Whats your favorite build/playstyle to play?

Post » Thu Apr 15, 2010 9:57 pm

Of all the ways you can play in New Vegas, whats your favorite?

Do you prefer recklessly running in and getting the job done or picking off your enemies from far away? Do you prefer silently killing your victims? Maybe you have a suave way of talking yourself out of a situation and letting others do the work for you.

Maybe you like bringing a knife to a gunfight getting up close and personal? Perhaps you have a thing for when people go boom . Do you prefer using quick travel? Or maybe you become a real wasteland wanderer and never use quick travel making you scavenge to your hearts content. Do you like getting yourself into politics, pulling the strings to tip one side in another's favor? Or do you stay out of their business and do things your way. Theres far too many ways to play that I could post in this OP so I guess what I'm trying to say is... How do YOU play baby, ya dig? :tops:

I prefer the stealthy sniper setup. I always have and it's how I play most fps's. Just like having a rifle in my hands and taking people out with one quick, clean shot to the torso because i can aim faster and more precise then them. Prefer taking the game slowly somewhat, not rushing it but also not walking throughout my whole playthrough.

I like guns, sneak and lockpick. I usually have my sniper rifle (or any scoped rifle) to get people from a distance, but I use a pistol or SMG when they are close.

I like teaming up with Legion as a female Energy Weapons specialist.

I also enjoy putting on mid-low tier weapons and a piece of clothing and explore the wastes.

I love lockpick, sneak, explosives and a little E-Weapon skill, for good measure. Oh, and a little speech can go a long way.

Yes, this x100, I'm always doing that, putting on a 44. Magnum and a suit and roaming around.
But the one I enjoy the most is melee weapons and unarmed. I like not spending alot of money on ammo or upgrading guns so I can buy more meds or implants.

I like to play a diplomatic and intelligent man who's skilled with a gun, but only as a last resort. He also enjoys picking locks. He works for House, but respects NCR's cause, and keeps cordial relations with them. While he understands and respects the Legion's cause, he sees them as an opposition to his business. I tag him with Speech, Lockpick, and Science, but I build up his barter pretty rapidly too.

The way I see it. Speech > Guns

I tend to specialize in killing people from the next town over. If the NPC is just phasing in-and-out of my draw distance they're at the perfect range.

But just the same I'm able to spray and pray with the best of 'em, should the need arise. AK47 for everybodeh!

In Fallout 3 I ran with Small Guns, Sneak and Explosions. In New Vegas I run with Guns, Sneak and Unarmed. Nothing like sniping from a distance then sneaking in for an upper cut to finish them off.

Bullet sniper, pistol wielder, and occasional SMG maniac.
I used to use sneak/sniper a lot, but after a while I stopped and started charging straight in firing, like a gunfight at the corral. Change of pace mostly.

I always prefer talking my way out of things then resorting to violence. So I usually tag guns (for when violence is unavoidable), speech, and repair for keeping my weapons and armor in tip-top shape and custom ammo so I can hit harder if need be.

I also always run around in Merc outfits, so using speech is even more important because if somebody comes at me with an automatic weapon or a heavy hitting rifle I can die fairly quickly. I know sneak would benefit me due to my always low DT, but sneaking around just never did it for me. If I have to use violence I always prefer ending it as quickly as it began with the business end of a shotgun then sniping from afar.

I try to be the "good guy" who talks his way out of everything, and when I have to fight, I'll use the silenced sniper rifle, or the marksman carbine.
Working with the NCR until the end of the game, then stabbing them in the back for the independent Vegas.

But sometimes it's just fun to wipe out entire towns with the Avenger or the Grenade Machinegun. Forget Roleplaying!

I like to play characters which can excel somewhat in conversations. This typically means Speech but NV has a nice number of skill checks so it's not as much of a "must-have". I actually enjoy tagging stuff like Barter or Medicine in this game even though Speech is (obviously) still king in conversations.

As far as combat goes, I prefer to attack from afar though I don't really stealth that much. Brute force characters are rare for me. Lately I've come to really enjoy using Energy Weapons, a modded (the scope at least) Laser Rifle is IMO one of the weapons in the game with the best feel to it. Love sniping with it.

