Whats your best Sniper rifle?

Post » Sun Jan 10, 2016 6:27 am

I've been waiting for a decent legendary drop, I have all the mods built to convert into a .50 surpressed long barrel one, but so far nothing has grabbed my attention.

Best I have found is one with VATS reduction.

What have you guys come across for Sniper rifles?

I'm using a simple .50 Sniper Rifle that has a legendary 15 extra exploding damage °_°

but it does barely more damage than the usual rifles ^^ still a one-shot-kill on almost everything because of the sneak multiplicators

The best one I've come across is found in a vault. I'd be more specific, but it's a spoiler.

Is this about the sniper rifle or any sniper-class weapons? I'll just answer both...

The best legendary sniper rifle I've found is probably one with Violent mod. +25% damage but more recoil. Think I had Explosive on my first character but I cba to check right now.

But I'm using a suppressed gauss rifle as my personal sniper atm. I did find a two-shot plasma sniper but it has way too much spread so I just swapped it's scope for a reflex sight and use it as a 9-shot combat rifle. It's damage is just ridiculous with the Rifleman perks B)

The Combat Rifle modded for .308 was me superior to the .50 sniper rifle, so much so that .50 ammp, along with 5mm is a regular trade item.

I'm experimenting with the Gauss Rifle now and it seems to hit harder that the .308 Combat Rifle, on the other hand the .308 CR is much more handy in a firefight since it can be used as a semi automatic easier for me and its usually my main travelling weapon.

I've been building up my stock of laser and plasma ammo so at this point I haven't used them much compared to the others.

Gauss is the king. Considering it's suppressable and hits harder than a Fat Man.

All I've got, and all I've ever seen is a maximum capacity hardened pipe rifle which takes about 20 hits to kill a supermutant. I look forward to getting a proper gun when I grow up.

This, fully modded and suppressed it is a beast. It is my primary weapon, though I prefer it semi-auto with a reflex sight personally.

I switch between .308 and .45 though depending on which ammo type I have a surplus of at the time.

Edit: added semi-auto,

I found an Instigating Rifle (x2 when target at full health) which is brilliant for the one shot heavy hits. I had it chambered for .308 until I found another .50 rifle that I took that mod from. I have not put a suppressor on yet as I am enjoying the extra range.

Its been my primary weapon for most of the game, first as a .45 sniper, the a .45 automatic and then as a .308 sniper.

I have a 50%+ damage to Super Mutants Hunting Rifle and I have it at 92 with the .50 receiver. and Sniper goodies. The Recon Long Scope is pretty fine.

While there are certainly more effective sniper rifles in the the game I use a fully upgraded Railway Rifle as my primary sniper weapon. Sure, the Railway Spike takes longer to reach the target but there is nothing like seeing an enemy's head removed with a Railway Spike. Railway Rifle is currently configured as such:

- Standard Receiver

- Long Barrel

- Recoil Compensating Stock

- Long Recon Stock

- No Muzzle

- Currently only does 200 damage because I haven't put points into the related perks

For backup I have a Suppressed .50 Sniper, Suppressed .308 Sniper and a Recoil Compensated Overcharged Laser Sniper Rifle in the event I run out of ammo for the Railway Rifle.

I'm not big on the Overseer's Guardian as a sniper rifle. I've seen videos of the Big Boy unique Fat Man, and the projectiles actually split. This creates some inherent spread and inaccuracy, and while it's not an issue with the Big Boy, sniper rifles are all about accuracy. If I do pick up the Overseer's Guardian, I'll use it as my primary close- to mid-range weapon, and use a modded Hunting Rifle for sniping.

My current fave is my explosive gauss rifle. At max charge, that thing can take out a synth Courser with a sneak attack headshot (2.4X damage). Walking around the Glowing Sea with it, I can wipe out Legendary Glowing Deathclaws and Radroaches with two - three shots each, at most.

This happens on all two-shot weapons. And it's actually a whole lot worse if you play in third person, you can see a huge difference even on distances as small as 2-3 meters. Overseer's Guardian is great for testing this.

Instigating gauss rifle is my sniper rifle, the best part is that amazing lack of bullet spread so its just as awesome in closer range fights.

I would say the only ones that seem like they could be useful are the VATS Enhanced ones. But I haven't used any legendary weapons or armor... They just don't feel all that great to me. Especially since they aren't at all rare drops. I'm playing in normal and I have over 150 legendary kills.. that's over 150 "legendary" items that I've accumulated and I'm not even close to the end of the game. I've simply started selling most of them as they are worth more in trade in value than just keeping them in a box.

I'm simply using a fully upgraded .50 scoped sniper rifle and a short barrel, reflex scoped plasma rifle. So far, it's all I've ever needed. In sneak, I can take down most difficult enemies fairly quickly.. I only really have to worry about something getting the jump on me but that's why I have the plasma rifle.

Used a basic .50 hunting rifle for much of the game. Then tried laser & plasma versions for a few levels (not impressed, and I switched the plasma to a shotgun pistol), before going back to the .50.... Just picked up Overseer's Guardian, so we'll see how that goes. Haven't really found much in the way of great Legendary gun mods.... only two-shot I've found before buying OG, was the plasma gun.

The rest of my legendary guns are things like "Lucky" (when I don't use VATS), Instigating (on a gatling laser, so the first hit is weak), and various +50% damage to limbs/ghouls/bugs things. Most legendary weapons I find are melee.

I keep thinking I should be bothered by this, but I'm either not far enough or compensate without thinking about it. I non-VATS headshot moving targets all the time

Relentless 50 cal fully modded with 5.3x sneak dmg and Rifleman perks makes it a one shot weapon especially for head shots.

Well, the guass rifle is by far the best sniper I've come across since it deals so insanely much damage.

But I've found myself using my modded assualt rifle much like an sniper since it got a good range as well, although, it's not as accurate as a sniper so it make take 2-3 shots instead. With silencer on the range get's bad though so that's ont an option. :)
