When did you start lurking?

We all know when you joined; it's right there under your avatar.

But when did you start lurking?

Personally, I'll hover around a forum for months before registering. I think my first visit here was early '04. A friend of mine at school was hugely into RPGs, and lent me Morrowind one day. Unfortunately my PC was so rubbish that it was completely unplayable, but the game sounded like the kind of thing I had been coveting in an RPG for ages; open world, complete freedom, etc. A google search of Morrowind brought me here and I spent many hours reading about the game, despite not being able to play it.

In late '04, I finally got a PC capable of running the game, and I ran out and bought it. A few months later and I was in the process of creating a mod, and in the summer of '05, it was complete. I then got hooked on modding my game and messing around in the CS, and created an account to post in the Morrowind Mods section.

My story isn't as fascinating as yours is, but I didn't join until after I got Fallout 3 and was playing it for two years, and I lurked for a month, then joined when I finally wanted to join in on discussing a game I loved. But Oblivion was my first Bethesda game. But a google search of 'Fallout Forum' led me here.

IIRC began lurking around Dec 08- Jan 09. The Oblivion forums were my first. Had a question about the Thieves Guild I wanted to ask.

I checked out the forums in June or July and then registered in August to respond to someone.

I've checked out the Redguard BB a few times previous to this but never responded.

I started to lurk here in june 2000, shortly after the forums opened, to stalk on the Morrowind developers and see what they had to say about the game :P Eventually I joined the forums to ask a technical question about the game Redguard, which noone was able to answer <_<

All the action was at m0use.net back then.

Hi Omni! ^_^

I lurked for a few months. Didn't want to be part of a forum of any kind... but then one day I had to use the search button. I'm not part of any forum (that I actually visit) but this one. That search button is a trap I tell ya!

m0use.net was the central hub for all the happenin' Elder Scrolls fan pages. UESP and Xanathar's Library (n.k.a. The Imperial Library) are just a couple of the sites that originated there. Perhaps they're also the only ones left...

Anyway, m0use and its affiliate sites were hosted on a private server generously given space on Bethesda's network. As such, it was sort of the official-unofficial fan community. There was also an accompanying IRC chat server, where one would often find the heads of the major fan sites, and occasionally certain Bethesda developers.

Then, one day, m0use went away. No idea what happened there.

Also, Hi Freddo! I may not be around much anymore, but I've not forgotten any of you guys! I hope you're all right.

Well in 2008 I was in a computer class, and after we finished our work we were allowed to do anything, but play games. So I figured I would join a forum of my favorite game to post on in my class free time, if I couldn't play them, might as well talk about them.

Did a google search for "Morrowind Forum" and here I am. No lurking involved in my story.

In August 06, I could link you my old account even now, did a quick search and found it. The name is diabolically sad though :P. I came here looking for help in Oblivion with the vampire cure quest, I think.