As far as faction allegiances go, I switch that up every playthrough and don't really have a fav. The game is so flexible in regards as to who you wish to support, kill or whatever that I pretty much enjoy it all. It's a great roleplaying game.

I love to sneak in up close and either finish off my enemies up close with a burst from my All American, or a nice little melee strike from Knock Knock. I try to up endurance to so if I get caught I can take as much punishment as I have to also. My character is a ranger and I thought this build was the closest thing to what I imagined the skill set of one would be.

I tend to play 'smooth-talker' types, with Barter and Speech tagged. The third tag is usually Repair, although I've rotated it through the various non-combat skills to keep things fresh. I tend to use Energy Weapons, and snipe whenever possible, although I also enjoy equipping a Gatling Laser and engaging in short-range mass killing.

Alternatively I go for the Survivalist style, wherein I use Guns weapons and live off the land, however these characters also keep Speech and Barter tagged as they need to be able to talk their way out of tight spots since they don't carry any heavy weapons.

Well for starters all of my characters are female who always get Chez La fem, and black widow and i always play in hardcoe mode for that little extra touch of difficulty. As my PCs are female i tend to build them guns, sneak, and survival to 100 and with secondaries in repair, speech and medicine as high as the levels and my ability to track down the skill books will allow which usually is around 50 or so, as i said alot depends on how commited i feel to tracking down the skill books, in other situations i just bring a few mags to top the skills off if necessary. I build them to deal with targets at the most extreme range possible sneaking up on a target shooting it from a range where most of the time the crosshair obscures the target. This range build does not mean she can not rock and roll if you somehow survive the approach all you get is pistol whipped for your trouble, your best bet is to run away and hide. Ultimately the best tactic to survival in the waste land is to avoid popping up on her radar, or to show some contrition for your evil if not she will with out hesitation or guilt arrainge for a nice little dirt nap for ya if you are a bit cranky. None suffer her ire more than the legion who are executed on sight, with extreme prejudice, with thier corpses left as carrion to be picked at by the scavengers or placed in such locations as a warning to other legion scum that they are on the menu and the chef of death is in. She is a true hunter, for anyone can beat up the AV club, where as a true hunter her prey will be the football team instead, the true test of prowess. She will bully the bullies, preffering to go against the natural order of the strong will prey upon the weak and instead choose to prey upon the strong at the behest of the weak. The ultimate waste land predator who lives to put Legion scum in the dirt, who will go out of her way to locate and shoot Legion scum, considering it a public service and the duty of anyone who considers themselves to be human.

This is not to say that she does not understand that the NCR brings with it a version of oppression and corruption so she will either side with House or take over and toss the legion and NCR to the curb preffering self determination, nation status if you will for New Vegas. She fully understands the addictive nature of power, and the potential for abuse of that power, as such she would preffer to roam the wastes with her companions her SO Veronica and the technical marvel Ed-e. As an avid collector of pre war books she has a library to marvel at and a collection of books in the hundreds. As such being well read an axiom from the old world speaks to her " those who are best suited for leadership, who understand it will have nothing to do with it, therefore you will always be stuck with second best" Leon Russell. Sorry for the wall of text but Tristessa (from the novel not the song) is my 5th FONV character so far my favorite, so like a new dad I could spend hours discussing her endeavors.

I really want to try the whole Legion Praetorian thing ...an unarmed evil character with Ballistic Fists. I am dreading doing the whole first half of the game again though, because of boredom and I'm not sure how good unarmed is before Ballistic Fists.

I prefer to be a weapons specialist. My character has 100: Guns, EW, Speech, Medicine, Science, Lockpick. Sneak, Barter and Melee is pretty low. Survivial is decent now after Dead Money.

i put alot in guns, speech and repair then once get then in the 70s and have jury rigger (p.s it saves you alot of time and caps to get this perk) then i put about half of every skill point i get into science and lockpick (i write down every lock i cant pick or terminal i can't hack and return to it).
once those are maxed out which is around lv 25 my next skill points are to go to barter and once i kill all the legendary monster and discover every location and complete the story line. i start a new adventure!!!
