Whats you opinion on "cheating" in Skyrim? and Why?

Post » Sun Oct 30, 2016 12:37 am

I personally use exploits, loop holes, "cheating" and all, because it suit my means to play the game as I see fit. Yet I feel such animosity toward a person that openly express their "cheating" inclinations, like I′m killing the fun for them or I accidentally broke their delicates personal universe laws.

We are all cheaters, "cheating" is the smart thing to do. We are mortals, if we can do more with the little time we have, why not do it?. For me people that find "cheating" in Skyrim a disgusting thing to do, you people are just blinding yourselves to the truth.

0% magic cost in any school of magic is "cheating", just because you are able to achieve it by normal enchanting progression, doesn't mean you are not bending the design rules to suit your need. I dare to say infinite magic is not even possible for Gods, let alone for Mortals, but if you happen to make it possible using a few soul gems, well good for you.

Same goes for people that use Mods, you people are not playing the game "the intended way" either, you are bending the rules of the world to play the game as you see fit, therefore you are also part of us cheaters.

NOW the biggest "cheat" of all time in Skyrim in my humble opinion, is not the Restoration Loop, not by far. Is nothing more than Having play the game before, the experience, the knowledge of how the world works, how to maximize your progression and knowing what to do to play as you want. THAT in my opinion, is the biggest cheat of ALL, and nobody can do anything about it, even if they are against "cheating" with all their pure souls :].

So, Whats your opinion on bending the rules to suit your needs? and Why?.

I have only one rule: take only those actions that are appropriate to my character.

I don't think that min/maxing is the point of Skyrim.

I don't know how many times I've had a "oh no, not another dragon fight" moment and then used the kill console command :P

My thoughts? Skyrim doesn't judge you, it doesn't even care if you cheat to get two chillrends for example. So I don't really care. I want to play legit, but if I can choose a straight line over a curve then I will.

Likewise. I personally don't see anything as cheating, it's a single player game, do what you enjoy. What someone does in their own game has zero effect on me.

Using the rules to your advantage is a different thing from breaking the rules.

That said, Skyrim is a single player game and the only person you can cheat is yourself. It's your own personal playground, nobody can tell you how you should or shouldn't use it; there's no "intended way" to play. If you're having fun, you're doing it right.

Very true and very apt.

How often has there been a thread along the lines of 'I used TGM and now everything's too easy. How can I make it difficult again' or 'I used the console to make my character level 200 with every skill maxed and all perks. Why isn't the game presenting a challenge?'

Indeed. Single player game. Who cares? Do what you can live with :)

Personally i enforce MAD; if i get killed, killall console command gets used :P

It is a single player game. I could care less what anyone else does in their home on their pc/console.

There are many mods that fix the games. There has been an unofficial patch since Morrowind, just to name one.

There are many others.

Let me explain something to you. I am visually disabled, and the world openly hates and in the process, ignores us. Whenever a website is made, 9/10 times people will use a light text color on a light background color. I have actually had to stop using Pure Flix because of this, which I didn't want to do. This gets even worse in video games, because again, the visually disabled are openly treated like garbage and ignored. Oblivion's map was difficult to manage and so is Skyrim's with that wretched fog. Now, there is a mod that removes the map fog ON the XB1. So I will GLADLY shatter their rules and expectations of how I should play. I told you, Skyrim doesn't judge you and I like it for this fact. It doesn't act like a little ten year old and lectures me that I am doing something that it considers to be morally wrong, it says instead "It's cool bro, I'm here for you."

Like the others wrote, the only way to play the game wrong, it to play it without fun!

With a single player game, you can't make other feel sad, so whatever improves you joy of playing is good for you!

That leads to the question: Why should it be called cheating? How can someone claim, that he did beat the game?

You do just spend your time having fun!

I can become controversial quite easily, but that is definitely a rule to live by.

It is not, is all about fun, experience and enjoy your stay--> maximizing is My personal choice to accomplish this.

