Whats with the Pip-boy glove?

Post » Sat Jun 25, 2011 2:21 pm

Can someone tell me who thought it would be a good idea to put a permanent hobo glove on my hand that completey destroys the look of all the cool armors!!!?
Why is it there?

Luckily you can shoot him for strapping it to your arm

Unfortunately you still won't be able to take it off

No, but he probably did have something to do with FO3, where the whole pip-boy-attached-to-arm-with-hobo-glove started.

Wish they'd get rid of the thing, and instead had a little handheld device for it (kinda like in the first few games.) Absolutly ruins the look of most armors.

VATS never made sense; (and did not exist in Fallout 1 or 2). The only way to make it sensible, is to make it an exclusive feature of wearing power armor.

Then people with pipboys can link it to the armor, and have it work as a targeting computer~ with motor control over the suit.

I can't imagine a game without my Pip-Boy. For Fallout 4 they may redo the UI but I hope we still have our Pip-Boy....it's definitely my friend and I like the idea that when we were in the Vault, we had to have it.

For me the Pipboy in FNV makes no sense. I don't understand why the Doc gave you one, I mean he must have treated other patients. I know we get one because we're the main character, but still it doesn't add up.

That would make VATS more realistic and make sense and I'm all for that, but then people who don't wear power armor will complain.

If you look close at the power armor mesh, it would appear that the artist (and perhaps the team) had intended for the pip to be enclosed by the suit, when worn.
(Its not something that I was ever able get working in my own mods)

The first game described the pipboy as a wrist computer, but depicted it in the game as a PDA (something akin to this http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj125/Gizmojunk/pip_boy_2000_renders_by_equilerex1.jpg). Van Buren had it on the arm of the 3d character models; FO3 had it the same, and they made it the inventory ~this meant that it had to be worn throughout the game regardless of costume.

That would make VATS more realistic and make sense and I'm all for that, but then people who don't wear power armor will complain.

Yeah. :(
It would also happen if there was a jet-pack in the the ranger armor ~"but why cant I fly in the remnant suit too :(".

I agree with the OP, and that is why i use the Readius mod. http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/images/37250-2-1289940399.jpg to make it less setting violating :hehe:

It allows wearing full outfits, and also saved the Lone Wanderer from dying from exposure to space in MZ :P

Doesnt anyone know it can be made to go bye bye in NV? Im not gonna post it here cause I dont want the devs to remove the glitch its too awesome. All i know is im on console and I can wear regular outfits that look [censored]in minus the stupid glove. XD By witch I mean the outfits are complete, so if the left arm has a glove it will stay that way all that stays the same is the pipboy wrist apparatus the glove goes bye and i get to wear clothes normally.

I like having the pip boy on your wrist, it feels more Falloutoutish (yes that's a word) than lugging that big ass thing we had in the first two games around.

uhm wouldnt that mean that the pip-boy is the opposite of Falloutoutish since it was not in the first 2 games? I personally wish the devs would adopt something similar to the readius. Small, cool, possible, and more importantly doesnt ruin your style...:ahhh:

Believe it or not (and it is hard to believe...), the Fallout 1 manual describes the pipboy as a wrist mounted computer (page 60 iirc).

Well there was no glove in Van Buren...

But its plain to see that Bethesda did a lot of thinking on it for FO3.

The problem that I have with the pipboy in FO3/NV is that unlike all of the other CRT screens in the game... the Pipboy's can't really be CRT ya know?
(Even the thinnest CRT would be half way into your forearm on a wrist mounted device like their version of the pip.)

The 'hobo' glove isn't just cosmetic, IIRC, the glove functions as a rotatable dial for the screens. I can't recall which page of the art book it's on, but I can go in my room and check which page it's on if I find the comment.
