So whats the deal with lefthand reloading all the guns in F4

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 2:27 am

Except that right sided bolt actions are much more common than left sided bolt actions. Does the game take into consideration handedness? Who knows, but if every single hunting rifle is left handed bolt, it doesn't make a lick of sense. Many of the gun stores I go to if you want a left handed gun, you have to order it because they don't even have any in stock.

Regardless, point being that if you are in the wasteland scavenging, the odds are much greater you find right handed bolt action guns than left. It would be nice if the game has both, but we don't know.

Doubtful as I would assume Beth would find having to do two reload animation when one does the job a bit wasteful, again for every gun nerd remarking a little reload detail, 2-3 is just gonna shrug and keep playing.

As your quote says, lefties are not inherently left eye dominant, like righties are mostly right eye dominant, then that goes towards there being a cross dominance. As well as at the start, showing that 35% of righties are left eye dominant, which would support there's a small percentage who are cross dominant, yet the majority are right, right. And your quote would suggest too, that the majority of lefties would be left, left.

Right, so when a right handed hunter picks his rifle, he picks the one with the bolt handle on the left side of the rifle, forcing him to ajust and letting go of his grip on the rifle stock with his left hand. This leaving the rifle either with the barrel in the ground or is forcing him to take all the weight of the rifle with his right arm while reloading with his left? yeah makes sense right  much easier than having a firm grip on the rifle stock with his left arm, while realoding with his right arm like every right handed hunter/soldier would do

Okay, here's the real reason that the PC is reloading left-handed while shooting right-handed: It's more visually interesting. It's nice to actually be able to have players see the animations you've worked on too.

You'r right man :) it is, and frankly fallout 4 looks damn good :D, its just annoying that Bethesda fails to use basic logic sometimes. They even got the bolt action rifle right in Fallout 3 XD but yeah, fallout 4 still looks amazing in many regards :)

And for our next discussion concern,

Super Mutants don't hold Hunting Rifles like that in real life... :wallbash:

This.

I'm right handed, but I shoot lefthanded because my dominant eye is my left eye. For handguns it's not a big deal, but rifle or shotgun I have to shoulder the thing on my left.

Isn't that how your supposed to reload if your right handed, idk I've been told that's how you save time on a reload or if your weapon malfunctions.

OP what are you on about, to reload you NEED to let one hand off of the weapon to reload... and is this seriously a thing to bring up? Have the forums honestly gone this low?

Have to say this sometimes bugs me. Like when games stick the bow in the right hand (assassins creed). However for this I'm no too concerned. Especially with customisation.

Far cry 2 was like that too. It always bothered me but it's just so that you can see the reload animation. I personally would like the firearms manipulation to be correct, but it's a game that they worked hard on and they want you to see the pretty stuff they made.

Yet it was correct in FO3 and FONV. If something like this was on their list of "to do" things for FO4, then uhh.. yeah.

Yes, you generally reload with your dominant hand, and for bolt action, it is a more natural feel to keep the weapon extended, and keep your aim, with your off hand while you chamber a round with your dominant hand. I dunno, watch like every single war movie in existence especially those which have a sniper in it and you will see. Or load up FO3 and NV. As far as artistic license goes, it is nice when they get things right, and can do that and still be fancy with your animations.

True, it might also be an way to nerf bolt action rifles to reduce rate of fire. with the new moding system they will make good early game sniper rifles.

Still it looks weird and is unpractical, and you get an lots of comments about the bolt action rifles as they are common everywhere.

few complains about the chainsaw grip on heavy weapons who is also unrealistic but look cool :)

AH, no. You DO NOT generally reload with a dominant hand. As for the sniper rifles and long rifles I do agree that you would reload with your dominant hand as it is much easier to keep the weapon shouldered and on target. But this is not some realistic shooter so who cares anyway, if they want bolts on the left side and want all weapons to be cocked and loaded using the left hand they can do that, because its their game and it is not some sim. They dont need to get things "right" because everything in their world and in their game is correct.

How people in this thread think you reload all weapons using your dominant hand is beyond me. Yes, you do with some but generally you reload and [censored] a weapon with your non-dominant hand

The bolt is on the left side of the gun? That's a little silly. That means the casing would eject on to the person using it instead of away from the person. Hence why every bolt action rifle in history ( or most of them anyway, I can't think of any examples but I'm sure they exist somewhere) has the bolt on the right side.

The only pet peeve I have is the bolt on the left side and it being used by a righty. But, the magazines being on the left side are all well and good since the guy is a righty.

I have never seen it before, tbh. Simply I guess because it doesn′t make any sense whatsoever.

When reloading you don′t want to hold the weapon by that point only. It gets heavy fast plus it′s very awkward to reload that way, not to mention it′s difficult to do (fast) for a right-hander. If a gun is made for right-handers it has to have the bolt on the right side and if it′s an automatic the empty shells/cases are thrown out on the right side. Can you imagine the burns you′d get if you fired an automatic rifle and all the cases fell on your left arm? :P

I can understand if the character is right-hand and the gun is made for left-handers, then it makes sense. I just think it′s way too weird if all the weapons in Boston were made for left-handers  Btw, not sure what people mean by magazine on either side. Typically a mag sits right below the weapon..

Sorry for being too "real" about this, but it sounds strange if Beth went that way with the F4 weapons.

both the assult rifle and pipe pistol/rifle feeds from a mag attached to the left side of the gun.

Really?

I know of a real-life automatic rifle that has it like that, a Russian gun I think. Did they incorporate that gun into Fallout 4 or is it a new gun altogether?