Man I′m definitely gonna become a PC gamer when I grow up, also I think some of the purists are going to write some names in this post xD.

I like the way you express yourself now, you were hesitant before but now you remark "I will", you are giving your first steps into the dark side. Is so beautiful to watch :].

Thank you, Im glad to hear and see that the animosity towards "cheaters" is not that big of a deal as I worst thought.

I agree with you, which is why I find the animosity against "cheaters" in Skyrim so bizarre... I may be crazy, but I find the idea of cheating the machine, the game laws, the developers design way, the Ai... I don't know the right term. But I find cheating that "a worthy challenge" xD.

"How can I make the game difficult again?", I think that is the eternal struggle of any high level character no matter if you cheat or not. Having ALL the perks in Skyrim dont make your character automatically OP, maxing out just Stealth alone makes you OP, the Ai in Skyrim is quite blind even without any perks in stealth.

You have no idea the things I can live with, but tell me. Can you actually kill the bastards in the seconds the game show you′re dead body?, if so, that is beautiful :].

Of course not, but you have to admit that from the moment you use a mod, you are not playing the same game as the rest. You are fixing the game to better fit your idea of a "Not broken game", my point bringing mods to the argument is simply that Mods are in the same level of me using exploits to bring the game, to my idea of a "Not broken game".

Yeah, plenty of time for that, just enough to see them fall dead :hehe:

And the death-cam time can be extended somehow too, probably a game setting that can be changed with console or a simple plugin.

I see, and here I thought you were going to join us in the dark side. Glad to hear you find a solution for your visual problems so you can enjoy the game, can I ask where did you learn about such mod for Xbox one?.

I agree, and I plan on going out of the "intended way" to enjoy the game on my own way. I was just curious to see what people thought and Im glad to see that the worst scenario of a purist Skyrim community is not true, well at least here :].

BTW I now have a real plan of 80% chances of working, of how to eliminate Brynjolf from the game, I going to disintegrate him with the "reanimate corpse spell glitch" I will be able to skip all the Thief guild quest and all without mods :].

Some of the things you PC players can do are so beautiful, that even outshine the fact you don't have a soul ;].

I always break the rules. In fact my entire game setup could be considered a hack mod. My base game mods boost all kinds of player advantage stuff (ex.- base enchanting is 500 points above vanilla). I do that because my base modded game also makes everyone roughly 80% more deadly and 80% harder to kill at Adept level. It's much more entertaining to me to play a higher stakes, more balanced game then it is to try fighting through a legendary level handicap when nothing else in the game scales with it. I made these modifications so that only with 100% smithing, enchanting, and perks in a given skill can you get to be a slight bit overpowered. My adept level is a lot harder than vanilla legendary, master level you will not last long, and legendary level is undoable without god mode.

My games are also interactive RP stories that get told on the fly, as they happen and not decided beforehand. My list of console command "misdemeanors" is a mile long, all in the name of tailoring parts of the game to my story, of course. Even with all that I still don't use god mode, although I have before, and don't care one way or the other if people do or don't. Everybody's game is a unique, tailored entity that lives and breathes because of what they do with it, and I don't really believe that trying to compare one to another is effective at anything except highlighting differences. The word "cheating" in a single player game like this is just tribute to that same kind of differential thinking, and I give it about as much weight as I do those who sling it around like some kind of taboo accusation of something.

NO.

I like hundreds of others are fixing what is broken. Don't make it more than it is.

"I'm a cheater but don't want to be judged, so I'll drag everyone down to my level, and judge everyone who doesn't agree".

1. 0 magicka cost is intended gameplay feature, restoration loop is not

2. Mods aren't cheating if you use mods who actually make the game harder

3. Skyrim is all about fun. Min maxing is included, because believe it or not, some people think it's fun to min max. Don't be a [censored] that selects only the points that attempt to prove your opinion right, there's two side of a coin in every single argument.

I don't judge you for cheating, I don't give a [censored] what you do with your own game as long as you're not directly competing with me, but please don't make me watch this sad crap on my favourite forum.
