I'm not so sure about that in Skyrim.

If you've seen the picture (which I can't link for obvious reasons) the arrows/quiver are also very ethereal looking. They are the same clear blue color as the bow.

You may have finite arrows this time, but more damage from it or some trade off. (set number when summoned)

OOOH I have an idea! :D
Maybe every time you use an arrow, a little bit of your magicka goes down?

OP, have you seen the damn screenshot? A dude in rugged hedge wizard robes is about to shoot a bear in the face with a ghost bow. What's not to love? That screenshot made me decide to invest some perks in Conjuration, whereas before I was planning on ignoring it entirely.

If you're the type of character that uses bows, it's utterly useless. You'll already have a bow on you at all times.

However, if you're the type of character who doesn't typically use bows but find yourself in a situation where a bow would be handy, the bound bow spell becomes useful.

Same here. I wasn't going to pick Conjuration on my Dunmer Nightblade before, but I sure am now! Looks way too cool to pass up, thou I'll be using a bound blade instead. Maybe even dual wield 2 bound shortswords, that's be sick!

Still think it looks more like an alteration spell than a conjuration one...but whatever. It looks pretty cool, and I'll get around to using conjuration for sure.

Costs no money once you've learned it, doesn't break, likely to be much more powerful than the bow you've got, has no weight, advantageous with those with lots of magicka but low destruction level, possibly gives unlimited arrows, good if you don't have a bow etc.

I always found the time limit a little daunting so I never bothered.

But I think I'll be using my Dunmer all-arounder (who uses blades, bows and some destruction and illusion) but I may actually put a little more into Conjuration this time. Looks pretty cool. Hopefully bows will be useful this game lol.

It's nifty when you can make your murder weapon disappear after a while.

Btw, do you think the damage you make with a bound weapon is still derived from your blade/archery skill? This is how it worked in OB if I'm not mistaken. I think it would be nice if it was decided by your conjuration skill instead, that would make more sense if you're playing a mage (though it might perhaps be a little overpowered). I guess perks in conjuration is at least something.

I doubt that it'll give you infinite arrows. It would kind of defeat the purpose of Bethesda making bows more powerful but arrows more scarce. Infinite arrows might screw with the new arrow economy too much.

I'm going to have a blast roleplaying my Shadowmage assassin with bound bow/dagger. Conjuration never looked cool enough before to take as a major, but the pic has inspired me to play in that style my first run through! :celebration:

Whats the point of Bound bow?
if you have a real bow, or use magic.

It probably deals more damage than your regular bow. Was the case in MW and OB. Plus free arrows?

It most certainly wasn't the case in Oblivion.

Bound bow: damage value of 15
Bound elven, glass or Daedric bow had base damage values of 18, 18 and 21.

So at least 3 types of bows had a higher base damage and you could either add a custom spelleffect or get a preenchanted bow which tipped the scale even more in favour of non conjured bows.

No sneak bonus for fireball damage. A magical assassin, with conjuration, sneak and archery perks would be deadly, and only need to carry arrows and the clothes they are standingcrouching in.

The goodness of bound weapons depends largely on how long they last. In Morrowind they were great--lasting longer (60 seconds?) at fairly low mana cost and giving a bonus to the relevant weapon skill. In Oblivion I really didn't use them. I think the Bound Bow spell only lasted about 15 seconds, really nothing if your opponent is dodging in and out of cover. I also thought that their mana cost and required conjuration skill was too high.

In Morrowind they were nice when you ran out of hammers as each time you summoned you got a bow in perfect condition. Of course, they lacked enchants and cost mana. In Oblivion they could be used as backup in case you got disarmed, but weren't implemented in a way that encouraged me to use them more often.

There is bound spell, axe IIRC, with a duration of 300 seconds. Definitely worth it.

Thanks for the tip! I'll keep it in mind if I start another character. :)

Edit: Hmm.... It may be possible to create longer duration spells at an alter, but UESP's spell list shows all the purchasable bound weapon effects at 15 seconds. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Spells

Its good for melee characters who don't want to equip or waste the weight of a real bow. In rare cases where a ranged weapon is required, like the welkyn stones high out of reach in oblivion.
