Whats with the skimpy armor #2

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:15 pm

Look at all the examples of armor so far, what do you see?

I see armor thats extremely skimpy and that's not covering much. The armor on Dovahkiin doesn't even cover his back, and the one on the khajiit only covers one of his arms and just a small section of his chest. Last time I checked armor is worn for protection, not just looks. Skyrim is also a cold place to live so why is everyone running around like there going to go swimming at the local beach on a hot summer day? I actually HATE the look of the armor. I'm a history buff and the two things that I can't stand is armor that's either over the top, with random stuff jutting out of it, or armor thats basically a frying pan on a string. I hope they have more realistic armor in addition to this stuff. I'll still like the game if the armor looks like this, but I'm going to have a hard time ignoring the fact that swords are being deflected off my body by one cooking pot and a whole lot of air.

Now i know what your thinking, "boy this guy is such a wimp", but heck i'm not dumb enough to go outside without even wearing armor that fully protects me from the cold. I could get a cough DAMNIT, so that means no more killin' dragons for me. I vow to wear warm armor when its a bit chilly, or even wear a T-shirt DAMNIT!

Pic 1 - that's a goblin. You want him to have platemail?
Pic 2 - that's a barbarian. Skimpy armour is their thing. I'm sure that this one picture doesn't mean that there is zero fur armour that gives decent coverage.
Pic 3 - that's undead. I really don't think keeping his armour in pristine condition or even on his body is his main concern or even within his motor faculties.
Pic 4 - see pic 2.

As I said before, Beth wants to show off there new character models, they could not do that if the pc was covered in all the pics/trailer.

Pic 1: Low quality leather shirt and 1 pauldron. The shirt might not even be armour.
Pic 2: 1 pauldron and no other chest armour due to personal preference.
Pic 3: Heavily degraded chainmail.
Pic 4: Nothing bad, many armours don't have sleeves. Can be remedied by wearing pauldrons.

Pic 1: Yes, why would I want to see a half-naked goblin? :P Ugh, now I have nasty pictures in my brain :banghead:
Pic 2: That's right: Barbarians don't use much armor. Get over it.
Pic 3: NOOOOO!!! More nasty pictues in my head :banghead:
Pic 4: Just another view of our beloved Barbarian Conan :D Wait a minute... my brother lied! That's not Conan!

Hmm... As if you had nothing better to argue about... ;>

Nah, the armours are fine and pretty as they are; their only drawback is that contained inside are some ruggedly awful hairy apes - at least some of whom are dead and the rest green. If the devs are going to keep on showing off skimpy attire in their teaser screenshots, they might at least show enough basic decency to put some presentable ladies in it. If there's a better marketing tool, I've yet to see it.

Not being condescending by plastering ridiculously endowed women on your ad campaign usually appeals to me.

I'm sure there's lots of non skimpy armor in the game.

This made it to a second thread even though everyone gave plenty of real world examples of armor that are just as "skimpy" or even more so.

What confuses me the most is that I'm almost certain that the OP wasn't part of the original discussion. I agree with him, but the fact that this resurfaced is just confusing.

Pic 1 - No, but some clothing to keep him from staying alive would be nice. (layers animal skins would fit well in my opinion)
Pic 2 - I would consider him a Nord/Viking, not a barbarian. (barbarians are uncivilized, so I guess he could be considered a barbarian). Either way, he should still atleast have clothes under the armour. Hopefully that feature (ability to wear clothes under armour, and robes over armour like Morrowind) was implemented, and this photo is of a Nord wearing simply armour and no under garments.
Pic 3 - agreed

I think Dhovakiin has no practical excuse not to be wearing a shirt, tbh... Surely the cold is a problem.

Ya gladiators were BA's but they were forced to wear that skimpy armor. I'm sure if they had their way they would have worn more (actually they would probably prefer not to there period actually) Your second is invalid. Just because a game has things that aren't in real life doesn't mean it can't be realistic. Why, because in world were there is magic, magic is realistic. In a world were there are dragons, dragons are realistic. In a world were there are morals you use swords to kill each other, THERE IS GOING TO BE REALISTIC ARMOR!

And in a world where people wear armor that doesn't fully cover every square inch of them, which the trailers have proved some people in Skyrim do, "skimpy" armor is realistic. :meh:

We haven't seen all armour yet.

Also, Dovahkiin we've seen so far is a Nord I guess. Nords resist cold much better and can have "skimpy armor".

Finally, look at this: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JIPY8sBMmHs/TZTvQWrbnZI/AAAAAAAAAgI/f61lHoZj16o/s1600/Skyrim_IceWraiths.jpg

This X10

Listen, is a mage gonna wear heavy plate armor? no. but he's still "fighting", yeah? well, are you saying it's unreal for him to wear only robes?
And yeah, some warrior are actually proud, and prefer to fight almost naked, than to hide inside a damn steel can.

Also, think in real life, of leather coats. most coats are meant to protect you from the cold, so why wear a leather coat in the first place (those that are meant to be worn open, which pretty much only protects your arms and your back). what's the point? IT LOOKS COOL MAYBE!
