e8400 @ 4GHz4GB DDR2 @ 4-4-4HD5870 @ 950/1250Will upgrade before 11/11/11. Not sure what to just yet. After all, PCI-e 3.0 is just around the corner...Not to mention all kinds of CPU shenanigans. So, I'll wait for now.If you check the charts, for games like Fallout 3 (and therefore Oblivion, one might assume) the e8000 family is nearly top of the list, *even now*. No, seriously. Overclock them, and well. There you go. It's not like the engine there can use more than 2 cores, at best. Otherwise, yeah, you'd see some 4/6/8-thread monsters doing better in FO3. Not so.Hence, I'm sticking with socket 775 for the time being.
Dang, you beat me on the GFX Card:
e8400 @ 4GHz - not E0 stepping, it was a PITA to get it Prime95 stable at 4GHz, but it has run for over 2 years now without a hiccup. I lapped it to get the core temps down considering I am pushing the voltage a little higher than I'd like.
8GB DDR2 @ 4-4-4-12 1068MHz (I think, forgot what the bootstrap gave me)
HD5850 - lots of room to overclock though, just don't need to currently but have tested extensively
8800GTS 512 running the Physx side of things (yay for hacks)
Asus Xonar Sound Card
500GB 7200RPM main drive
1KW Antec True Power Quattro
Antec 900 case
50" LG Plasma @ 1080p - a little bit of image retention, but it never stays around even after 8-9 hour gaming sessions with HUDs up the whole time. Lag is minimal . . .
Win7 64bit Ultimate
The only thing I am planning is perhaps crossfiring the 5850 and using my PCI Physx card again. And maybe a SSD, but still don't know about their controller issues - my brother has borked 2 as well, and once they are bad good luck recovering data. I've had hard drives get the click of death and never lost much. Just my two bottlecaps.
