Whats with the Cartoony facial features?

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 5:47 pm

Well, not everyone wants to see the brown and grey version of Brink, I actually like the idea of hyperrealism. Borderlands helped make itself look different from all the other FPSes because it was more vibrate and colourful. But thats just my thoughts.

I dig the vibrance I just don't like the faces. If you changed the faces it wouldn't just look like every other FPS.

Why is everyone talking Art Style now, I am only talking about the faces, I like everything else.

Blaven was talking about Boarderlands art style. . .Playstation magazine showed some screenshots back in the day of what boarderlands looked like before they went to the cell shading. It looked awful. . .

You guys trip me out! I said, "Here's a glimpse of the future. . ." I never indicated how far in the future I was just trying to highlight the sarcasm about how we mindlessly keep playing these tired franchises. I mean I prestiged in black ops 12 times before I finally realized I did not like the game. Sad? I think so. . .

Would you like some of my KOOL-AID?

Skinner's Box my friend. That's how you did it.

I personally think it looked fine, the Cell-Shading looks a bit over done, IMO of course.

The game would still look bland with normal faces.

And Borderlands art style is what makes it unique.

Go play another game if you want "real" faces.

So if Modern Warfare 12 ever came out, it would be the year 2020.

And it will be built on same engine as cod4.

This game looks awesome but I was watching a trailer for it and noticed everybody looks like they came from a Pixar Film...

i hate this  , i'm not intending to flame this guy or his beliefs but i really do hate it when people decide that a game has to look ultra real and gray like CoD or MoH, this game is full of color and imagination, there fore the characters have to relate to that and stand out in this vibrant world known as The Ark, if you don't like the graphics that's fine but just look at Borderlands and TF2 and how much their players love those games. i suggest despite looks you should at least try it, couldn't hurt you more then when you played CoD: Bad Ops.

as far as just having "real faces" , heavies will look like messed up bobble heads.

Especially TF2, which was described somewhere as having great resemblance to The Incredibles' art style.

I would like to say that not only are the character models and skins amazing, but thank goodness for the end of military based FPS. I mean seriously are we going to just keep playing CoD and BF? Here is a glimpse of the future. . .

"Hey bro Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 12 comes out next Tuesday. You gonna buy it?"

"Nah man I sticking with BATTLEFIELD 14."

I will admit that a buddy of mine said that the aesthetic elements of the game is a turn off to him, even though he is very impressed with the SMART system and whatnot, but for me this game was love at first sight. Cheers!

Lol you made me laugh. How did Battlefield end up in-front of CoD anyways? Battlefield 3 is coming out this year, and Call of Duty's 8th game is also coming out this year ;D. I can imagine that in the future, playing real life humans, like all those parody videos on youtube. Bwahaha.

CoD took a big hit of boycotts after CoD8 Bad Ops where your in a war with yourself you get all the same weapons and same looking maps of the last 4 games but this time...your crazy...Activision Game Dev: "wait wasn't that the last Bad Ops? eh, i don't care let's just pop out another one they'll buy it anyways."

so Battle Field Bad Game was able to catch up. i like my puns those who don't CAN EAT IT! :P *BLAM* :lmao:

ever noticed the 2 lead FPS games have Bad in the name? :homestar:

The faces are kind of weird, but since I'm going to be wearing masks it won't bother me. And it's not really turning me off the game, just a bit weird. The art style is awesome.

Also, have you seen the face mapping in Black Ops? Creepy up close.

after playing Saints Row 2 i know that looks aren't everything and weird is usually a good thing, my guy is Aussy in a all grey silk suit looking good and talking bad i love it. my cars are outstanding in most cases, i've got 1.6 mil so i've been trying to spend it buying super nice rides and fully customizing them then driving them into a lake or crashing them into other people but still i do it with style.

I think it looks cool. Like a more realistic version of Team Fortress and a more cell shaded Call of Duty.

The jaunty, exaggerated appearance of the characters was one of the visual hooks that got me interested instantly tbh. Made me think "ooh, that's new".

There are already enough 'realistic' FPS games out there. I'm happy that BRINK has it's own style.

I adore Brink's art style. I think it is less unrealistic and more serious-looking than Team Fortress 2 (which I've been loving for the past few years, despite CoD/BF games) and would be a nice change.

Anyway, so I do love the art style but the long faces are really, really long... I suppose I could get used to it...

the fact that why I love this type of art style is that the faces mite look more "cartoony" ,but with this art style the facial and body expressions are much more realistic and you can see it far more better where as games like CoD I sometimes notice that there lips don't match there voices or there body movement is sometimes weird, I'm not saying it happens all the time but it does happen in some cut scenes (but I did only borrow the game for a few days from a friend because i seriously don't like CoD, its just too copy pasted)

I know how I said that I am not that big of a fan of the looong faces. This element is something that is easily over looked. I could care less about graphics and art design. What really brings me to a game is STORY and GAMEPLAY. I mean if I use Minecraft as an example, in some people eyes it has terrible graphics, but I like them. It kind of brings back the feel of N64 and the NES.

The gameplay of that IMO, is very addicting and make you comes back for more. But something as small as faces being long, would have no effect on my opinion or whether i will buy this game or not. I am getting this game nuff said. :trophy:

I DIDNT SAY I WANT GRAY! I Said I love the vibrant colors I JUST DONT LIKE THE FACE! its the Face, the Face is the only thing I dont like THE FACE sounds like I am not the only one either, why don't you flame them to?! I never said anything about "ULTRA" realism, just some realism. And I hate COD FYI. I just like real looking people, that doesn't automatically mean I want a COD clone, I loved how real Starkiller looked in Force Unleashed 2 Oh no that must mean I think it is a COD copy. Oh and did you see how real people will look in L.A. Noire, must be a COD clone. Think before you speak, instead of assuming you know me. The COD series is the worst con ever, people buy the same game over and over again every year for what? A new gun? Did I state anywhere that I would not buy this amazing game? No Did I state anywhere that I love COD and want a COD clone? NO! I hate it when people post without reading the other posts, which you clearly did.

To sum it up Call of Fads: Fad Ops is a horrible game and I will be buying Brink as a previous poster said, the long faces are easy to overcome...

NOTE: I don't mean to flame you but it really offends me when people assume I am a COD fan...

Edit again: I loved TF2, The gameplay was so fun.

Edit again again: Just watched in game footage here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3m2b-j1Yu8M and it doesn't look as bad in game as it does in the trailer I saw.

By far too realistic for a Pixar movie.

It would look odd, really.

Not only the faces are long, the bodies are as well. It's a complete pack, if you change one element, it makes the whole thing look wrong.
