Whats the best location for Fallout 4?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:31 pm

There is no such thing as "best location" as its all opinion based. The question should be What time should Fallout 4 be placed. I wish I knew more about the series (I only started of at fallout 3) but from what i gathered thus far. A time line to either just before the bombs fell or maybe even from the "enemies" perspective i think might have a better glow to it. honestly. It doesnt matter the location as it WONT look like anything from this world. =p

Fairly fast, the latest NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 can run any game on the market on full settings, now imagine bridging 4 of them :vaultboy: Even by the time a Fallout 4 game is released, just one of the best graphics card at that time would probably surpass 2 of 280's.

I still say make Fallout 4 in a world setting, maybe pick your starting location, like New York or China as an example, and then spend a good 40+ hours exploring around until you get to the point where you spend another good 40+ hours beating the game.

Let's say you picked to start out in a Chinese Vault, how would you get to America; stow away in a cargo bin. Maybe start out in Russia and explore the ruins of Moscow and stumble upon a Russian Vertie bird counterpart encampment and fly to England.

Pick New York, explore the ruins and travle across Canada to Alaska just to find out that the war is still continuing between China and America.

I very much enjoy the idea of NYC as the starting location and then traveling across to Canada and Alaska, considering the annexation of Canada and the better part of the Resource War taking place in Alaska.

East-coast for sure. But not the locations of the original Fallout. Then twist it with some of the stuff from F1 or 2. (mainly references etc.)
Too bad the difference in time between F1 & 3 is such a killer. :P

I second this. Could turn out quite nice.

They should set a game in Britain. You could fight in the ruins of Buckingham Palace, and have an epic main quest about restoring the rightful heir to the throne of England, then you get to fight for the cause of imperialism. There can be an epic ending where you die in a suicidal bayonet charge, trying to protect the monarch. You fall to the ground, and the screen starts fading out, and the last thing you see is the Union Jack flying in the wind above you.

Personally, I'm pretty open as to location. NYC... While it's certainly the front runner to be a location purely due to recognizability... Just feels so horribly overdone. Philly wouldn't be horrible, though it's not nearly as well done. If it's on the NE coast though.... I would LOVE to see Atlantic City somewhere on the map. And it would be a kickback to New Reno perhaps.

Outside the US.... Well, Canada has been mentioned... If they go that route, think Montreal would be an awesome place for it. It's a very interesting city. Toronto wouldn't be bad either, bridging between Toronto and Detroit. Though, I have to say.... If you want down and dirty.... Mexico City is your location. That place is rough WITHOUT a nuclear war.

London wouldn't be a bad option either... Fair amount of recognizable locations, and could give an interesting feel to it all....

As for China.... Hong Kong would be perfect for it, I think. That city is..... Very unique.

I'd say pre Nuclear war US, so we can get a look at what REALLY happened, or Texas. Since we Texans are hardy folk and far superior to the other 49 weak states.

In the Fallout world, Canada is not outside the US. :)

I think Siberia would be cool for a spin-off. In the Fallout world it was probably a battleground between the Soviet Union and China. However, I'd prefer the main series to stay in the US.

I believe they should take the game where interplay and black isle had planned for fallout 3 (Van Buren). The intermountain west, including vegas, grand canyon etc. You would have the NCR poping up, along with a government founded by mormons most likely. Lots of places for vaults? Lots of hiding places for survirors who didn't get into a vault. It would also have the added bennefit of diverse landscapes. DC is kinda boring.

It's just the part of the US where the raiders run around with hockey sticks and goalie pads

I was thinking the entire United States

Los Angles, Seattle, Las Vegas, Reno (or New Reno), Denver, Cheyene, Houston, Flagstaff ( you cannot have a fallout game without the Grand Canyon) San Antonio, New Orleans, Miami, DC, St. Lous, Chicago, Boston, NYC, Philadelphia (this would be a sweet place), Cleveland, Detroit, Minneappolis, and Lincoln (maybe). Outside the US could be Montreal, Vancover, I dont know any cities in Alaska, and Mexcio City (yuck, full of Ghouls).

One problem with the Europe idea, Europe was never nuked... China and America got nuked and after that the rest of the world only plummeted financially. Of all the places I would go, i'd scout out the southern California area.

Not true. In the Fallout universe, the whole world was nuked. The primary conflict that the games focused on was between the US and China, but there were lots of other conflicts that escalated into a worldwide nuclear exchange. Both China and the US had their allies, the Soviet Union still existed and probably fought China, the quarreling European countries probably nuked each other, Arab countries nuked Israel and vice versa, etc. Quoting the Fallout intro:

In 2077, the storm of world war had come again. In two brief hours, most of the planet was reduced to cinders.

And the Fallout 2 intro:
Spears of nuclear fire rained from the skies. Continents were swallowed in flames and fell beneath the boiling oceans. Humanity was almost extinguished, their spirits becoming part of the background radiation that blanketed the earth.

I'd say

New York- add a vehicle or two, give this game more a Road Warrior vibe than ever in a highly urban setting

Back to California- See what Betehsda would have in mind for the wastes the Vault Dweller saved.

Vegas- Same as New York but with more countryside instead of city

Texas- We'll finally get an answer to Cassidy's question...

Nevada- See what's become of Tycho's Desert Rangers.

I like revisiting the Great Lakes region. I never played FOT, but it is my understanding it is not part of the canon anyway.
It is over 600 miles from St. Paul to Detriot. But, there are severl interesting locations in between. All of the sights in Chicago, maybe running across old world's fair exhibit, submarine civilizations under the Great Lakes. Car factories in Detriot, where you could build a car. (I loved FO1 for that...gave you more space to put your stuff), sports arenas, revisit the subway (but not making them force points, just additional areas to visit) I wonder how well the sear"s tower held up>
my second choice would be the area i live in Dallas, FT Worth. indian reservations, casinos, red river, renion arena, DFW ariport, Six flags.

FOT is semi-canon. Parts of it that don't contradict FO1 and 2 are canon, other parts are not.

Midwest, in all it's radioactive dustbowl glory. Wouldn't mind seeing some sort of reference to Cassidy or his family there either.
