Whats a great way to level up fast? Plz help

Um, use your major skills a lot?

I've been playing Oblivion for a very long time, and I can't for the life of me figure out why someone (who understands the mechanics of Oblivion) would want to level up fast. Have you really thought this through? I mean the higher you level, the tougher your foes become. The faster you level, the more likely you are to do so sloppily and become weaker vs your foes. Gear? Iron is just as good at level 1 as Daedric is at level 20. In a hurry? Oooh, wrong game for that. Just my two septims. ;)

Leveling up fast in this game can lead to a very weak character.

Because when you level up the world changes to match your level. And if you don't get good attribute bonuses then your character can become relatively weaker.

The best way to level up is to use minors and majors of attributes that are important to your character (eg strength for a warrior, agility for a marksman, etc)

The fastest way to level up is to simply put some major skills as majors and constantly cast them. But again that could lead to a very weak character.

Welcome to the forums!!

If you set skills such as Alchemy, Sneak, Conjuration, Alteration, Mysticism etc as majors (and use them a lot) you will level up in no time at all.

However, as the other posters have said- that is a very unadvisable way to play Oblivion. The enemies get a lot stronger as you progress through the game and will out pace you very quickly.
Sure, you can always just lower the difficulty slider, but is better to build a character that levels in a slow and controlled manner.

Although I am in the minority, I disagree with all of the warnings about rapid levelling.

I play dead-is-dead meaning that if my character dies I will never load that character again. Nevertheless, I played Severus Snape for over 700 hours before he died at level 50 in a battle he could have won but for a vow which prevented his using invisibility of any kind.

Sarrah was a hellion in many ways but she closed 38 Oblivion gates and survived over 500 hours of game play before dying at level 45 in a lava flow in gate #39.

Angel is a standard class Mage who has never worn armor or carried a shield. She has survived for nearly 300 game hours and I would consider her current powers, at level 40, to be comparable to the Devines. To be clear, I play on default difficulty and use no game glitches. The only mods are a very recently added portable campsite for Angel. I have learned a lot about the use of magic in four years of playing.

It's only fair to add some practical advice to such a sweeping endorsemant so here's what I do.

Alchemy will cause a very rapid increase in level and is probably the greatest risk of zooming up the ladder too quickly. Nevertheless, it is a powerful source of protection (shield magic) and restoration even at low levels.

An apprentice of Alchemy (starting level as a major skill) should be able to make shield potions which are roughly equivalent to leather armor. The good part is that magical shields don't break down during combat as armor does. They do time out so carry several and apply as needed. Alchemy practice results in bonuses to Intelligence at level up time.

During the early stages, make only those potions and poisons that are actually needed for fighting. Practice some of the skills that are minor skills so as to get other bonuses as your Alchemy pulls you up in level. Early on, Angel practised sneaking (agility bonus), a minor skill for her and running/swimming (speed bonus) another minor skill.

By level 23, her Alchemy skill hit 100% and from then on she was free to make potions by the thousands with no more effect on her level. She became quite wealthy and was soon using her money to purchase Armorer training between levels (Endurance bonus). She could cast a special type of spell that cut the cost of training. I will say no more about that here but you can learn about it in the UESPwiki. Search for training.

Angels birthsign is the 'Atronach'. This not only increases her total capacity for Magicka but gives her the power to absorb 50% of spells that are cast against her. Her Breton race gives her a 25% chance of resisting any spells that get past her absorption. Her Alchemy assures her of a steady renewal of magicka far outdoing natural regeneration.

At current levels, Angel can fight mobs and the more, the better. Her Illusion magic can turn enemies into champions that will fight for her. Her weakness spells augment her destruction spells and with three quick casts, she can send Daedroths and Atronachs back to Oblivion.

It is true that at higher levels, the foes are tough. Severus was disarmed more than once by an advanced melee fighter. Sarrah was driven back and then over the side of a bridge into a lava flow by an advanced archer with knock-down and paralyse power. It was a fight she should have won and had won many times before.

I'm not really sure that there is disagreement here. It sounds like the characters of bobg made a lengthy and careful progession up to their higher levels.

I think newer players tend to find the game challenging. So, they ask lots of questions and start over a lot and learn how to get better.

Intermediate players tend to learn all the nuts and bolt and tricks and can build characters that pwn the world. So, they tend to get bored as the game becomes too easy.

Advanced players often intentionally gimp and limit their characters to regain and maintain the challenge of what can otherwise be quite an easy game. Some ways of increasing challenge can include leveling very high, bumping up the difficulty slider, playing dead is dead, installing mods that make Cyrodiil much more dangerous, severely limiting a character's ability to use certain skills, preventing a character from advancing several attributes. I think you'll find most advanced players employ at least some of these 'self-inflicted' limitations.

Although I am in the minority, I disagree with all of the warnings about rapid levelling.

Experienced Oblivion players are able to play any sort of charcter quite easily. Compared to Morrowind, Oblivion is a walk in the park.
There is no doubt that bobg is one of the best 'magic practitioners' on the forum, but new players simply do not have that experience yet.

I really love the efficient level character because I just focus on my minor skills and role play to the max without having to worry about leveling up.
The +5 is great because I can just stop leveling at any point (normally 25-30) and have the character well ahead of the enemies.

Informed players know that Master Alchemy can compensate for anything. :read:

If you have Invisible, Conjuration, and decent alchemy it doesnt matter how you level.

I completely disregard how I level because if your smart and think about how to take advantage of what the game has there are usually multiple solutions to any problems you encounter.. but usually good Alchemy can get you through anything.

I have found one on youtube witch is a good one:

This is for Illusion skill increase:
1- Go to one Spellmaking Altar (You can found it in Arcan University)
2- Activate the Altar and chose to make a charm spell
3- Drag the "Area" Slider all the way to the right and leave the other options in their primary state.
4- Put the Spell Range in "Target" and the magicka cost is just 1
5- Now go to a place where is lots of people there like (Arcane University" and do the Magic
6- You notice that the magic afects everyone in a 100ft range and the cost of magicka is just 1!
7- Keep doing the magic and increase your Illusion Skill.

For all Combat Skills:
1- Go to Peryite's Shrine.
2- When you arrive, you will see a bunch unconscious people, you can do wathever u want without paying a fine or any sort.
3- train Marksman, Blade, Blunt or even Hand to Hand! Magic Skill can be trained too!

Hope i helped!

how in the heck is Oblivion easier than Morrowind?

Morrowind doesn't level scale the same way as OB, so you aren't in trouble if you level up "too fast" or spend too much time improving sneak, alchemy, etc. And Morrowind gets too easy and stale by level 15, and it only gets easier from there. OB STARTS OFF real easy. But it starts to beat on you by the early teens. Gets a little easier in the late teens, and goes back to being easy again by the mid twenties.

The other thing I should mention is that I had an easier time getting by in MW without joining factions or doing the main quest. But you are very limited in what you can do in OB if you don't do any of this.

If you are not playing with a major overhaul mod like OOO, in which the game world leveling mechanisms are changed, you should look on the TES Wiki site

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:How_to_Level

I don't think Zak is wrong, but he makes it sound a lot easier than it really is. If you are fairly new to the game, leveling fast can become very frustrating.

If you install a mod like OOO, then everything changes. Instead of leveling slower being a more powerful strategy, leveling faster really does become a strong choice with some of the overhaul mods like OOO.
