Whats the next best weapon to the Duskfang?

Post » Sat Sep 11, 2010 8:30 pm

I decided to give Oblivion one last playthrough before Skyrim comes out. I was missing one achivement and decided to do Shivering Isles first, I thought the Duskfang leveled with you. Much to my horror it dosent level with you. :banghead: So my question is whats the next best weapon to the Duskfang and what level do I need to be to get the weapon max level?

Umbra is the best sword in the game, and I'm not to sure about the max level, but 20+ should do.

Umbra. Umbra has no levelling system, and has a base damage of 28.

It is also weightless. No worries about level, go get it in the link provided and you have yourself the best one-handed sword available.

Duskfang does level with you? Umbra has the strongest base attack, I believe Goldbrand is the strongest ((Non--player enchanted)) weapon.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Shivering:Shadowrend is by far the best sword in the game. Umbra is OK but is vastly overrated and as a really crap enchantment.

I always preferred Goldbrand to Umbra. I liked the fire enchantment.

Umbra has the highest base damage, but it's enchantment is harmless. Because of that many other weapons have a higher damage output.

Shadowerend is certainly very powerful. It has base damage that rivals Umbra and a powerful enchantment that stacks with itself.

If I had to use weaponry already in game, I would consider Hatreds Soul arrows nocked to the Level 19+ Hatreds Soul bow. Rate of fire is slow, charges are few, but the range and damage is top of the line. There are plenty of bow/arrow combos that put the base damage of weapons like Umbra to shame.

Fortunately, we are not restricted to pre-enchanted junk, so I like a self-enchanted daedric bow with daedric arrows. Why send an elf where an arrow can go? :foodndrink:

Personally, I love Umbra's enchantment. I can always recharge all of my items without ever having to try, with the help of Azura's Star

I do realize I seemed a bit extreme with the "Best sword in the game" but its availibilty, 0 weight, and high base damage (If you can kill Umbra :D) make somewhat accessible to lower level characters. (Not including the full ebony suit) The only problem is killing Umbra... Psh, what can she do? Anyone could take her on.... Totally...

Thank you guys for the info, I went ahead and got the Umbra and I am level 32 now. I wish I would have know that the Duskfang didn't level with you, its my favorite sword.

Duskfand/Dawnfang is a pretty beast sword :) especially when you use it all the time, and it becomes EPIC SUPER AWSOME BEAST SWORD OF DEATH after you've killed so many people... I myself am going to get it in at least three days, but my guy is level 32, so he's all set for super pimpdaddy weapons hehe

I screwed up because I wanted to finish my Oblivion achivements, I had 1220 points for the last 4 years. I figured sense Skyrim is coming out that I would give Oblivion one last play through. And sense I thought the Duskfang leveled with you I went for it right away. :brokencomputer: Because I wanted to finish my achivements lol. Oh well live and learn lol.

Yeah I have to agree with you there Duskfang/Dawnfang is a really good sword especially at lower levels in the game, looks kinda menacing too....But like was said earlier a custom enchantment can perhaps be your best bet. Some of the examples listed on the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Oblivion might be helpful. Plus, the higher your Blade skill the more dmg you will dish out.

Cheers

Pretty base damage weapons are nice, but not as nice as a good Sword , Bow or Axe with a home made enchantment of multiple damage types and soul trap. I like my Glass double headed axe with shock / frost / base health Damage with ST. Can look upon a stand up knock down fight with all but a Valkynaz with that with confidence.

You might as well look for a 'Longsword of the Dynamo' in random loot. There are very few enemies that aren't effected by shock damage, plus the dynamo adds soul trap to keep it charged. You can get a glass one that's pretty good around lvl 16 or 17.

This is a great idea, but just a teensy bit off in the detail. Dynamo simply adds 15 points of shock damage.

There are random loot enchanted weapons in the SI however, such as 'of Soul Voltage' that combine 15 points of shock damage with 5 seconds of soul trap and are available at level 11.
