The game leave me with a feeling of "wow, THAT WAS AWESOME" everytime I do something or complete something.

Other: an interesting world to explore with a unique sense of culture. Morrowind nailed it, Oblivion failed it.

This is the most important factor for me too.

Don't require installation of the Steam Client or internet connection to authenticate.

Just sell me a CD with a unique product serial key.

If other guys want to buy it on Steam, great, sell it that way too. But don't force me to buy it that way please.

ADDIT: and so far ~55 to 70% of the respondents to three different surveys (two polls on here, and the survey monkey one linked in my signature) agree on this point: Make Steam optional.

You know when you first played Oblivion, did the prison/sewers bit, and entered Cyrodiil. My feeling was, wow this world is mine to explore, don't know what the hell to do next and I don't care, think I'll just watch the sun setting for a while before going off and killing things. Give us that feeling a dozen or so times, and all the rest is just icing on the cake.,

i did the survey monkey one of them has two answers that are essentially the same. both are saying that you will by skyrim from steam regardless. i would suggest taking one of them out because what is happening is that you are splitting the neutral or positive votes in half thus skewing the poll. it should be a straight up or down "i will buy if this has steam" or "i wont buy if this has steam"

according to all the polls only a tiny minority of people say they wont buy it because of steam everyone else is either ambivalent or pro-steam. thats sort like giving the waitress a tip...........most people would love to keep the extra money for themselves but its so ingrained now that its assumed when you go out to eat that you are going to leave a tip so people dont really think about it (unless the service really svcks or the waitress is smoking hot)

Hi Squeekers,

Response one differs from response two, in that 1 involves no statement of preference to have non-Steam options.

I will buy Skyrim whether it requires Steam or not. 45.8% 27

I would prefer if there are non-Steam options for authenticating and playing Skyrim (e.g., gamesas online store with a unique product CD key). But I will probably buy it if it requires Steam anyway. 22.0% 13

I will not buy Skyrim if it requires installation of the Steam Client and internet connection for Steam authentication. 32.2% 19

Added together, Responses 1 and 2 project roughly what proportion of prospective buyers will buy it = ~ 68%
whereas response three is how many will not buy it ~32%

By adding responses two and three together we get a projection of how many prospective buyers would prefer to hae non Steam options ~54% at this stage.

A vibrant game world.

+1

A close second; the score has to be right (and I can already tell it's going to be epic).

But exploring the game world for thousands and thousands of hours - Key factor.

I voted other.

I would really like to see, more than anything else, proper locational damage.

I.e.,

A hit to the head is nearly always an instantaneous kill (can be negated with armour or creatures with a naturally thick skull like Mammoths)
A hit to the arms reduces the power of weapon swings/how far the bow can be drawn (shorter range)/power of spells
A hit to the torso reduces endurance/stamina
A hit to the legs reduces speed and maybe causes a limp until you're cured.

etc.

I think combat with melee weapons of all kind needs some attention and should be more interactive. It's not only hit a mouse button and always have the same moves. This might be difficult to implement but worth trying.

Skyrim will be different from Oblivion, that's for sure. But it won't be in gothic-style. Therefor you have games like Dragon Age. Besides that, it would not fit. TES V will take place in Skyrim and has a nordic/scandinavian style. Like Bloodmoon, just bigger. Thinking of a gothic-style Skyrim makes me shiver.

But since I believe that TES V will not be the last Elder Scrolls game I guess there is a good chance to see this later. Maybe if another part of TES will play in High Rock or more specific in Orsinium this is surely an option.

I definitely want a more user friendly construction set.
With easier methods of importing my own models.
The construction set is important to me so I can fix and/or change the vanilla version which will have the usual limited items that are reused over and over again during the game.
I still enjoy modding Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout, but fear the future of modding as it doesn't make money for Bethesda and therefore is of small importance to them.

This would have been on my top 3 things I want in Skyrim. Also, head shots should make their vision blurry, like in Fo3, it was really well made in Fo3 :)

This, but I didn't vote other, I voted giant mushrooms. It was great to travel around in Morrowind, never really knowing what will come up. Same with reading books, learning new things etc. Oblivion had parts of that feeling, but it became quite predictable after a while. It started to feel as if there was nothing new and quirky to do, it would all just follow the same pattern.
Making interesting, fancy terrain, creating interesting lore, emphasizing on what makes Skyrim so different from any other thing we know in as many ways as possible, keeps the game fresh and makes sandbox-games fun. Here's to hoping Skyrim will be like that (and that mushrooms will not be forgotten).

For the love of Pete better spells. I got soo sick and tired of the standard fire ball effect on spells in previous installments. I think Xilver's Midas magic spells should be the standard to go for in the spell craft for TES V.

1. Spells
2. Better AI (smarter rather than all knowing esp)
3. Better and more fluid/custom animations i.e. Stances, fighting animations armed and unarmed, etc.
4. More weapons (via morrowind and more)
5. Leveling just needs to go out the window IMO. The creatures are there or they aren't... Period. I like this because you sort of have to "earn" your way into certain areas and dungeons. Remember the old days of RPGs where if you ran off to the furthest area or dungeon you'd just get your ass handed to you? Yeah I like that type of system where I have to tailor myself to the world and not the other way around.
6. Speaking of monsters and the like, be creative when doing certain monsters. i.e. Certain creatures shouldn't have to be a, "just hack at it for a while and it'll go down... eventually." Make certain fights a puzzle where the player has to think in order to defeat the would be monster.
7. Better hair and faces from start (though I guess this will come in with the first series of mods when they get here). I know we're not going for anime, but I like to go for that Tolkien Lord of the Rings elf look.

Better Taverns, with dancing girls, bar fights, and mini games gambling, darts/knife throw and 5 finger fillet.
With a community board for each town where the city guards post bounties you can track down.

To work well without bugs or glitches.
Really disappointed with F4NV. Way too buggy, feels like I paid top dollar to beta test. Sometimes it's downright infuriating.

Gory combat. It doesn't have to be over the top, but when I bash someone in the face with a warhammer, I want to see a broken and bloody nose. If I hit him hard enough, I want to see that face caved in.

Also, tattooing and scarring. Persistent scarring to be specific. My character should be a scarred mess once the game is completed (magic should be able to offset it, if one chooses - I wouldn't).
