When did you buy your first house?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 7:54 pm

So, when did you all buy your first house. What level where you; How far along in the MQ were you; and at that time how much money had you aquired?
I only ask because I bought my first house at level 10 and I had only done a few parts of the MQ and a scattering of sidequests (1 to 3). At that time when I purchased the house I had accumulated almost 8,000 gold, which was enough for me to purchase the house in Whiterun as well as all the furnishings for it and still have money left over. I feel that maybe I should have had to wait longer to amass this amount of gold. Also why is it that I cannot purchase a smithing upgrade for my house?? That would have been ideal since that is what I use with my character. I think that if they are going to offer an alchemy table they should be offering stuff for all crafting skills.

How do you all feel about this?

By the time I even got to Whiterun, I had like 13k gold.

So of course, I bought Breezehome. How far was I in the MQ? I had just slain the dragon outside of town. At level 3.

I didn't want to level speech so here is what I did.
When I got to Riverwood I chopped wood for a couple of hrs while I watched a football game. Then slowly walked over to the mill worker and sold it all in one stack. I received about 10,000 gold for that. Then immediately started the main quest to get the chance to buy the Whiterun home.
I think was level 3.
That character is now level 21 and has never sold a single thing to a merchant.

I bought whiterun as soon as I could afford it. I had about 9k or so and bought it and all the upgrades and had a thousand or two left over. I was maybe level 8 to 12, somewhere in that range I'd say. Not sure how far I was in the MQ, about where I am now at level 29 I'd guess, not far at all.

I like to have a home early in the game in order to store things, and from a roleplay perspective it's nice to have a "homebase" to drop some of your collections of items.

First house bought in Windhelm, level 12, no money left over yet for decorations.

I just bought Vlindrel Hall (something like that) in Markarth yesterday, I think I was around level 15. 8,000 gold wasn't too bad, now I'm saving up for the house in Solitude which I think is 25,000. I only have another 5,000 to go which doesn't take long to get :D

First one was whiterun.. got that pretty early and easily. I've had bad luck with getting any other house though. At first I thought there would be on in every city. But because of my unlucky nature I keep going to cities that don't have any houses. Just dumb luck. So whenever I get full up on items I have to run on back to whiterun to stick them in my house.

I don't know whether or not other players look at guides for earning lots of gold early in the game, or if I'm just missing something because I bought my first home in Whiterun around level 19 with 8,500 gold. Know how long it took me to get that?! Plus I don't know who to sell my useless enchanted items, and jewels to for good prices D:

Money is a joke in Skyrim. I had the Whiterun house within 3 hours and the 100k achievement by 15 hours played.

How does one get access to this house in Solitude? Quest line, or just go and buy it?

PS: I BOUGHT my first house in Whiterun, at that point I had the College of Winterhold Arch-Mage Quarters already, I was also approximately. level 33 and had about 45,000g, and yes that was the second the house became available. I did many things before the main quest :)

I am now level 41 and have about 75,000g, I need to go buy some houses!

First character was at level 21 after playing 48 hours. Had just enough money to buy and upgrade the Solitude house. That character is now enjoying semi-retirement.

Level 3 i think, slayed the First Dragon for MQ, my next part is to visit the Greybeard's but i tend to put off the main quest as i prefer to explore and do as much as i can :) anyhoo i bought my house a few hour's later after looting a few location's, mainly used the bedroom chest for the next few hour's before buying upgrade's here and there.

I reached Whiterun at level 5 or 6(I think) and had about 4000 gold. When I found out that I could buy Breezehome rather cheaply I went out, got the money I needed and bought it.
