http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668662.php. Will run most things decently and is in your pricerange. If you want a laptop that'll tear everything up you'll probably have to spend over $1,000. Gateway and HP have recently been making some quality machines though, might want to take a look at what they both have.

Not sure why half of this board is anti-laptop, I don't understand it. Anyway, I have an Asus G73, not sure of the price point now, I think it was around 1199 when I got it, surely it has dropped since or will drop soon. I love it, maxes nearly everything I throw at it, even Dirt 2 at 1080 in DX11. Either way stick with Asus, a friend just purchased a V60JX for 849.99 and loves it as well.

Dude you should get this mac!

This is all you need plus more...

I can run most games on medium-high setting except for crysis which gets up to medium... all > 30fps crysis >20

Five reasons why a mac is a good choice...

1. reliability- In my opinion, I prefer a new mac(stop comparing older machines to newer ones) a stable, crash free work horse.
2. Customer support... You always know exactly who to call when something goes wrong 1800MYAPPLE.... I used to own a dell monitor and it took 4 different transfers to get the help I needed.
3. The Apple guaranty that this product is exactly what you payed for. (sturdy design(check out new iPhone 4 if you dont know what sturdy means..., great hardware, great warranty, 4gigs of ram standard(Mac os x only needs 512Mbs...)
4. Bootcamp- continue to use windows as well as its unique properties, such as DX 10...
5. Its a really fast machine no matter what anyone says... Its FTW, seeing how you can take it with you.... Plus you should be getting laid not playing on your sweet gaming computer.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if his PC does blow yours out of the water and probably cost less too. Seriously though, you're preaching in the wrong forums here....a good number of us build our own PCs that would obliterate your treasured MacBook. For a fact, I could build one with at least the same horsepower as yours for half as much...$1500 for that notebook is just robbery. In regards to notebooks, his notebook outclasses the MacBook in just about every criteria (the exception being battery life and probably the screen technology) and costs $500 less:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+Laptop+with+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i5+Processor+-+Blue/Black/9736955.p?id=1218164036446&skuId=9736955

If you've never built your own PC and only bought pre-assembled PCs, there are certainly many alternative vendors out there to buy from other than Dell and Apple that have better pricing and customer support/service ....you just have to research....something that I find hardcoe Mac/Apple-fans lack in doing. To come in here and challenge a forum member's PC vs your MacBook and already claiming "To me my mac is better" without viable proof makes me wonder....

Oh, and Morrowind is a very old game now...it does not take much at all to run that game well these days.

I can't afford a laptop , but if i could i would buy this one: http://www.pcgarage.ro/notebook-laptop/msi/cx620-008xeu-core-i3-330m-213ghz/

The specs are in the right-down area of the page.

I wonder is MSI a good laptop brand? One of my friends has heating problems with his. (it overheats badly)

Moderator: Accusations of trolling are inflammatory, no matter whether you believe they are well founded. If you think the iPhone 4 is good hardware design then you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

While the moderators can't condone accusing other members of trolling, I have to agree that the iPhone 4 is a superb Bad Example. I wonder how soon Apple will be deluged with warranty claims for damage to the unprotected external antenna (even ignoring the oxymoronic status of being a handheld phone you're not supposed to hold in your hand).

And gaming on a Macbook? Costs more, more trouble, performs worse. As horses for courses go, that one should be scratched at the gate.

You don't think the iPhone 4 is built well? Have you compared one to another plastic device? Have your held one in real life?

Tig Ol Bitties
I realize that The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind is and older game... I mainly play blizzard games now n days. Such as Starcraft 2 and Warcraft 3. And a little L4D2 as well as CSS...
I think battery life is definitely a game winner for laptops... Why would you buy a laptop if you had to plug it in all the time? Pretty weak laptop if you ask me

http://www.bestbuy.c...6&skuId=9736955

^That computer has up 2-3 hours of battery life. I would pay the $500 extra for 8 more hours of battery life. 10 hours in total...
I do do my research. I also like going out in the real world and feeling the object before I buy it. Hands down Macs are built better than most PCs in its price range(maybe not specs, but in build quality(unibody-metal vs. plastic))

My opinion about the gaming market, and why a mac is a good choice is this...

The Xbox 360 and PS3 won't be replaced for another 3-5 years(which should be the average lifespan of a computer)... These systems set the standards for gaming graphics as well as physics. ie what is made on the xbox is most likely going to be standard for all platforms(graphics, physics, AI<- Oblivion!...) Crysis was the PC exception... But once you have beaten it, your most likely going to play the video games which are more popular and can run on most systems which are about 2-3 years old. Macs are great for people who need them, I think that can be agreed on. People such as, professionals who need a solid machine, college students who need a reliable machine, and the general cunsumer who needs an easy machine... Macs can not run most PC games without virtualization or duel booting, this does not mean they have no future.

My final thoughts on the future of macs...

Just because ZeniMax bought id does not mean id will run away from the Mac (Rage is still a mac focused game just like the other platforms) even though it seems that Bethesda and ZeniMax hate apple computers... ie if you compared the website for id before it was bought to then new cooperation, anything apple has simply been removed. I don't know why Bethesda and ZeniMax choose not to make equal pc - mac ports. I think developers choose not to make games for mac because they are lazy! The tools to do it are there idtech 5, steam, opengl (PS3 uses it), hardware, population... I could ramble on... Mac sell stronger than you believe even though its shrouded by the iPhone. It will only grow!

