Whats with the appeal of Power Armor?

I'd love to have Midwest BoS armor in Fallout 4...

The armor is iconic and a staple in the series. In the original Fallout cover art it displayed the T-51b helmet, and in the intro they show the last President wearing the T-51b helmet on the tv. It also shows two soldiers in power armor executing a Canadian. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geLiEiAiQJA

I personally loved the NCR Veteran Armor... I wish they had a power armor variant. But the appeal of Power Armor is being a bad mofo in a death machine.

Also, story wise... it's lighter to wear the armor, than to carry it. The armor is hydraulic power and practically moves for you. Hince "Just relax your muscles" for power armor training. If it's shut down, makes movement almost impossible.

I dig this idea. Could one- even if chances are low- in the FO universe ride out the blast wave of a bomb? So long as the PA stays on, they have the potential to look like US soldiers, to anyone emerging.

I don't know how good the power armor was at insulating the wearer from heat, but considering that pulse gun from New Vegas, the circuitry would probably get fried in the bomb's EMP, rending it heavy and useless.

It might survive the blast, but not in a functional capacity.

I don't mean that it would happen in any reliable way, and perhaps i should clarify. I was thinking towards the outer perimeter of the blast radius, most likely behind a regular wall of some type. Definitely not out into the open, walking towards the flash, not in a bunker or vault. Could there be a goldilocks zone for surviving "outside" in PA?

I guess to work, there would need to be a tesla armor-like prewar version. I have to wonder why building a Faraday cage into PA was never a consideration, particularly if nuclear war might be a concern. Or a dead mans switch to temporarily open the power supply circuit, so emp isn't as much an issue.

The EMP would still fry the circuitry, unless it was properly shielded (and given the pulse gun in New Vegas, it's safe to say it isn't). The Starfish Prime test in 1962 caused electrical damage in Hawaii, which was nearly 900 miles away from the point of detonation. The EMP has a much wider radius than the bombs themselves.

Then again, we still find functioning lights and computers in DC, so obviously some artistic license is in play.

I can't stand power armor. I think it looks ridiculous. One of my Fallout 3 characters insisted on wearing it. I eventually had to end that game early because I couldn't bear to look at it any longer.

It makes you feel like a juggernaut. It's good if you got companions and you want to roll over a raider camp, quickly stomping them into the dirt with a hail of bullets and explosives.

From what we've seen, the armor itself may be able to weather EMP and electrical attacks and keep functioning. The wearer, however, definitely gets zapped.

I really hope they make it to where power armor is rare, powerful and makes you feel like a literal walking tank. A cool way to do that would be to have maybe five suits in the entire game, but with them being upgradable. So, you find a suit. Great! It's crap. Fix it! You've now fixed it. It works! I am DEATH incarnate! Wait... what's hurting me? Oh [censored]! It's a BFG! Dammit. Wait... is that a blueprint for upgrading my armor? Hell yeah! Bring it, [censored]es!

This! PA has to get back to the levels of Fallout (1). 1 possibly 2 sets in the game world that you have to jump through many hoops to get. But it is totally worth it as there is no better armour (we need DT and DR set properly for it as well).
