Whats considered a decent armor rating?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 6:43 am

Im new to TES games, and doing a 2-h heavy armor nord. I just hit level 27, and I have just got full orcish armor, with upgrades. My armor rating is 306 and I was wondering is I should look to just hurry and get ebony armor or if thats a decent rating for my level. I charge in a lot, so I tend to take a good amount of hits, I get too lazy to block unless I know I have to.
Any help would be appreciated

The absolute armour cap is 670-ish, you can raise it higher but damage reduction in TES games tends to cap at around 80-85% which is what 670 armour represents in the end-game.

The higher the better - but if you're not keeling over and dying all the time then I don't see there's a problem ;)

Around 970 is what I have with full daedric and spellbreaker, plus maxed out by smithing and all perks, both skills to 100.

sound about right. you wont even need to upgrade to ebony with orcish gear on. my orc berserker character easily got to the theortical limit of 560 in the 30s. that was with upgraded armor at the smithing works and also i got into lots of fist fights to increase my armor skill. supposedly anything beyond that number is wasted.

Play how you want. You don't need to nitpick over stats in this game. If you like the look of ebony, go with ebony. If you like orc, go orc.

It doesn't have any sort of diminishing returns, so the more you can get up to the cap of I think 570 or 670(there's a hidden armor bonus for wearing each piece, I get confused), the better. I'd say aim for at least ~500 if you're playing on master as melee, 300 might be fine for adept and expert if you're careful. You're about half way to the soft cap on level, so I think 300 will be fine for you currently but if you can get more might as well.

The AR(not number, but efficiency) is capped at 570 or so, so that is probably what you want to go for.

My current Armor Rating right now is about 674.
Full Daedric Armor (Legendary)
No shield because I have Dual Wield.
All Heavy Armor Perks.
I think that if I had a shield, that would be counted as a "full set" and "same set" of Daedric Armor, so my AR would increase drastically.

I thought that was in the 560's?

A decent Armor Rating is what keeps your character alive until after the battle is over or you can heal. Anything else is just fluff.

Lol, I have 40. Then again I'm still in fur from the very beginning because i just like the way it looks and RP the game. If you like the orcish armor, OP, and you're not having a problem with damage mitigation, don't rush, just enjoy it.
