I never got too far into skyrim to really know that, i have a extremely bad habit of getting to a certain point into the game, realise i'm not even halfway done even in the main quest and i'm alredy way too high level (by simply playing normally mind you), and i somehow lose interest in that run and start over.

The one thing i never got to see was alot of dragons. Outside of the ones that are always near words of power, the random dragon encounters everyone claim to be way too common almost never happen for me. So i'm gonna ask, are the random encounters supposed to happen more often later in the main quest, or am i just unlucky in general?

Random dragons will spawn after you absorb your first dragon soul at the Whiterun watchtower, from what I have heard after that a dragon encounter should happen every 3 in-game days.

From what I've read from other posts if you fast travel more often you may encounter them more.

Yeah, i am aware that they start right after the first dragon fight near whiterun, but even so i semm to almost never see random dragons spawn to attack me, and from what i read random dragon encounters were supposed to happen way too often (resulted in alot of people complaning also), but that is not the case for me in any run i have ever done.

Is the random spawn chance always the same or is there going to be a point in the game where it will be easier to find those random encounters?

Try fast traveling between Dawnstar and the College of Winterhold. Both are assailed constantly by dragon attacks when you fast travel.

Dragon fights in Winterhold are extremely annoying.

I'm not sure if fast travel directly results in more dragons, seems rather unlikely.

However, the reason for this could be, that fast travel isn't teleporting, ingame-time passes to reflect that your character did normally travel to your destination.

This could result in the impression that fast traveling increases dragon encounters, because for people who fast travel a lot, more ingame-time passes in the same amount of real-time than for people who don't fast travel much, especially because the latter might get distracted more.

If you fast travel a lot, the mentioned 3 ingame-days pass a lot faster, you get more dragons in your game session, and with less other stuff in between. If you don't fast travel, you're playing the game for a longer time to get another dragon which means less dragons per game session, and you also do more other stuff (travelling, discovering locations, other random encounters, fighting enemies...) between those dragon encounters, increasing the feel they are more rare or spread out.

In previous games I'd fast travel almost exclusively, once I discover a new location. And dragon attacks would occur approximately 7 out of 10 times I'd travel into a city or town. Now on my current game I've cut down the fast traveling by almost 75% and I've yet to encounter a dragon, and this is 80 hours into my current game.

I fast travel to winterhold a lot and encontered only 1 dragob by lvl 33 personaly. Actualy I fast travel everytime I can and ive killed only 7 dragon so far is that what players call cummon ?

Jeez, I always run into dragons and i haven't fast traveled on any of my recent characters.

Also, just beat the game man.

Make a character and dedicate him to staying on the mainquest line and just beating it. that's what i did, because i had the same problem you're facing.

the dragon encounters are random, you may rarely encounter them or you may develop severe migraines from just hearing the in-game sound of a screeching dragon.

When you first battle Alduin, Dragon spawns percentage is at it's highest.

Dragon spawns begin to increase in frequency when you meet Alduin reviving a dragon with Delphine, and continue to increase the more you advance in the MQ until your first battle with Alduin. From there on, it remains at the apex until you slay Alduin. After finishing the MQ, Dragon spawns are at the lowest possible.

When I want my ( non-dragonborn ) charcters to have random dragons they kill the first dragon and that's it, When I want more dragon's, alot more, I have them go kill the dragon with Delphine and because of her lines and the way I RP them, they just don't progress further in the MQ.

Derik lvl 47 ( retired) rarely ran into dragons after finishing the MQ, Lyrerria lvl 25 on the other hand never did finish the MQ, but every time she turned around she was getting attacked by dragons in Winterhold, neither FT except to get "unstuck".

I hate it when I fast travel to a town and a dragon comes and chews up and spits out townspeople!

I've learnt to ride travel to the nearest point and ride to the town!

I mean seriously, a someone in a dress or shorts and a shirt taking on a dragon with an iron dagger?! Crazy!!
They must really be wanting to go to sovngarde!

It's always rare to for me to get one to spawn randomly, but then again I almost never fast travel. Winterhold seems to spawn them quite often(and they like to hide on rooftops )

My original Xbox 360 character is a dragon magnet. Fast traveling seems to gives you more dragons since you are not wasting all that time traveling, but my character can just walk and still encounter random dragons, it just takes him longer to get any where. I would rather fast travel. He has moved to the PC and got himself a nice magic spell (mod) to seriously cut down on his unwanted dragon problem. Does not seem to work that well for Hearthfire homes, but Lakeview manor is now fortified, Heljarchen does not yet get dragon attacks, so he only has to kill a dragon most times he visits Windstad Manor. I can love with that.

Braggen had done all but the Dark Brotherhood questline before he finished the main quest, which seems to have given him a very high rate of random events, especially hostile ones. So whether it was dragons, vampires attacking towns, house attacks, dawnguard or just encounters in general, he got a lot of them.

Seems to me if you just do the companions, civil war and the main questline, you should get more than enough dragons.
