Whats happend with Brink?

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 12:50 am

Hello Guys!
I found in the Steam Brink Forums an old Walkthrough.I know that walkthrough and this was one of the reasons why i bought Brink.
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/container-city-brink/59705
Look at that and then look the game.
Really why look a 2009 gameplay so much better and smoother than the 2011 full game.
I want that game in the 2009 video.Come on Devs give us PC users a patch.Really that is very sad.
What you think?Whats happend with the great graphics and the explosins?The lightning is years better as in the full game.
Sry for my english.
PS : I like the game very much and nothing is wrong on that game but this what i expect.

Looks like the devs spent 2 years to make the game worse.

i7 860 , gtx 460 , 4 gB ram, on ssd drive.

i had no problems with installation nor playing the game. colors - designs - gameplay , smooth movement. all was great. i am still playing, looking forward for the new patch and new maps.

I also have it for PC, the sounds are worse, explosions look feeble, less action packed.
They should go back to this version with the new patch.

Why only PCs? Why not consoles? I demand we console players are reconized as well, Just because we don't spend thousands of dollars on a high end computer every year does not mean we should be shortended.

let me first say this:

SD/Bethesda,if you are reading this,what happened to Brink during the final stages of development?Why is the game so different than the trailers?Just like the previous poster said,look at your own videos and compare the game.Why do you think I even bought your game in the first place,because the trailers looked dark and had a serious tone into it.It did not look cartoony,rather had a gritty feeling into it from the beginning.The graphics rather look much improved then.Seriously guys,think before why people are so different now...you blew it.

Youre blind or mad mate. Same damn game, save for the story, which got nerfed so players get straight into the action (think they went a bit overboard there, jus my opinion) & less blinding smoke with the frags so Flashbang has a realistic purpose. Graphics look like that on my HD. I play 360.

Look here are screenshots on highest settings on the same place like in the video.
http://s1.directupload.net/file/d/2532/mcexpiug_jpg.htm

And now watch the video again : http://www.gametrailers.com/video/container-city-brink/59705

I just rented the 360 version, and you are wrong. The textures are incredibly unpolished, they also pop in, and it sounds like im constantly deaf.

You must be playing a different game then. I play on 360 as well and it looks nowhere near as good as those trailers. I saw those a long time ago and haven't watched them since, but seeing them now after having spent many hours playing Brink first hand, the two are night and day different. I would actually wager that those trailers are on a PC maxed out. The lighting is way more dynamic and realistic looking. And on 360, take a look at the sky on container city. It looks like utter crap, especially compared to that preview. I think the game looks just fine overall on 360, but definitely seems like it could use some improvement if it were possible.

Some things that stand out to me:

1. There's essentially no HUD in these videos which makes it look really clean. Plus, not everything is outlined and you don't have vital information that you need on the screen that is in the final version. Not really sure they they felt the need to highlight everything.
2. I think I sort of like the idea of the arrow pointing to an objective as opposed to seeing it through the level. Before I knew the maps, I'd get lost following that marker. Not really a problem now, but an arrow showing the shortest route seems like it'd be better.
3. I think they vastly improved the objective wheel in the final game. It was not clear enough in the preview version.
4. Turrets seem far more lethal in the preview version. They're fine in the final version as assistance, which is really how they should be I think.
5. The mid-match cutscenes in single player really add to the campaign. Shame they nicked them.

I love Brink as it is (minus the rubbish online ATM on 360 of course), but it definitely could stand to improve on some superficial things. The gameplay is very solid thankfully.

I for one am glad that they went the more artistic route with the graphics. I despise realism in my graphics, I would much rather have Borderlands than Heavy Rain.

There is realistic, then there is artistic, and then there is cartoony. And I feel that Brink has taken a little half-step too close to cartoons.

@Wyatt
More artistic?
Come on did you watch the video?
Look the sky!Look all its more art like brink is now.Espacially the sun is great art.
You say : I like the much worse graphic more like the great one.

@subcons
Yeah you are right.The sound is great in the preview video,I think there is it on the same niveau like BFBC2.

Hmmm on E3 2010 the games looked like 2009,but look there are bad graphics like they are today too.Hmmm.
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2010-brink/700662
Why they changed that?

Look the airport in the greater graphic.

I play with turtle beach ear phones, I love the sound fx. Mossington sounds like a freaking cannon, the machine guns are hell unleashed. As for graphics, yeah, I think they look pretty much the same. The sky? You have time to study the sky in an FPS? Or the water? My HD handles it nicely, textures were dumbed down cos of lag probs. Pretty sure I read that somewhere & it still looks damn good to me now as is.

Me so solly. Maybe you get right version engrish & me talky more rith you *sarcasm* Dont talk down to me with your pigeon english jus cos im on an xbox. Glass houses, stones & what not.

If it is a maxed PC then, being on a 360, you cant complain or compare really surely? Are you full HD? Did you load the game to ur drive? I see lil diff.

The lighting makes a huge difference. LIke someone else said, the current state gives a more cartoony feel. And you start Container City on the dock. Sorry, couldn't help but notice how terrible the sky looked the first time it loaded up. It's got big chunky black squares in it. C'mon.

I think the game looks fine as is too and I love the art stye, but it could certainly stand to be improved from looking at those vids. But honestly, I don't expect them to make it look the same running on 5 year old hardware as it looks on up-to-date PC gear, but I'm also not delusional and saying they look "pretty much the same" when they clearly don't.

I believe this is the first console game running on id Tech 5. Curious to see what future games end up looking like in comparison running on the same engine.

I must respectfully disagree. Are you HD man? & Im hoping the graphics will improve as the lag issues are cleared as texture loading is a lil slow at mo.

Yes on all accounts. And like I've said in my post above, no, I don't expect the two versions to be the same, but I've also seen some pretty drop dead gorgeous games on 360 as of late (Crysis 2 and GoW3 come to mind).

They very well may have sacrificed graphics in order to make the game run smoother. If so, I'll take that over aesthetics any day. Solid gameplay rules all and Brink has that in spades.

No, everyone guy isnt, so try a lil respect when using my language & trying to insult me from behind your keyboard, yeah? & is this a "PC vs 360" thread or a "graphics in general svck" discussion? A good PC will always have an edge, straight up comparisons just dont work. Clarify that point before you go on. Id say my 360, with HD cable, gives me graphics pretty damn close to those in vid.
