When did real world events stop?

I have always pictured Fallout starting with the end of WW2. Is this accurate at all?

Sometime after during or after the 1950s.

It doesn't seem like suddenly the real world stoppend and the alternate universe begain in 1950, it's more like the real world faded out into the alternate universe till it was almost gone but it's still there, small as a grain of sand.

Wasn't it said somewhere that the point of divergence occured when JFK wasn't assassinated?

Maybe I'm just imagining that though.

Would be the first I ever heard of that.

We were not really given any info on when it really stopped.

We do know it was after WW2 and things in the 1960s did not happen. No vietnam war, no cuban missile crissis. Also given how the 1950s feel is what is very prevalent in Fallout it would have been during the 1950s.

Fallout as we all know is what the people of the 1950s thought the future was like and nuked to hell.

If you must pin it to a specific event, at least from a tech point of view most go with the invention of the transistor which went into production in 1954 in the real world; but that doesn't even scratch the surface or explain non technical developments (or the lack thereof)

Yeah, I thought they made the 13 commonwealth territories immediately after WWII, which is definately split from the modern timeline.

Originaly it was aproxemetly 1948, but Beth was like " [censored] that!" and made it so that a samurai was abducted about the time Europe was in the dark ages.
If we ignore F3 then in NV there was Sunset sasparilla, and that was like 1918 or something like that.

Nah, MSZ is part of the real timeline.

They're still up there, just watching.

Probing the occasional hick.

I want to go 1984 on F3's ass....

In the Museum of Technology in Washington there's an exhibit on the first manned space travel, by an American in 1961. So presumably the divergence has happened at least a few years earlier to get American space travel to this level.
