So what's your take on the voice acting?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 9:49 am

I'm not naive enough to go into a Bethesda RPG expecting Bioware levels of immersion, storywise. I had my concerns during the E3 reveal.Though after seeing the Piper vid, I gotta say I am disappointed with the cheesy, pormo flick voice acting.

It actually sounds worse than Skyrim and previous Fallout games. I suppose there will be a few standout characters with somewhat believable voice acting. So far, Cogsworth sounds the best since his character is supposed to be cheesy.

I don't mind it too much. Though it'd be hilarious if they made it as bad as say House Of The Dead 2. Suffer like G did!

The male voice actor for the player sounds like a bored, disaffected teenager.

Lol, indeed. Dude sounds like he's holding his breath or talking through his nose. I'm at least hoping Jack from Mass Effect gives a better performance as the female PC.

Hard to form an opinion when we have seen, what 3 characters speak? Only bits I have seen is the Player/Garvey/Piper. I suppose the robot, if you want to count that as a person. And even then, I don't feel I have heard enough from those characters to make a judgement call.

From the very little I've seen so far, the male PC voice seems quite disappointing. Very monotonic, with no emosion. Like Delaney was just reading straight from the script without any voice direction. Don't get me worng, it's not as bad as Maleshep from Mass Effect but not far off either. Still, it's too early to pass judgment.

I actually prefer MaleShep's voice acting over Delaney's cue card reading for Fallout 4. I have a strong feeling, cheesy voice acting will definitely be a noticeable flaw for Fallout 4.

Lol, 'No...no, that's not possible. I wasn't out for that long'. Who the hell reacts so nonchalant after just finding out they've been cryogenically frozen for 200 years with their family deceased, as far as they know?

Brian Delaney is actually a really charming man in real life. Give 'im a chance.

We all know in the end, someone's not gonna like a single thing that comes out of this story. Probably a lot of people.

I think it's best to try and make the best of it.

you guys are a tough audience. I do wish we could hear/see more of the female protagonist voice stuff though.

Someone in chock? There are many cases of people reacting surprisingly calmly to dire information, not everyone react over the top to dire news like in a Hollywood movie.

I'm fine with it. It's a "different" route than Bethesda usually takes so it'll get some negative feedback. Whether it be "the voice actors svck" or "change? WHAAAT?" It is what it is. And it just so happens to be a new Fallout game. If Sloth from the Goonies was our voice I would play it and love it.

I've heard less than 1% of the voice acting, so kid of hard to form an opinion that's relevant.

Just as long as the character’s voices consistent, that has got to be my biggest hate about voiced games is when a characters voice changes from one block of dialog to another.

So will the first mod thats made be for removing the character voices? lol

I'm sure the character voice dialogue won't be that bad. I am a little concerned about lack of context in each conversation though. Hopefully i'm surprised and the dialogue is a bit more informative and has some meat to it. More so then expected.

I don't really care how charming he is. It's his voice acting I care about, not how dateable he is. :P

He certainly seems like a nice guy. Doesn't change the fact that so far everything they've shown of his performance in this game is bored, lifeless, unengaged, and just plain bad. I've known plenty of people who are pleasant to be around but were still bad at their jobs.

Really I thought the voice acting was good.

So just out of curiosity what is considered an example of good voice acting, then?

I love how we've only heard a few lines, and people are already criticizing the game's voice acting. It's wayyyyyyyyyy to early to tell.

If you want a sneak preview of sorts, play Halo 5, he voices a character there aswell.

Brain does seem like a nice guy but he has no emotion from what I seen. This is why I wish we got 2 voices per gender.

I would have settled for either another voice actor or a voice director who would actually make him emote.

I pass my judgment about voice acting after i have played long time of Fallout 4. Say 2 months worth or so.

It is too early to say if the voice acting is bad. Who knows maybe the male voice and female voice has some golden lines that we quote years later. Give the game and people behind the game chance.

So was it Piper's lines you disliked, or the voice acting itself? I thought the acting was superb.

Well, I didn't immediately hate the male voice like I did MaleShep in the first Mass Effect, so there's that. I guess we will see what it's really like when we get our hands on the game.
