Whats with the end of New Vegas?

Post » Sun May 03, 2009 2:59 am

I guess 'trolls' is technically incorrect. I refer to the self-elected moderators, the pedantic experts, the snide commentators, the forum bullies, etc. etc. All those whose actions are motivated by a need to harass, humiliate, mock and instigate. The buttheads, in other words, who really need to gain some perspective and grow up.
I came to this forum under the impression it was a place to relax and have fun talking about games we enjoy. To many members here, it seems the forum exists to stop others from talking about games they enjoy.
It's just irritating and childish, and we are way, way off topic. My apologies.

We elitists can be a little excessive, sure, but I still don't think that many people "harass, humiliate, mock and instigate" in this thread.
I consider myself and elitist so I admit I can be a little excessive from time to time but it's not to shut people down, it's to inform them of when they are wrong about something in lore or canon or it's to explain why something was designed the way it was.

I still think it could have been better with a open ending but thats just me.

Well, there is always Fo3+Broken Steel.

When you've been here since before the game was released and everyday there is a new thread asking about this it gets annoying. Some of us are here everyday all the time, not just once or twice a week.

And @vera- leave our gabriel alone

Sometimes people are wrong. Refusing to correct someone who is objectively wrong in the name of being nice is foolish.

There are too many endings to make a continuation of play after the Dam viable without it being really, really stupid. I'm glad they aren't going to buckle, how much would it svck if they implemented a Broken Steel style ending. "Erm, all that stuff happens soon, but for now the place hasn't really changed much because everyone is still packing their bags...yeah"

A lot of the topics on this forum are just a matter of opinion, there is no right or wrong. Theres a few people on this forum that have an arrogant way of replying to opinions they dont agree with. I also dont see a problem with letting the game carry on as normal after the end. The people that want to continue will be happy and the people that are against it dont continue. simple

Well I do agree that I am quite wise. :)
I'm unfortunately not all-knowing of Fallout but I have my moments.

And:
Fact>opinion.
Opinion=/= fact.
Opinion<>opinion.

If someone wants to for example have more Enclave in New Vegas then I can say that it isn't possible and explain to him/her that Oil Rig is gone, Navarro is overrun and the remaining Enclave either fled east or were hunted down by BOS and NCR.
Those things are part of the lore which is fact.

I rarely if at all state that my opinion about something is fact.

If someone has an opinion about something and mine differ then I might discuss our opinions about the subject but I rarely if at all say that mine is better than someone else's.

And on the continuation of the main game part.
Why I don't want it is because I don't want to miss out on a bunch of lore and new content just because I hate playing after the credits.
So if they release a tiny DLC for just the purpose to let people continue with no other new content added then I'd be fine with it.
But why I dislike it is that I hate to turn off a game when I feel that something is unfinished.
Like, I complete the epic quest, Legion takes over and now I'm warped back and I go ".... Now what?"
I could go do some more courier jobs or explore or just kill stuff, but what's the point?
The end of the game had come, the climix had been reached, and now I'm back to just walking around.
Sure I could just quit the game after being warped back, but it still gives me a weird feeling of it being incomplete, that I turn off the game while there is still something to do, even if there isn't any.
I feel the same way in every GTA game and all other post-credits gameplay games.
Might not seem important but it is to me.
And if they release a DLC with new quests, new items, new characters and tons of new lore then I want it for those things.
And if the DLC doesn't add every single thing that happens in the ending sliders then I feel that it was rushed and it ruins my "immersion".
And lasty, the story is complete, it has a start and an end, tacking on more quests past the final one is pointless.
It'd be like watching a film, say Dawn Of The Dead 1978, then after a couple of months there is a shortfilm made which shows what happens to the two who escape but since it's only 6 minutes it feels rushed and completely pointless since it didn't really close the movie up like the actual ending did.

So, those are my reasons for not wanting one, none are facts really, just saying that it's a dike move just like forcing a +5 cap was with Dead Money.

I see what your saying Gabriel about not feeling like you accomplished anything if the game just continued on after you beat it.I think what it came down to for me is i played through the story expecting more didn't fully level up and didn't do all the missions i could have ...so maybe in all reality it was my own fault for not getting the full enjoyment out of the game and maybe I rushed through it to fast? But i put maybe 80 Hours into the game just wondering around finding anything and everything or so i thought?

Indeed, thats what "replay value" is all about. To catch the stuff you miss the first time, or second time. Hell I play FO2 liek once a year since like '98 and I still find some new stuff every once in a while.

they give you all this [censored] at the end of the game and you cant use any of it?

What may i ask is the point of this? Why can i not continue to roam the waste land?

1) except for things like the Legate's Helmet and sword and Oliver's outfit, you can get any of that other gear before doing the final mission of the main quest.

2) because games end.

This. And this is where Fallout 3 fails and 1, 2, and NV succeed. Every playthrough is different and have their own surprises. This is why I love Fallout 2, because there is so much in it, and I keep finding something new.

Why Dose Fallout 3 Fail in this aspect of having great Replay Value?

Because it's endings svcked, there was only one playthrough option, there were no choices aside from "daddee happi" or "daddi angwe".

7. Flaming is not allowed.

Insulting individuals or groups of members and name calling are flames. Any remark that is made to insult another member or group of members will be considered a flame and thus you may receive a warning for it.
Calling people a troll or an apologist for instance can both be considered a flame as can calling someone stupid or ADD. Attacking Xbox players, PS3 players or PC players is not allowed and calling them "console kiddies" or in anyway indicating someone is in some way a lesser person because of their choice is considered a flame here.

This thread is not about trolls and we warn for suggesting other members are trolls even if they are. Report them and let the moderators figure it out.

Closed as resolved and now off topic.
