I had a feeling this was going to be related to the Witcher when I saw the title. What's in the box? Probably just the game, manual, and map.

We're just talking about the regular edition right? So yeah, probably what you said...

As long as there's a copy of the game and a map, i'm happy.

Do you think it'll be just like Oblivions map?

The map of Cyrodiil (which is still on my wall) is really nice, so I hope the Skyrim one will be similar.

Maps are just cool in general though so they can't really go wrong there...

The box will contain nothing but a letter from Todd Howard, which reads "Sorry, but there is no Skyrim, there never was. It was all just an ellaborate hoax, we never made any Skyrim and all the screenshots you saw were fake, but to make up for it, have this copy of Fallout 4, which is what we were actually developing all this time."

No, I'm just messing with you, sorry about that, but I couldn't resist. Much more likely, the box will contain the game disk and a manual, if it's like earlier Elder Scrolls games, maybe also a map as well, other than that, I wouldn't expect anything. With the current trend in these things, just getting a map is pretty impressive, I think there's even games that are released without a paper manual.

I would be devastated if that happened. And yea, I think EA is "going green" and doing away with manuals. They said it's "good for the environment". Or they're cutting another corner. You decide.

The manuals with 6 pages (in TWO languages, meaning about 3 pages for each language) that aren't even in color and have basically no info besides warnings, warranty and bonehead advise like "click multiplayer to play multiplayer" really make me feel like they didn't put much effort into the game

Just a game disc and basic setup manual is fine with me.

I like maps and such, but really never use them. I'll print off a Wiki map if I really need one.

EA? Cut corners? Surely you jest...

Seriously though, when they're all officially gone, which I believe very much will happen, I will sorely miss the days of paper manuals. Some things just don't deserve to go away like that just because so many corporations decide it's a good PR move to jump on the "going green" bandwagon. It's a damn bandwagon! In twenty years, no one will be talking about reducing their carbon footprint or recycling any more. But all the stuff that's lost in the meantime? Won't be back when we all come to our senses and realize the Earth has survived worse than what we're capable of, and that in both the short and long run, we don't freaking matter. Footprint? The collective of humanity couldn't leave a lasting one if we tried, short of dropping every nuke we have on one spot, leaving a crater bigger than any of the ones on the other planets. And even then, the planet will survive. Oh the ego of us all...

Sorry to go off a tangent like that, it's just something that's been bugging me for years, and never really came out and said until now. Nothing to see here, move along. :P

Just like any good capitalist, or even an old hippy with a tiny drop of capitalist blood, I like to own things. And game manuals, real ones on paper with pictures and actual information in them, are some of the things I like to own most of all.
How can they justify the tiny amount of paper in a manual being saved, when they will happily sell you a strategy guide, with enough paper for fifty manuals.
I used to work at a printers, churning out ton after ton of pointless rubbish, and a manual for a game is a drop in the ocean. Remember that bit in Ghostbusters? "Print is dead." He was wrong. Give us our manuals, and our maps, the folding green stuff that we spend on games says we deserve them.

I couldn't agree more. The route EA is going is typical for them anyway. The excuse they're using of "going green" to justify it is pathetic.

Here's a link about EA "going green"... http://newlyfresh.com/?p=2148

I hope the map won't be glossy like with the OB one, My LOTR map is printed on plain paper and actually looks like it could really have been made in Middle Earth, old simple paper and a mere black print but nothing more.