I smell a really devoted fan ;)

Anyway, I still stand by my opinion that ASUS laptops are great for gaming. However, I will admit that sometimes they can be bulky and eat batteries. You shouldn't be playing games when not plugged in anyway.

EDIT: Damn you censorship! This is blasphemy!

I agree, my friend has an ASUS and he loves being able to play games from steam. The only thing he hates is the size and weight. He is a scrawny kid....

i would build one.....can you do that with laptops?

but, if you dont mind building a desktop, Starforce9 just gave me a list of parts to make a really nice system that will take all of todays games to the max and it only costs $880, but you would have to build it, which isnt that hard. so i would talk to him.

i get more action than my metrosixual mac friends.

im glad you changed your mind and decided on the asus that i suggested. its solid gaming computer and it matches hello kitty games really well.

by the way the iphone is pretty much done now. ive played with my cousins iphone and unless they completely reinvented it in v4 its not going to beat the sprint droid i got my hands on at the store.
edit: this is as close to as i can get to my computer specs.

$3,948.00 on apple.com

# One 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
# 6GB (3x2GB)
# None
# 640GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
# 640GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
# None
# None
# 2x NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512MB
# One 18x SuperDrive
# Apple LED Cinema Display (24" flat panel)
# None
# Apple Mouse
# Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (English) and User's Guide
# AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi Card with 802.11n

this is without RAID which is an additional $700 and also they dont offer SSD drives or even 10000 rpm drives.

the cost for me to build this was $2500 including speakers, 26" samsung monitor, new keyboard everything. if i didnt know how to build i could have paid a store a couple hundred bucks and they would ahve done it for me. im still $1000 less. and i have better parts. :)

as for reliability i just tell anyone to check various mac blogs and forums. they will tell you how "reliable" they are if you check out the technical threads.

Haha waste, I bet you buy a powerful computer to hide your weakness.

Macs don't need as much resources in order to run... A mac spends less time running it self and more time running what your running.

I admit you have an impressive set up...

But this one is a better more practical solution.... $2000

http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MB953LL/A?mco=MTM3NDc2NjA

2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 ----- Thats fast enough
4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB ---- plenty for mac os x
1TB Serial ATA Drive ----- space is cheap, but more
ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB ----- pretty good for most games.... Play Crysis on medium and beat it once, most games you don't even want to play again.
8x double-layer SuperDrive ------ all computers should have one
Apple Magic Mouse ---- magic mouse is great for anything besides gaming. great battery life
Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) and User's Guide ---- great battery life

I believe this one blows yours out of the water :flamethrower:

http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MB535LL/A?mco=MTM3NDc3NjI

"Two 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon"
"6GB (6x1GB)" ram
"640GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s"
NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512MB"

And come on dude extra space is dirt cheap... You can buy terabytes for 70$ www.dealsea.com

Did you know this about the iPhone?

The retina display is the highest resolution display on a phone
The iPhone 4 has the 1Ghz A4 chip from iPad
The iPhone 4 has 512MBs of ram twice that of the iPad
App store is the largest center for high quality and volume of apps...
iOS 4.0... (multitasking, better performance...)

i could play crysis maxed out on my old rig which would be 3 years old now. if your computers only play crysis on medium settings in that price range then you guys have some serious issues. not to mention that apple drivers svck balls.

the computer that i built has 2 10000 rpm drives and a nvidia 285 card. i can do RAID without spending an extra $700. windows vista svcked........windows 7 has gotten nothing short of rave reviews. hence why they stopped the apple vs mac adds shortly after windows 7 was released. whats really funny is that a few years back all the macheads were making fun of pcs for using windows...........now they recommend it. :)

ive played games on my pc and on some macs that cost thousands more and 3dmark was higher on my computer and games play better as well. you guys use substandard second rate parts......i mean seriously no SSD or 10000 rpm drives, they have been out for years now. the best you can do is put 4 nvidia 120s together.......nvidia 120...what is that the laptop econo card.

its nice to see that iphone finally caught up with the android........to bad it doesnt do flash.

one more thing i cant take you seriously unless you admit that the ipad is nothing more than a [censored] symbol.......at least im honest enough to apologize for windows vista. and my new copy of linux trumps both windows and kittens 10.6

oh by the way you left off the monitor on that last build you posted. $899 bucks for a 24" screen.......well that sounds reasonable. :shakehead:

Well, a Mac running Windows under Boot Camp, which is what you need for PC-only games (I don't know of any Mac-only titles that I just have to have), is no better at running Windows than a PC running Windows.

"Should cost" for a PC configured same as richmanty's would be $900 (US). Even that price is inflated, because some of the Apple parts, like an 8x DVD burner, DDR3-1066, or 512MB 4850, are obsolete and relatively hard to find in the PC market.

The advantage to using a Mac is Mac OS X, and you must buy Apple hardware to run Mac OS X (claims of running Mac OS X on anything else will be deleted as piracy talk). To me, nothing Mac OS X can do is worth more than $1000.

How much is a Mac? Oh good lord. OH JESSUS! SWEET MAMA JESUS! HELP ME SANTA CHRIST! Oh... heart attack. The price eats my soul, halp dokta!

I can almost buy a car for how expensive that thing is. I expect that [censored] to turn into THE Millennium Falcon for that price and literally whisk me off to a galaxy far far away. For that price I could get two PC's that kick the [censored] out of that thing.

My (Modified) pre-built PC is more powerful then that with about $1500 put into it including hard drives.

Well, it has less RAM, but that hasn't been a problem thus far. And, you know, with only a 512MB video card you would never get the chance to use those six gigs.
