The color of dot tells you the relative size of the dungeon. Brighter is larger: so the orange dungeons are the largest.

The thing is, though, many dungeons are hidden on the map. Its only unlock if A, ya walk in the wilderness and stumble upon it (which will take nearly forever); B, ya do a quest that would mark a Dungeon on ya map; or C, ya found a Map Location in a loot that would mark it on ya Map.

IIRC, there is a utility program that will reveal all locations on the map - Check the UESPWiki.

I really hate to disagree with you, but I've found that the color/brightness of dungeons has more to do with their type/name rather than their size, as follows:

Darker Red: Cemeteries/Crypts/Graveyards (all very small)
Lighter Red: Ruins (all sizes...i.e. 2 to 4 modules)
Dull Orange: Castles/Towers/Strongholds/Guards (all sizes)
Bright Orange: Everything else (all sizes)

Other than the MQ dungeons their are none larger than 4 modules. The only way to find their true size (except for graveyards) is to play like Riki-Ticki-Tavi, run and go see.

Using the Ctrl+F1 cheat would bring up all the map locations.

You may be right; that's certainly how they're categorized in DF Cartographer (graveyards/ruins/keeps/labyrinths), so I wouldn't be surprised. Towns, temples, homes, however, are all colored by size. Perhaps dungeons are different.

You know, sometimes things come up that we always thought were one way, only to turn out otherwise. Like the meeting with Lady Brisienna: we always thought blowing her off was an auto-fail for the MQ. Turns out you just lose rep with the Emperor

And even if you meet her, you'll later hear rumors of Lady Brisienna leaving the tavern she was in, muttering about the traitors to the Empire. :P

Damn the nobles, damn the Emperor who calls me "his ally and friend" just to get me to do his dirty work. ;)
