Whats your OMG moment in the Fallout series?

Post » Sun Jan 17, 2016 8:54 pm

F1 - meeting the Master, still one of the creepiest villains i've come across in a video game, really disturbing.

F2 - i guess there were quite a few really, but the one that stands out is blowing up the outhouse and seeing the whole town covered in poop.

F3 - exiting the vault for the first time of course, blowing up Megaton, and in a lesser extent finding myself wonderfully lost in the DC ruins, the first time i'd felt like that since Morrowind.

FNV - not much really, mostly a series of disappointments, the final battle was pretty cool though.

F4 - seeing the interiors on the Prydwen and the Institute for the first time respectively, getting lost in the Glowing Sea, and the ending to the USS Constitution quest. i haven't laughed that hard in a game for quite a while. i still haven't finished the main quest so i've got a feeling there's more to come.

bahaha yea those mutant suiciders are crazy. I forget which building- but the first time i saw one i had no idea what he was. I was in sneak mode with a scope on him- he was sitting down, no armor, no helmet, no visible weapon. I took a shot and missed- he started charging towards me and two seconds later i died in a huge explosion. I was like 'WTF'- happened 2 more times before i realized i needed to shoot his left arm to blow him up lol

Fallout 3: Stepping out of Vault 101 for the first time. The most beautifully ominous thing I ever seen in a video game.

New Vegas was when the Boomers came flying over in the B-29 during the second battle of Hover Dam and dropping bombs on all the Legend troops. They were bringing the rain.

Fallout 4: Stumbling into Jamaican plain at level 9 during my first play through and seeing 11 different types of Feral Ghouls running down the street at me.

Rescuing a certain comic book enthusiast from a group of quite powerful people. Somehow managed it on the first time on Survival, thought I'd have to drop down the difficulty, but charisma is a hell of a weapon in this game.

Oh, and having Deliver fully upgraded certainly helped :P

My moment, much like other people have posted, is the moment you leave the vault in FO3.

Forcing us to start the game in a claustrophobic cramped Vault, leaning to move around and interact with people, then having us step out into the world, was a genius move by the game designers.

For me... this was one of my all time gaming moments ever!

(and I've been gaming since my ZX81)

I started with Fallout 4 and these are my OMG moments. Honest.

- No pre-order DLC and cut-content-for-sale sighted

- Character creator mechanism as deep as Saints Row's, my favorite game, and I love deep customization

- Switchable point of view

- Free choice between barefists, melee weapon, and guns

- Weapon drops come in many variations of parts - AND they drop a lot! Which is the aspect of Borderlands, my favorite series, is selling but horribly failed to meet in the last 2 installments

- Customizing and building stuff up. Not really The Sims fan, but I like the part where they allow me to build stuff up

- Plant crops. Like Harvest Moon with blood

- Fun action pace. No sluggish animation as a result of trying to be realistic

- Satisfying gore

- Freedom of approach

So yeah, just imagine my huge "OMG" coming from first 4 hours in Fallout 4.

Fallout 1: Meeting the Master of course, for an abomination like that he was a really interesting persona but the first impression was like: Gah, owfuk!

Fallout 2: Being allowed into armory in Navarro base - I could not believe how lucky I got...

Fallout 3: Seeing Moira alive after blowing up Megaton, God she was even worse as a ghoul.

Fallout 4: Having 15 FPS when looking at a bathtub @ Railroad HQ after having invested a lot of $$$ in my PC >.<

I didn't play FO1 & 2 that much and honestly couldn't give examples for those. Too long ago for me but I did get hooked and have a fondness for the series.

FO3 - go ahead, laugh but my fave OMG moments were following Liberty Prime and the UFO mothership.

FO4 - So far, wandering too far to the SW at a low level and witnessing a spectacular radiation storm in that truly devastated and desolate setting. I was gob-smacked by that. Just terribly beautiful and frightening.

Lol, nothing beats slowdowns even though you've been standing still on the console! Consider yourself lucky!

Bethesda really need to leave that Gamebryo garbage alone, they own IDTech for the love of god!

id's engines are not good for open world stuff. Pretty and good shooter mechanics but it all has to be set up in the game. They don't translate to anything like a sandbox. Many of us were bitterly disappointed by Rage.

As others have said exiting the vault in Fallout 3 is very memorable. The devastation, the landscape rolling down far infront of you, the landmarks in the far distance. A new world of adventure awaits. Welcome home.

I'm also going to say that the horror The Legion wrought on Nipton to be a very good moment. It serves as the perfect introduction to Caesars Legion and what they stand for. Genocide, terrorism, cold and calculated total war. Even as much as I love Roman Empire stuff, these guys in football loricas were the enemy of all peoples of the wasteland.

in Fallout 4 without giving away too many spoilers I quite enjoyed the slow search for information about The Institute. I never really felt a "OMG!" moment about any of it, but slowly learning more and more about this great mystery was a real treat. Especially since I really enjoy Keloggs character.

Big spoiler for Fallout New Vegas below....you've been warned....

So far my favorite OMG Fallout moment was in Fallout New Vegas, in that vault (I forget the number) with the long hallway to the "light"/sacrificial chamber. Making the player walk that path where so many others had gone to their deaths was just the right amount of creepy (plus a pretty epic robot battle...thank god for pulse weapons). And if you read all the terminal stuff and listen to all recordings that go along with the vault, you see just how ironic the vault experiment and its results were. Definitely my favorite part of the whole series to-date.

  1. The speech before the game.

  2. The nuke scene when entering Vault 111.

  3. The civilised and sci fi design of The Institute.
