The GPU surely will run it, although it's 3 generations old. If you want to spend a little money, get a GTX 570 or so. By October they should be pretty cheap.

Also, a bit more RAM would help a lot (you'd need to switch to a 64-bit OS, though).

An off the shelf model and probably nowhere near to running 'Skyrim'

Athlon II x2 240 dual core 2.80Ghz
3GB Ram
Win 7 Home edition 64 bit
NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

It's upgradeable though - just not in the mood (yet) to do any upgrades.

Wrong. Geforce 9800GT is DX10.

Yeah, I remembered now that I'm stuck on DX9 because of XP SP3, not my GPU...just before your turbo-response :)

Waste of money if you ask me. The 1155 cpu's are not much faster than your 750.

Clock for clock it's not much faster, but the overclocking capabilities look fantastic. I've heard of people achieving 4.5 GHz with stock volts on a $200 CPU, and that's just insane!

And the Radeon 5850 is still a 'high end' card, so it will probably play Skyrim on max settings...

Haha, we can hope. If it has directX 11 support with tessellation...well, bad things may happen :flamethrower:

hehe, anyway, I plan to upgrade to Windows 7 SP1 64 Bits soon. The final SP1 has just been sent to OEM manufacturers, and it's a matter of weeks that it's out for the public.

I want to test DX10, and also I'm tired of having only 3 gb's of RAM instead of 4.

My PC is held together with rubber bands and paper clips and lots of duct tape. I hate PC's, if it's not the power source or cooling fan that need to be replaced it needs a ram upgrade or new video card constantly. deities help me if it needs any sort of software upgrade takes me hours for the most simplistic things boy am I glad an internal modem in the tower is a thing of the past for me although I now have about 15 or more different wires running in and out of the thing.
A heavy and fragile tower pc is not a winning combination for me hate lugging it into the computer shop I go to. Glad I have video game consoles so much easier.

I refuse to believe that anybody can actually be (and I mean no offense), this inept. I'm almost certain it's all placebo effect from /believing/ that PCs are like this.

Ahh, a public display of e-peen, why not :)

Intel i7 4Ghz, 4GB DDR3, 120GB Vertex 2 solid state HD, Radeon 5970, gaming at 1080p.

I actually built this thing for New Vegas, I thought it would be overkill but it still drops a few frames now and then, thank god Gamebryo is finally buried.

I think go for Sandy Bridge CPU's.Their names start with 2000,like i7 2600.And I'd get i7 2600K with a budget like that.
P8P67 Pro Motherboard
6 Gigs of ram (well,4 would be enough actually)
GTX 570 or 580 (don't really know the ATI equivalents)

I'm not using a sound card,not sure if it's worth 200$...
You are missing the Power Supply and the case though. Those are important. After you decide your components, calculate the power (Thermaltake's site has one) and get a PSU 100-150W above that to make sure it doesn't get loaded.

Case is imprtant as well, because even at stock settings the new GPU's run at high temps and on hot days they cry out LOUD.So a case that keeps the components cool is also essential.

Yeah, I'm giving my GPU and sound card a second thought now...as for the case I was gonna go with the Cooler Master HAF 922M ATX Mid Tower Case and a 650W power supply, but that power calculator looks real handy cause I wasn't sure about the wattage. I think I'll be sticking with 6 GB of RAM though.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions! I'll look into the i7 2600K and the P8P67 Pro Motherboard.

e8400 @ 4GHz4GB DDR2 @ 4-4-4HD5870 @ 950/1250Will upgrade before 11/11/11. Not sure what to just yet. After all, PCI-e 3.0 is just around the corner...Not to mention all kinds of CPU shenanigans. So, I'll wait for now.If you check the charts, for games like Fallout 3 (and therefore Oblivion, one might assume) the e8000 family is nearly top of the list, *even now*. No, seriously. Overclock them, and well. There you go. It's not like the engine there can use more than 2 cores, at best. Otherwise, yeah, you'd see some 4/6/8-thread monsters doing better in FO3. Not so.Hence, I'm sticking with socket 775 for the time being.

Dang, you beat me on the GFX Card:

e8400 @ 4GHz - not E0 stepping, it was a PITA to get it Prime95 stable at 4GHz, but it has run for over 2 years now without a hiccup. I lapped it to get the core temps down considering I am pushing the voltage a little higher than I'd like.
8GB DDR2 @ 4-4-4-12 1068MHz (I think, forgot what the bootstrap gave me)
HD5850 - lots of room to overclock though, just don't need to currently but have tested extensively
8800GTS 512 running the Physx side of things (yay for hacks)
Asus Xonar Sound Card
500GB 7200RPM main drive
1KW Antec True Power Quattro
Antec 900 case
50" LG Plasma @ 1080p - a little bit of image retention, but it never stays around even after 8-9 hour gaming sessions with HUDs up the whole time. Lag is minimal . . .
Win7 64bit Ultimate

The only thing I am planning is perhaps crossfiring the 5850 and using my PCI Physx card again. And maybe a SSD, but still don't know about their controller issues - my brother has borked 2 as well, and once they are bad good luck recovering data. I've had hard drives get the click of death and never lost much. Just my two bottlecaps.

And I'll be getting a radeon HD6850 and oc'ing it pretty soon.

Since I doubt I'll get my grad present (custom computer) by then, I'll probably be buying Skyrim for the 360 or PS3, no way my computer could handle it.

Can somebody please tell me what needs upgrading among my specs? I've been asking the same question for weeks now.

Current Specs

OS: Windows XP 32-bit (just bought Windows 7, so problem solved.)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.13 GHz
3.00 GB of RAM
GPU: NVidia GeForce 9400 GT
Storage: 1 terrabyte hard-drive (along with a backup drive)

First and foremost, your video card svcks ;) either get a 560GT at least or wait for nvidia's next gen (if you're exclusively nvidia). But your processor will be slow too... maybe you can find a FAST and cheap Core2Quad? I'd just save the HDD and the RAM (if it's DDR3) and get a mobo+proc+videocard. But FIRST, THE VIDEOCARD.

AMD Phenom II 965 quad core - 3.40 GHz
4 Gb RAM
ATI Radeon 5850 GPU
Win 7 (64 bit)

Also my husband is on at me to build him a new PC at some point so we should have another decent PC by the time Skyrim is released. If I upgrade anything, it will be my monitor as the one I have right now is not very good.
