When are you expecting the 'gold' announcement?

Post » Thu Oct 13, 2011 12:02 pm

I'd expect the "Gold" announcement within the next two weeks or so, patience is so hard to keep at this point. :tops:

Two weeks give them time for final bugs and I would hope give some time to the production line. I am only concerned for defective discs.

I had a bad Fallout disc. Kept freezing on me. Took it back to Gamestop and got a new one.

In all my years of video gaming I've never experienced a defective disc, hopefully Skyrim won't be my first.

Well the 360 achievements go up the day the game is submitted to Microsoft, which was Oct. 3rd. So unless it's rejected by MS (unlikely) the game is done, at least on 360. This process does not apply to the ps3 version (you don't see ps3 trophies early in the same way) but realistically it would need to be approved within a week or so to comfortably make launch.

I dont care. The game has a release date. With Oblivion the game going gold was a big deal, since it did not have a release date. Skyrim does so I could care less speculating about this. Its coming on November 11th.

I mean the earlier they go Gold and start manufacturing the discs, the higher the possibility of a leak. They have a leak a week before release isn't as bad as if they go Gold around the 25th and have a leak 2 weeks before release. Morrowind went Gold 8 days before launch. NV was 17 days. I'm going with November 1st.

Not sure you realize this, but this is a worldwide release on 11-11-11. Morrowind and New Vegas were not. They have to ship to far more countries than just US and Canada for release on 11-11-11. In order to make a worldwide release like this, they HAVE to go gold as early as possible, especially for shipping units to Australia. With any worldwide release on the same day, the earlier they go gold the better.

I have a question. What happens if I get a defective disc with a CE?

Update from Pete's twitter...

@DCDeacon Is it logical to conclude that Skyrim will go gold before Halloween?

@ZellersKyle yes

So we know it's coming sometime in the next 19 days

What is this "gold" or "going gold" mean?

It's totally finished and ready to be shipped.

It wouldn't be launching on 11.11.11 if it didn't go Gold until the 10th. Pete just said it'll be before Halloween.

The disc that comes with the CE is the same as the regular ones, so i bought that too, so if we do get a bad disc we just go back and get another one, unless i am mistaken.

And get a nice standard case while we're at it more than like. The disc may be the same but the case is not.

23rd-27th Oct. <<< Between that timeline. That's when I completely go off the forums so I don't spoil the game for myself.

Nope its not, but i'd rather just have a working disc, they may not even give you the case, just the disc again, if it was like GOTY edition and had DLC right when it came out then we may be f'd, but its not so you'll just have to get a new one man.

It's when they submit the final version of the game for retail release. It's then burned to discs, packed up and shipped off to stores. Any additional changes will have to do be via patches after release.

I say 2 weeks. They need a good 2 weeks of gold time to prepare for release. It will be in the mid October 20's.

I wouldn't give them the CE case anyway. Need something to put the DVD in :P. But I'm guessing that close to around the release date, they would probably give you the standard case too. Too early for used copies.
