Whats your experience with illusion magic?

I've got a new character which im planning to use illusion, sneak, and archery. Though i've heard many say that illusion is a kinda boring school. Is illusion all about casting fear/calm/frenzy and then proceeding to own everyone? :celebration:

I actually find that (for me any way) illusion magic looks cool on paper but svcks in actual play. It will allow you to do some fun things "occasionally" like turning the guards against travellers on the road so you can kill them without incurring a bounty. But in the dungeons... I found arrows and backstabs far more practical and straight forward rather than watching other people fight while you wait around assuming the spell actually works and isn't resisted. When you can "one shot" opponents with a weapon anyway it starts to feel pointless.

It owns! It is VERY useful in dungeons! But you have ti get 90 in it first though so it works on undead :P
But when it does.. it's awesome! You don't need to lift a finger :)

Illusion is a skill I don't use enough; I use a lot of Destruction and Alteration. I'd like to use it more but I think it would be with a more pacifist character and I wish I could get Paralyze way earlier. I may switch to a more pacifist character when I've leveled way up. It would fit with the role I play as a Battlemage/Healer. She could get tired of all the death and destruction and then become pacifist. That way I could explore Illusion more. Just a few thoughts.

It's great for sneaking if only because of muffle and if you keep with it, you'll eventually get invisibility which is awesome btw

also with silent casting, you can enrage somebody in plain sight and cause the townfolk to kill him or her
