When NV comes out will you keep playing Fo3?

Post » Fri Aug 13, 2010 8:14 pm

I have been making a mod for a long time, and really thought I could get it out before NV, but it appears I will not be able to easily. So I have one simple question. When NV comes out, will you still continue to download mods for FO3 and play it, or will you probably barely ever play it again? (Obviously this only applies to those buying NV) I need to decide whether to 'rush' the ending of the mod and get it out before NV, or just keep truckin and spend an additional month or two on it. Thanks for the input. (Sorry if this is in the wrong place, I thought this was the best forum) I figure people should, as people still mod and play Morrowind a fair amount, but I wanted some votes from the local populace. :P

I feel like I have played Fallout 3 to death, I have got more then my moneys worth out of the game. But I am 100% sure that some where down the road after Fallout 3 New Vegas I will play it again.

ive played so much fallout 3 that i know exactly where NOT to go, and thats why im still sleeping in my bed in vault 101 while the alarm rings.

i've bled fallout 3 to death, so now when NV comes out fallout 3 will gather dust.

Other: I don't know yet how much I will enjoy FO:NV.

If it's better then FO3, the way FO3 was better then Oblivion (I really wanted to like Oblivion... I really did... but bandits in glass armor just didn't do it for me, thank goodness for Oscuro's), then I probably won't play FO3 as much if at all and will switch over to NV.

I do plan on at least 1-2 more plays in FO3. I have yet to try a Power Armor wearer with Big Guns. And I still want to try out FWE.

If NV is good that'll probably be the end of Fallout 3 for me, especially since I'm on the 360 and can't use mods. I've already played through it 3 times and am working on my 4th now. I'll use it occasionally maybe looking for little stuff I haven't done, but it'll be good to have a brand-new Fallout experience.

I will not touch NV before my Enclave MQ mod is complete. Whether it takes a week or ten years.

Although, I do prefer Fallout 3's story and setting, so I will be playing it in the future anyway.

Even though I love Fallout 3 and have been playing it actively since its release date, every next day is torture not having New Vegas. Every little bit of information released gets me excited, so I don't think I'll be playing Fallout 3 much when NV arrives.

That's not to say I will abandon FO3 forever. Of course not, I have grown very attached to the world and its characters, but I'll only play every now and then.

What's this about? God I wish I had the PC version :/
I don't think I'm going to be able to get NV when it comes out because student loans hates me and are paying me the day after, when it will have sold out and then some. But either way, I think they'll be about level for me :D

I haven't decided when or if I am going to be getting New Vegas, but if I get it, I will likely go with the new and updated engine. I might go back for a MQ overhaul or similar large scale quest mod - or even to try out a group of quest mods. There are a few large mods in progress that I look forward to seeing completed.

Depending on what you are doing, it may be possible to convert it to the New Vegas engine. I know Miax is working/hoping on the ability to do so. You may be able to spar on it?

From what I have read, your Enclave MQ mod is pretty much tied into the setting and story of Fallout 3, so it would make little sense trying to convert it to using New Vegas engine and resources. Besides, it would be a quest mod of a scope that would get people (like me) to reinstall Fallout 3 again.

Not to mention (for both of you), just because New Vegas is comming out, it does not follow that no one is going to be buy and/or play Fallout 3 anymore. Morrowind came out in 2002 and it is still being modded and played. Same thing with Oblivion.

I probably won't play Fallout 3 much for awhile, I'll be too busy with NV. But I will eventually come back to it. I've never played with any mods because my computer can't handle the game, but I'm saving up for a new one now. When I get it, you can bet I'll be downloading mods like crazy and checking them out. With the mods, Fallout 3 will keep me entertained years from now. I always end up getting nostalgic for a great game, and Fallout 3 definitely qualifies.

I've been playing F3 on my Ps3 for 2 years. Original and GOTY, I know that game like I know my...uh...nvm. Point is, I still find new stuff once in a while, but still, I'v seen about 95% of what Fallout 3 has offered, and it's always delighted me. However, a less depressing environment than the CW is going to take the cake of me. I've reminesced about 'Who drove that car?' of 'I wonder what this person saw before they died?' or 'I wonder what the person who wore these Pre-War clothes before me was like?'

