn't it? I don't know, for sure, but could that be a possible answer?

PC. I have all 3 and use all 3, but RPGs I just play on the PC if given the option. Just a habit really, I'm not a graphics nut or anything so I am fine with xbox/ps3 graphics, and I like controllers over keyboard/mouse in most cases. All 3 of them are in the same location so not even that matters. I just play on the PC when it is a rpg for some reason.

Personally, I think that the more people experiencing Skyrim, the better, no matter what their platform of choice. The game's going to be awesome no matter what!!
Will PS3 players be questing away but thinking at the back of their minds "This is great n'all, but I wish I had higher res graphics like some PC player have got!!!" ...... I don't think so....... unless they're sad

360. I have no money for a gaming computer. When xbox live was out, I got excited about mods. Poor, silly me. I should have figured MS wouldn't let players upload/download mods. Here's hoping...

Sorry to crush you but they still won't. They already said that Sony and MS won't do that. It's just too much of a pain to make it compatible and manageable.

PC only for mods. All of them is a close second, but I think mods win over simplicity (sit on couch, put in disk and play vs having to connect wires, move PC to TV, etc).

The PC easily. While consoles have their own strengths, such as high speed based games (combat flight, racing) and arcadic titles, the PC is vastly superior under scrutiny. It has vastly better graphics, mods, more control combinations, better processing power, and better everything associated with gaming. The only downside is cost, while you can get a computer that still outclasses the 360 and PS3 for the same price you would pay to buy one of them, in order to really take advantage of the computer's strengths- you need to shell out about 1,000 dollars. For the hard core gamer, it's always going to be the PC, however to the more casual gamer the console would be the way to go, simple to use, simple to buy, and only a mildly trained eye will appreciate the difference between the two in gameplay.

Even still, you can buy a joystick or racing wheel for the PC too, which makes flight and racing games much more accessible for PC users. Steering a plane with a mouse is insanely difficult.

PC, if all I need to do is buy the box version of the game. other wise I dont have a choice, I can't buy SK if it comes on any other form of PC purchasing options.
