When does Skyrim take place?

Post » Wed Oct 27, 2010 11:33 pm

I was wondering when skyrim takes place. I heard it was 200 years and I've also heard directly after Oblivion. I wondering because I just finished "THE Infernal City" which I liked and if skyrim takes place before the book it makes things very interesting for the 2nd book. also:
Spoiler:(For Some)
Morrowind is wiped out aswell and morrowind borders Sky rim etc. So can someone please clarify.

It's not a direct sequel just to clarify things here, it's another chapter of The Elder Scrolls series, a chronological sequel. 200 years after Oblivion crisis ended by the Hero of Cyrodill. Though it's not certain if it's exactly 200 years or it was just said to easy things.

If I am not mistaken isnt there a huge age gap between all TES titles, there was between Morrowind and Oblivion and now in Skyrim its two hundred years and I guess its a direct sequel because there is a V at the end of it.

Oblivion was 5-6 years after Morrowind. I don't know much about Arena and Daggerfall, but I think all of the games took place in the 3rd Era.

Skyrim is not a direct sequel because of the V, that doesn't even make any sense, why would it be because of a simple "V'? That's just 5 in Roman. It's not a DIRECT sequel at all, just a chronological one.

It's a direct sequel in that the events of IV lead directly to the problems in V. This is different from something like New Vegas, where the overall setting is the same but NV isn't dependent on Fallout 3 for its storyline.

However, it has also been described as a whole new beginning since all the previous games chronicled the fall of one dynasty and the new one is the beginning of the next era.

No, I think this is the largest gap. Daggerfall to Morrowind was like 20 or so years. And 6 years for Morrowind to Oblivion. Anyways its a direct sequel, in my opinion, since the results of the events of Oblivion are very apparent in Skyrim.

Edit: Dang it, Ninja-ed

Keep in mind we are talking about 200 Elder Scrolls years, not 200 real world years.

What difference does it make? There are still 12 months, 30-31 days, 7 days a week in TES's time.

If remember right the calendar in TES is pretty damn close to ours in length.

Well seeing how the calender has always been the close to or the same amount of days as our real world calender then I suppose it is the same thing. The only reason time goes by quicker in Oblivion is because it has a different timescale to make each second a minute of Oblivion time. You can actually change it with the console

there were rumors before the skyrim announcement, where a guy claimed he over heard bethesda employee's taking about "dragonlords, blades, etc". When some game news sites reported this, they all were saying "can i haz direct sequel pleaz" and then everyone started to believe it was true. people assumed that just because Oblivion was mentioned in the Skyrim trailer, the direct sequel rumors were true. but the narrator was talking about a prophecy.
the GI magazine says it pretty clearly in the first page that its not a direct sequel

Well that was just a little joke about the "V" I know its a Roman numeral, lets not be to serious now. It is still a follow up to Oblivion reguardless and it is still a sequel. Hmm I must have forgotten about the gap between Oblivion and Morrowind.

oblivion started at 3E 433
after the oblivion crysis that era ended and a new one began,
so, i'd say skyrim will start 4E 200

That whole "direct sequel" silliness was the result of some mistranslation. Some guy in Europe (not sure where he was from, I just know he didn't speak English) said in his language that he allegedly was on a flight with Bethesda people and overheard them talking about how the next game will be a chronological sequel. However, he was mistranslated as saying "direct sequel". 200 years was actually confirmed before the game was announced because of a slip up with book retailers accidentally saying that the book partly bridges the gap between Oblivion and the next game set 200 years later.

Oh I forgot to clarify things for the OP, it takes place about 2400 lunar months after Oblivion. This can also be written as 40 lustrums, 50 olympiads, 4 jubilees, or 13.33 indictions.

The moar you know!
