So when did I murder 9 people?

Post » Mon Feb 22, 2016 10:50 pm

Then again, once I tried to commit an ol' 187 and the game wouldn't let me. It was in ... oops, spoilers.

Well, doll, I had to see this guy about a thing. Only he wasn't a "guy", if you get me. Me and the pooch, we shot and bit our way through a pack of cheap gunsels. Finally, the last staircase is in sight, and at the top, the gunsel's boss talking to our guy through a door.

"Let's cut the palaver.", says I, and I sent him a .50 cal Valentine. (See what I did there?)

Unfortunately, the shot didn't kill him, injure him, or even make him wish he had dressed warmer. He was still marked non-hostile. It wasn't until I walked up to him that he suddenly turned hostile.

His loss; the pooch searched his pants for valuables, and then I shot him.

But it wasn't murder; you're all witnesses.

Murder is such a strong word, I prefer cleansing.

A wise man once said, "You can't make an omelette without brutally murdering a few dozen chickens, to serve as an example to the rest."

Or maybe that was a tyrannical dictator. I can't recall right this moment.

I know for a fact that if you attack the Synth's in the top room of ArcJet before they actually become "hostile" towards your character it will count as Murder. I'm at a little over a days play time with my current "Good" character and am proud to say she has zero murders or assaults. :)

I get it now. I'm supposed to wait for the whole gang of raiders to surround me and start shooting or I am the bad guy. Also with replays I am expecting to be shot so I usually snipe the bad guys without warning. This murder count seems wrong in a game where I am shot at constantly. I'd expect there to be clear bad guys and not have an existential crisis about shooting a guy labeled raider. I'm assuming I can always shoot supermutants but maybe I should check first to see if they are the peaceful vegetarian ones first.

Covenant should not count as murder. IMO it's selfdefense. The settlers shoot first.

Man, I can't count on both my hands and toes how many people have stepped right in front of me as I'm trying to shoot a hostile. I gave up on trying to be nice in this game and have come up with a theory: Maybe these people just want to be dead.

I had a clean slate until the RR told me to kill some coursers while I was still friendly with the Institute, since then it as gone downhill. I don't murder unless the mission demands it.

I've been really careful.. basically checking stats on murder and what not. So far, the stats say I've only murdered 1 person. It can happen if you choose to kill someone before they've actually turned aggressive. This has happened to me once during a conversation. It was an obvious trap so I decided to just start shooting. 3 murders occurred so I reloaded and waited until they went aggro. I'm assuming that some quests like Bunker Hill might also count as murder since you are forced to choose sides. (unless maybe you just run around in a circle and avoid shooting anybody)... but I don't know as I haven't done that quest yet. That one murder occurred for me when I found a random event of two "twins" who were arguing that each other was a synth. ... I chose wrong. I decided to live with it instead of reloading.

I had some "accidental" murders and I've narrowed them down. There's a few Gunners on the top floor in the Greentech Genetics Building during the main quest that if you accidentally kill, will count as murder. Also any friendly/non-hostile NPCs that you kill will also count as murder unless they are specifically targeted say in a quest.

Several of my long range kills were in fact murders. Wrong place, wrong time, wrong outfit. Assuming hostility (even if mostly prevalent in the game) is not a 100% rule. VATS is usually the best option in questionable circumstances. Most of these kills were well beyond VATS range...and they only looked like ne'r do wells...but weren't.
