Whats the best way to power level Alchemy?

Post » Tue Feb 12, 2013 2:13 pm

i am trying to find the quickest and most efficient way to grind my Alchemy skill to 100, currently the skill is around 15 or whatever it is when the character is first made. my character is a level 51 warrior type build and im running out of combat skills to raise but i would like to squeeze a few more levels(aka perks) out of her without deviating too much from the warrior build. so i have decided to power level alchemy, the catch is i dont plan on putting any perks into alchemy once i start and im not really going to use it once im finished. also im on a fairly limited budget of around 5-6k septims but i do have a well stocked alchemy room that ive just been using to collect ingredients. im purely grinding it for the sake of gaining a few levels for perks to place into other skills i do want to use. i already have max smithing and enchanting if that will help. any tips would be greatly appreciated, such as good potions to make with common ingredients that will yield alot of xp unperked =D

no glitches or cheats please, also i play on ps3 so i dont have access to mods or console commands

According to the PC players greater value potions increase skill level on alchemy faster so make the higher priced potions as much as possible. I have seen some differences between PC and X-Box on leveling spells but haven't used alchemy in a long while and never really paid attention. It does seem to work that way on speech so I see no reason to disbelieve their claims.

Well, the quickest way to level Alchemy is to spend some perks in the tree - Alchemy levels by the value of the potions you make. The more perks you spend on the lower part of the tree, the more effective (and valuable) your potions will be.

It can be done, but it'll take longer. Start by gathering every ingredient you can find in the world. Create potions with these, then sell them to the alchemists and buy more ingredients that you have a hard time finding. You'll make quite a bit of money doing this as well - Alchemy is the most lucrative activity you can do, since so many of the ingredients are free for the taking. Also, loot potions when you clear out dungeons and sell them. This won't raise your Alchemy skill, but it will raise Speech, and you can use the money to buy even more of the rarer ingredients from the alchemists.

Go Giant hunting - Giant's Toe is an ingredient in some of the most valuable potions you can make. Potion effects that have a high value include Invisibility, Paralysis and Slow; there are some others as well

ETA - if you've leveled Enchanting any, you can enchant gear to fortify your Alchemy skill as well.

cool, so basically it works the same way as smithing or enchanting. i think i have lots of giant toes saved up, they are one of my characters prime hunting targets and i make it a habit to clear giant camps as soon as they respawn(its fun for rp reasons too). not to mention i have been pretty much saving every ingredient ive found since the characters creation so i do have a pretty nice base to start at

one other question, how many levels can i expect to gain after its all said and done, working out the math in this kind of stuff has never been one of my strong points =p