Now I'm ready to pack up and move on to the Mojave, my work as savior of DC is done. They don't need me to hold their hand anymore.

Then I guess you will play my mod possibly. :D Its a rather large (going to be about DLC length) quest mod.

I dont think a conversion can be even considered. It ties into so much in fallout 3, and if I were to remake it in the NV geck, it has 7000+ references, and has taken me over 250 hours of work so far. So I guess it seems some people will stick around so I will just take my time to finish it well.

i still play fallout 3, i really loved it, but i will probably be done playing it once NV comes out, i think character creation and difficulty level will be a lot better in new vegas, not so much rubble area, larger town and settlments etc. and lets not forget, bethesda will be making FO4 also, so thats coming down the pike, i see FO3 was just the tip of the iceberg for the fallout series, i know the series has been around a long time, but i'm talking about bethesda's time with the franchise, it has just started, less than two years ago FO3 came out and its been a massive success but there is a lot of room for imporvement, and i think obsidian is going to have a big hit on their hands just like FO3 but in my opinion even better better because they already know all the areas that needed improved from fallout 3 and they seem to be adresssing most of those areas. so right now i'm optimistic, bethesda had to have confidence in obsidian to make another fallout game, i trust bethesda's decision to have obsidian make a fallout game. bethesda is a solid RPG game company. they don't make bad games.

Yay mods!!

A couple of questions:

A: How different is the new engine going to be? Would you have to learn a lot of new procedures?

B: Could your story be transferred out to the desert, or is it really specific to the D.C. story line? If some of it takes place in underground tunnels, Those maps might transfer ok if the story isn't too tied to DC.

I know a lot of hours can be sunk into mods, (I put about 4 months into one for another game) but sometimes remaking stuff is faster than making it the first time, since you have a really complete blueprint from the start...

A. Not horribly different, but there will be a few new features. Other than that it should be pretty much the same.

B. Well, really it could be transferred to the NV area. Only like 4 names would need to be changed. But thats not the issue. The issue is I dont want to waste like 2 months remaking all the cells, scripts, packages, and other stuff that has taken up like 90% of my work time. So I think I will just keep working on it.

On the bright side, this is my first mod ever. I dont have a reputation around here, and few people know my name. So I wont really be loosing out too badly. Most of the people who will never touch Fo3 again, probably would not have downloaded my mod anyway.

The only mods I plan on working on prior to switching to NV are going to be small, proof-of-concept mods. Things that can be done within 1 week and that don't take a lot of time.

Like adding random traps to the wasteland...

I just got a good enough CPU to play Fallout 3 on this summer, so I′ll definately be playing a looong time to come! Might not even buy NV any time soon, after all I have to squeese in some time for Oblivion and, yes Morrowind too even after all these years! :P

I will continue playing Fallout 3, maybe a bit less but I'm not abandoning it completely. I still haven't seen all there is to be seen. :)

And I already have an interesting quest mod for NV in mind if the game turns out nice, which it probably will.

New Vegas has to impress me. I love fallout 3 and I'm playing through it again now however Vegas looks more of the same. Nothing about his has impressed me enough to consider buying it but I'll wait for the verdicts from members of this forum.

Fallout 3 for me thanks.

Well I love Fallout 3 to death, but I have probably seen 90% of what there is to see. I am driven crazy by the thought of New Vegas and when it comes out Fallout 3 will definitely collect some dust. But I'll play it again every other day. Also I just bought Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics so something's telling me that Fallout 3 won't be played for a long time. :sadvaultboy:

If there was a fourth option labelled "No", then I would've voted for that. I played Fallout 3 to the point where it became boring and decided to remove it, so the mod (or any mod in this case) will have to be real good for me to re-install Fallout 3 again . . .

I will most definetly be playing FO3 after FO NV  I think most people will. Look at the amount of people playing/modding TES3 and 4, and I'm sure even after TES5 they'll still be at it.
