What's your scepticism level?

Post » Mon Sep 13, 2010 4:34 am

I'm only slightly skeptic. Back when Oblivion was announced I got very excited and had very high expectations for the game. I thought it was going to be Morrowind 2.0. Of course when the game turned out to be different from the one I had imagined I was disappointed with it.

I won't make the same mistake with Skyrim. I have lowered my expectations to a bare minimum, I try to see all that's been revealed so far, and what will be revealed in the future, in a positive light. For example the removal of the class system. I'm just gonna take it and enjoy it for what it is.

I was rather worried at first. But that was mostly because I was afraid of change. After thinking things through I realized it all looks great and can't wait for Skyrim! :D
I voted for Not Sceptic.

I am little sceptic to the charactermodels, the woman in the screenshot look good, reminds me of my aunt. I am worried about the men, I hope they do look like something like a real "nord",

I am excited about the game and getting more and more so with each new piece of information I find out. :celebration:

I see no reason to get worked up over something I haven't played yet. Especially, since Bethesda has a great track-record for great games.

Yeah that is how I feel aswell.

I answered "Slightly sceptic," simply because there are so many things that are important to me that haven't been shown or talked about yet: animations, character models for all races, world size, graphical/technical features and scaleability on PC, availability of modding tools...

But based on nearly all the current info, I have a very positive feeling about Skyrim.

At first it sounded like a mixture of demon's souls and dragon age.. Half awesomeness and half bullshibah. But then thinking about it..

OMGOMGOMG Skyrim FTW!

The only thing im worried about in skyrim is enemy respawns. Someone told me that in dungeons there will be very little and in some cases no respawns. Whether this is true or not i dont know because i havnt read the GI magizine.

But if true, why in the world are all rpgs choosing to not have or only have a few enemy respawn. risen, two worlds, two worlds 2 had no respawns and fallout 3 and new vages have no interior respawns. WHY??. Excpecially since TES games allow you to continue playing after the main quest and dungeons ( caves, forts ruins ) are where alot of the action, fun and adventuring happens. Seriously though, we need dungeon respawns in this game, at least in 50% of the dungeons or only non-plot dungeons or only dungeons with monsters, animals and undead in. WE NEED RESPAWNS!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is all :toughninja:

TES and Fallout are RPG series, it stands for Role-Playing Games and it means they aim at creating a living, believable world in which you can focus on playing the role of the main character in a story that developers have prepared for you. What you are looking for is a hack&slash game like Diablo (note: Diablo is NOT an RPG). At some point in history the hack&slash games were called cRPG (short for computer-RPG) which created all the confusion with classic RPG games. There, does that answer your question as to why there are as few enemy respawns as possible in these games?

For the most part, I like what I see. I would still like some reassurances about the perks/skills thing, spears, and levitation before I commit to being excited, though.

skeptical

It isn't appealing to my aesthetic sensibilities. Also, "Radiant Story" could fall on its face, as Radiant AI had. The story is likely to svck sac, as long as action takes precedence, and Emil is writing. Oblivion gates have returned in the form of dragons.

It sounds like a fun game, and the rules system is seemingly much improved.

Well, what do you think? Will the Oblivion fans become as divided as Morrowind fans - some finding Skyrim better, but most bashing it atevery possible occasion?

No way, we Oblivion fans are much more positive. :celebration: I would dedicate one year of my life for Skyrim and praise it everywhere even if it was a carbon copy of Morrowind.

I'm one of the few who adored Morrowind from day one in 2002 but thought Oblivion was even better.

The first part of the series I've played was Oblivion.
It excited me really much and made me fan of the series.
It even made me to raise my standards as a gamer, and now I buy fewer games because since Oblivion I have what I call "Oblivion effect" which is a feel that any other game out there is extremely short.
I'm not buying anymore games that you can complete in a week, unless they are online games like Quake Live that never end.
I'm sure that if Skyrim is going to be another game that it will take me a year to fully complete (with all quests done, all dungeons visited) and it's quests have the same quality and cinematic feel as Oblivion, that it will be in the right direction.

Everything else is of lower importance, but I hope for the best on everything.

*Shrugs*

I wouldn't really call myself skeptical at this point, but I'm like bouncing off the walls hopeful either. Hyping up a game in your mind is the best way to be terribly disappointed when it comes out. On the other hand, I believe that Bethesda will deliver a good game.

True and yes, I have. The thing is, you should rather be asking "Why does Oblivion have them, while other RPG games don't?" :hubbahubba:

And I myself couldn't care less. In OB I would only go back to one dungeon to farm mobs, so probably won't be affected either way. However some form of NPC replacement would make sense in cities. I mean houses never stay empty for a long time, even if someone died in them.

Not sceptic at all. I trust BGS. They had the right principles going from Morrowind to Oblivion but they didn't implement them very well. Oblivion was a fantastic game, but I think it'll just be a stepping stone to amazing things down the road with the TES series after the lessons it's taught the team.

Slightly skeptic.

My info from the GI article is all second hand, but what I've read makes me cautiously optimistic. :)

I'm a little too excited, seeing some inccredible screenshots didn't exactly calm me down. Oblivion is my all time favourite game and Skyrim looks to be better.

You actually felt betrayed by the devs?

I mean, sure, a lot of people didn't agree with some of the design choices of Oblivion, but dang...

I think it's the E3 demo that people are most angry about. Especially the AI demo.

I just want to see more than a clearly promotional article in a retail magazine before I make a purchase decision. There are certain key elements to the game I want to know more about.

I found the news about the game world and AI rather good, although I don't know how well it'll turn out.
I found the news on the new combat and level system quite poor, although I don't know how bad it'll turn out.

Overall, sceptical. Daggerfall and Morrowind were great in their own ways, but I was one of those disappointed by Oblivion, and there seems to be a trend to simplify things. I believe they'll aim for high immersion and a great, interesting game world, but I also believe they'll aim for "user-friendly-ness" that takes away all complexity that makes the game fun to me, and even content that was once in the game (me wants spears and throwing weapons!).
