When did you start to play Oblivion?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 9:34 am

I started my cyrodilic journey in Februari 2007. I was fresh home from the horrors on Mars where I battled demons from Hell. Coming to Oblivion was absolute Bliss  which is kind of ironic as Oblivion is the name of Hell in Cyrodiil
I have kept playing it ever since with only a few games in between. It′s as someone once said; "You don′t stop playing Oblivion. You just take various long breaks."
This truly is the case for me as I slowly reach for the 1600 hrs mark with my character you all know as http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k505/mirocu/Oblivion2011-01-1021-58-17-34.jpg.

So when did you start to play this masterpiece?

2007 as well, though I do not remember the month. I played it right up until Skyrim came out. I don't know if I'll ever go back to Cyrodiil or not.

2006, till about 2009. As far as first playthrough is concerned, it's my favourite game ever, closely followed by FFIX.

2008, about a week before I started creating my first mod for it! I'd probably have got it earlier, but I was too busy making mods for Dungeon Siege. I need to find out what Elys is playing now, as I seem to start playing/modding a game just as she moves on each time.

I began playing Oblivion in June of 2007 and have remained there almost continuously and exclusively since. I did play quite a series of various characters, even engaging in restartitis. On April 19, 2009, however, Buffy was born and I have not visited the tutorial dungeon again since then. Her hours are pushing 800 and her Journal exceeds a quarter million words.

I voted 2008, but it might have been late 2007. It was the GOTY version, so it couldn't have been any earlier than that.

I had previously done the same thing with Morrowind (waited for GOTY full version before buying.) It puts you a couple of years behind the "curve," but you ultimately start with a relatively bug-free (and complete) game. I'll do the same with Skyrim. (If I buy it at all. Judging from the volume of complaints over the latest "patch," it doesn't look like Skyrim is going to be the Game of the Year any time soon. :spotted owl: )

October of 2008, how could I ever forget? I wanna say October 24, 2008...actually, let's see if that's right....

goes to have a look at game install info on PS3

Wow, I was right! :twirl: 10/24/08 Although it says "9:24 am" and that can't be correct. Chances are my brand-new PS3 didn't have its time set up correctly at that point.

January 30, 2011 for me. I played Morrowind on my Original Xbox until I bought a computer that I thought could handle Oblivion adequately.

2011, about a week ago I think - (realtime) - Niamh, or an incarnation of her at least, was in Morrowind prior to that.

2008. That's when I learned that there was an Elder Scrolls series at all. I bought Oblivion and was instantly hooked.

Me too. I'd been looking for this game, or a game like it, practically since the 1980's.

Bought the in '08 and played it quite a bit. Took a very long break from it, and discovered it was still on my hard drive a month ago. Didn't have the cash for Skyrim so fired up Oblivion and started a new character. Fell in love with the game, again and have 60+ hours in so far. Plan on keep playing and postpone buying Skyrim

Guess I am the sole entrant from 2010. I downloaded the game from xbox live during a weekend special in Oct 2010 for 9.99. Best investment I have ever made, and the most hours I have logged into a single game that I am aware of. This is one of the reasons that I resolved to purchase Skyrim on 11/11. After the gaming experience I had with Oblivion, I wanted to be early on the curve with Skyrim, and experience the warts, growing pains and everything else associated with the sequel. With a little research and leveraging advice in these forums (installing to USB drive on 360; avoiding patch 1.2) my problems have been minimal, and I don't regret the purchase. As stated previously, I specifically resolved to purchase Skyrim on 11/11 due to the fact that I was so tardy playing Oblivion which is one of the best games that I ever played.

Hi all,August,2011 for me..... I was reading a copy of "Game Informer" magazine, they had just done a write-up on Skyrim and I thought the graphics looked gorgeous so I ran down to the local GameStop and got a copy of Oblivion just to see if I liked the game enough to invest the $60. bucks.....Man,I had no idea of what I had gotten myself into! Having NEVER played any RPG type games before I was totally addicted within a few hours! Actually,I picked up a copy of Oblivion and Assassin's Creed II at the same time,I started A/C but did'nt care for the "style" of play and after about a week of that I switched to Oblivion.....wow,what a difference! I've always done the sim racers and MS/FSX was my main thing for many years but I can't ever remember having more fun than with Oblivion....Pre-ordered Skyrim and after a few days of that cold, bleak feeling I get from all the mountainous snowy stuff I found my way back to Cyrodiil and a bit of warmth at my Anvil home.I plan on returning to Skyrim,...someday! :tes:

I'm going to say 2007. I remember hearing about it in 2006, but I don't think that's when I started playing. That was when I was still at school, and in science class I sat next to this really shy but amazingly clever boy, who, once you got him talking about a subject he liked, would go on for hours. Instead of concentrating on the lesson he told me about Morrowind and then that led into discussing Oblivion, and he recommended it to me since he didn't think I'd like Morrowind.

So I guess I must have got Oblivion for christmas or something, or bought it in the new year with the money I had, and it was the PC version. (The only console I had then was the PS2.) So 2006-07. But then I stopped playing the PC version a year, two years after that, probably because the computer was getting old or I didn't know so much about roleplaying to extend the experience. (I was clueless about mods, so never bothered installing any.) The thought of getting an xbox 360 didn't even cross my mind until earlier this year, even though I'd always play on them when I was at friends or boyfriends' houses. Then as soon as I got one I bought Oblivion again. The rest, they say, is history.

It's the sign of an amazing game when I can come back to it 2 years later and feel like I never left at all. :tes:

2006. Pre-order. Collectors edition. Day one.

I was like a kid on Christmas morning; Ogling the septim and map while the game installed, and thinking to myself, "I finally get to visit the Imperial City, Kvatch, Cheydinhal... But wait, where the hell is Sutch"!

I'm not entirely sure but I believe it was 07. I remember playing it on Christmas but I know I didn't get it release year. Obviously because of my join date on the forums I must have started playing in 07. I know I played it before then though, probably some time around Sept.-Nov. of 07 because I remember renting it from a local store.

My friend showed it too me in summer 2006. I only recently realized that wasn't long after it initially came out
