Whats your loadout/hotkeys?

Post » Thu Nov 20, 2008 6:43 am

Just wondering what people put as their hotkeyed items, or what few weapons do you use and carry around the most like a loadout?

I have my scoped hunting rifle, ranger sequoia, and Maria all hotkeyed. Theses are the 3 weapons I use the most as well and they all serve a different purpose, since I'm a sniper character its obvious what I use the scoped hunting rifle for, I save my trusty sidearm Maria for close quarter situations and the Ranger sequoia is just my anti deathclaw hand cannon. Since I'm using a new character right now my loadout isn't all that impressive yet.

I have a 10mm pistol, service rifle, single shotgun, tire iron, and some dynamite. Oh and a 9mm submachine gun is hotkeyed as well. Not an impressive weapon list but hey I gotta level up and get me some better weapons.

I like to travel light and I'm playing hardcoe so for most of the game my loadout has been All-American (hotkey 1) and Ratslayer (hotkey 3) because they both use 5.56mm ammo.

Ratslayer's night scope makes it perfect for traveling the wasteland and All-American can take care of anything indoors. However, now that I maxed out my Explosives skill and Demolition Expert perk I'm going to start carrying Thump-Thump for a little crowd control.

Up: Ammo Change
Up-right: 10mm SMG or Vance's 9mm SMG
Right: Scoped Hunting Rifle or This Machine
Down-right: Grenades (varies depending on situation)
Down: Riot Shotgun or Cowboy Repeater or Brush Gun
Down-left: Sniper Rifle w/suppressor
Left: 10mm Pistol w/silencer or 9mm Pistol or That Gun
Up-left: 12.7mm Pistol w/silencer or 12.7mm SMG w/silencer

It may not seem like it, but I'm fairly consistent on how I hot key.
It's more along the lines of type of weapon, I guess.

Well, on my average/usual character (guns/rifles) it goes like this:

1 - dominant healing aid of whatever sort I'm using for that chr
3 - light pistol, silenced soon as I can (occasionally use so as not to waste rifle ammo)
4 - best rifle type weapon I currently have (extreme dominant use)
5 - reserved in case I feel a need to carry an unarmed like knuckles for some reason
6 - RadAway
7 - Anti-Venom
8 - Rad-X or Atomic C-tail

At this point I absolutely can't stand bringing up the PipBoy in mid-fight. If it can't be done with my hotkeys I'll be re-loading, because I died.

3.Secondary weapon, usually a short-medium range rifle (dinner bell, all-american, this machine etc...)
4.Pest control weapon, for enemies that are way below my level, uses dirt-cheap ammo, easy to repair.
5.Heavy-hitter, which is Anti-Material rifle, for though guys.
(sometimes) 6.Grenades, for clustered low DT enemies.

I used to put stims or chems on eight, but now I either don't use them or not in active combat.

Lucky, Maria, Mysterious Magnum, Hunting Shotgun, Hunting Rifle w/ scope, Cowboy Repeater, Ratslayer. These weapons are always in my hotkey slots and I use them all in different situations. I love the 3 handguns I have, and use them the most, along with the Ratslayer. I have 8 luck, and wear the 1st Recon Beret, so I have a good chance to get criticals with these guns. I can usually sit out with the Ratslayer and annihilate groups of enemies before coming in with my pistola and mopping up. Also, the hunting shotgun in close quarters has been a lifesaver.

Haha, I'm the opposite. I started putting RadAway on hotkey after Vault34 because it was too bloody annoying opening pipboy every couple minutes to take another one. Searchlight the other area I use that hotkey a lot...otherwise not much need for it. The healing key I rarely use in combat, but I do like it just in case. Mostly tho, either I'm dead before I could move a finger to the 1 key (ala deathclaw gets in 1-2 punch) or in my panic I forget I can press the 1 key. :D

For PC users, open the Pip Boy items menu, hold down the numerical button you want to assign an item to then left-click on the item. 1-8 are valid numbers excluding 2 which is reserved for alternate ammo.

1- Sniper weapon- Varmint rifle, Sniper Rifle, scoped Trail Carbine or AMR, depending on game stage, combat environment and opponents.

2- Ammo change

3- High-power panic gun for close range, usually a shotgun, sometimes an automatic.

4) Fly swatter/night vision- Ratslayer or a silenced Varmint rifle, for dealing with low-level pests without degrading the condition of expensive weapons. You don't use an AMR on a Bloat Fly, usually,

5) Antivenom, just in case

6) Stimpack

I am considering putting utility apparel (Naughty Nightwear, Benny's Suit, Vault jumpsuit with +Lockpick and +Repair, Wasteland Surgeon Outfit with+ Medicine) on hotkeys, to save myself the hassle.

1- Stimpak
2- Ammo
3- Silenced weapon <-- pretty useless for me
4- Sniping weapon
5- Shotgun <-- can be good versus creatures, but it doesn't get much use, either
6- 223 pistol <-- I have a mod that makes it svck less, but it's still mainly for nostalgia and a side arm
7- Main weapon
8- SMG <-- useless, too

Now that I think about it, I can reduce it to 1-3 guns without much trouble. Hmmm.

I never thought about rad away haha thanks for the tip :tops: .
Tbh I don't find it as annoying getting rad effected now, the last character I played was a med head so I had high medicene and a advanced rad suit with me ( well on ED-E ).
So I found with the two combined I barely took any rads, not even the 1 per sec that was flashed on the screen..
Truely, on a less medical character the bar rises quickly even on 1 per sec, but on this character it was closer to 1 for every 3 - 10 seconds.

The healing though I'm the same as you, either you survive or die quickly against foes that stims would help with.
So I just roll with the punches, it lends some drama though.
In primm my med character endurence 3 level 6'ish no sneak got swarmed by 6 convicts took down 3 lost a ton of health.
Took down two more left on under one bar of health the last ganger started taking pot shots from the door of the room I took shelter in.
The character leaped up pumping the 9mm like crazy, and some how took the convict down while he managed to miss all three of his shots.

I am too lazy to figure out how to set hotkeys, so I just have a gun and shoot stuff before it can kill me. I do enter the pip-boy to apply antivenom so I do not die to bugs though.

Top - Ammo Change

Top Right - Shotgun Weapon/Close Range Melee

Right - Shotgun Weapon/Close Range Gun/Close Range Melee

Bottom Right - Automatic Weapon

Bottom - Stimpak

Bottom Left - Heavy Weapon

Left - All Purpose Weapon

Top Left - Sniper Weapon

I only carry a few weapons at a time, and i place the weapon in the slot based on the weapon type. I give my characters a certain amount of "weapon points" in my head, then allot weapon points to the weapons i have, meaning i must limit my weapon loadout. for instance, if my char has been given 5 points, he could equip a missile launcher, which is worth 3 points, and a marksman carbine, 2 points, and that is all

Same here, I dont like having 20 different weapons in my inventory, I like to keep it simple with just a mian weapon plus a sidearm as if it were real life. But I cant decide between Maria and the Ranger Sequoia for my sidearm so I carry both, one strapped to each leg I guess :P
