What if your system broke...?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:00 am

By broken, I think he meant completely trashed and in no way fixable.

Not possible!, unless I seriously POed a GF and she went Commando on all 5 of my PC's short of that its a near impossibility for all 5 to fry completely at the same time.

I've never had a red ring of death on either my xbox or my xbox 360 and I got my xbox when it first came out and I got my 360 when it first came out. Guess I'm just lucky that I didn't get faulty hardware or other people don't take care of their xbox.

The first gen 360's had [censored] processors and constantly would just fail -> the price of MS trying to lower prices with substandard components.

ALSO

MS and Sony both use cheepest thermal paste in existence and after 1-2 years of normal play both the PS3 and 360 fail routinely from their heatsinks becoming detached from their processors which causes the systems to turn on their death lights -> Blinking Red/yellow (PS3) This has happened twice to me and the Red Ring of Death (360) has happened 3 times to me.

The red ring of death was really just an issue with the first few batches of 360s that were sold. They have since fixed it, a long time ago, but I can definitely understand some people's paranoia if they were one of those unlucky few.

That is not true I fix 360's constantly with the thermal paste issue = the more you use it the faster it breaks down, same can be said for PS3's but they generally last longer then 360's before it becomes an issue.

Either way the fix is to take it apart, clean any dust out and re-paste the heatsinks to the processors costs all of 10-25$ depends on where you get the paste just make sure you buy heavy silver content paste and not the ceramic/offshoots stuff as the these pastes do not work well on the consoles as they generally run 2-3 times hotter then pretty much even the hottest PC's.

*snip*

But that's what I mean, I have one of the original 360s that I got on release day. Guess I'm just really lucky but I also blow out my 360 often to clear out dust and so on.

LOL fixing your PC would be an amazing idea. And to whoever said they would return it and get a copy for their PC....I don't think so. They would EASILY be sold out of every copy for every system at your local store. Unless you live in the middle of nowhere.

Ya, but it only takes a few minuted to download it from steam.

Hmm...

Don't have a console, but if my laptop broke, I suppose I would call HP's home repair service

Now your making fun of my home state? *rabble* *rabble* *rabble*

Ten years ago I bought a game I'd really been looking forward to, and was excited about. I installed it on my computer played for 10 minutes--I was already hooked--the computer crashed and came up with a "can't find Local Disk C:" We took it to the shop where I'd bought it 4 months before, got a new hard drive, only to have the same thing happen. It happened two or three times. We knew it wasn't the game since it did it before I reinstalled at least once. After 6 weeks in the shop the techs discovered that a lightning strike had damaged my motherboard and it was randomly frying peripherals whenever it wen't loopy.

Luckily it was still under warantee and with every hard drive and modem and CD player replacement I got a slightly better version, but man that was awful.

Oh, and the new game wouldn't load on my husband's computer since it was slightly older and had a really crappy built in graphics card.

I won't even mention the fact that I was also running a major symposium with files on that computer. (We were able to retrieve them off the dirve luckily.) Or the UTI got from stress.

If that happens with Skyrim, I'm going back on tranquilizers for the duration, or possibly just ask someone to induce a coma until it gets fixed.

I wouldn't actually buy another one to keep I would just wait for mine to be repaired by Microsvck. But I would go and buy a used 360 to "borrow" for 30 days and I would go back and return the system in 29 days and just tell gamestop I want my money back lol. Haha, you lose this time, Shamestop!!! :nono:

Can't vote because I play on a PC. I will be upgrading after summer so I would get my old parts together on a piece of cardboard and play on that.

Or I could use my dad's modest computer to play the game on low settings.

There is no cursing option.

That is what I will say if that happened. Then I would see if I had enough money to buy a new system.

I would cry... especially considering my PS3's warranty expires only one month before Skyrim is released.

Can't vote this poll. There's no option for "replace the broken parts".
