When Exactly Should I Use Each Nanosuit Ability?

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 3:24 am

I'm not very good at all at online FPS games on console. I've always svcked at them & I admit that. I had Black Ops a few months back and I was pretty much ALWAYS bottom of the scoreboard at the end of the match. Anyway, I traded it in as I was just finding it too hard to get used to.

I then bought Crysis 2 as soon as it came out, and played all through the singleplayer. I then decided to try out multiplayer. The 'pace' of the game seems exactly like Call of Duty. I'm not saying it's a CoD rip off, as it isn't. It's just that the pace of the game is what gets to me. Some players seem to be able to cope with the fast paced action perfectly, but for me I just panic FAR too much and even if I sneak up on somebody from behind, chances are I'll empty an entire clip into the air around them and they'll turn around & kill me. I'm trying to get used to it though.

I'm just wondering though... When exactly are the best times to use Stealth & Armour? I never know whether to just have armour active constantly, then hide until it recharges & activate it again. Same goes for stealth really. I just have no idea when the best time to use each one is, so I'm either running around the map with NOTHING activated, trying to preserve energy, or I'm running around with stealth or armour on only for it to run out extremely quickly & leaving me out in the open with a massive target on my head.

I'm not very good at all at console FPS games online, so the fact that I have to worry about energy management at the same time, is just causing my K/D ratio at the end of each round to be something like 3 kills, 14 deaths.

Anyway, if you guys could perhaps give me some tips as to WHEN exactly to use each nanosuit module, and how to preserve energy better, I'd greatly appreciate it.

If I can't get used to this, I may have to give it up & get 'Brink' once it comes out, but I just hope I can get the hang of this instead as it looks really promising & I bet I could get a lot of enjoyment out of it if I were to get better.

Thank you guys.

Use stealth to move around the map. Run from cover to cover in stealth. Switch to armor before you start shooting. It's going to be rough going until you start ranking up and upgrading your suit. Watch the map for the enemy, the ones who don't use silencers give away their position when they open fire. Stay away from the middle of the map. Stay on the outside with the wall to your back as much as you can. This will prevent you from getting murdered from behind constantly. You will die, alot. But take as many enemies with you as you can. When in armor and a guy right in front of you sometimes its better to melee. Use your pistol before you melee, they go down with one punch of you shoot them a couple times first. Watch some youtube videos, I saw a really god one on here last week in the media subforum with ten tips on playing crysis 2. And stick with your teammates to prevent being ambushed. Good luck and have fun

Stealth: Anytime you are not firing your gun or recharging your energy, activate it.
Armor: When you're about to get hit by a grenade, otherwise... Never.

I tried using stealth to move around the map, but it depletes EXTREMELY quickly. I can only run a few steps before it's down to about half, so once it gets to around half, I usually have to find some cover to allow my energy to recharge. Watching other people play, they don't seem to be doing that. It doesn't feel right running around in stealth mode. Surely there's a better use for stealth mode isn't there? If you're in a gunfight then armour seems to be the best best, so the only real use I can see for stealth is to get a stealthed knife kill, which for me isn't that often.

So not even if you're in a 1v1 gunfight with somebody? I would have thought that'd be the perfect time to use it.

The movement speed reduction causes you to be easier to hit and keeps you from strafing in and out of cover as well as strafing to block line of sight from other possible attackers. Also, strafing is almost essential to precise aim with anolog sticks and I find my aim to be much more inconsistent when using armor mode. Beyond that, you'll usually be popping out of stealth and killing someone almost instantly, most of the time with out them being able to return fire. The couple of seconds it takes to kill them is also enough time for your energy to start recharging, thus leaving you with more energy to restealth as soon as you get the kill. Armor mode just delays you even further.

Another thing to note is that it only reduces dmg based on energy. So if you're low on energy it won't even fully shield you from 2-3 bullets. It's really pretty useless.

OK thank you very much for that. The only thing is... Stealth depletes energy at a stupidly fast rate. Obviously this is done to prevent people from just running round constantly in stealth all game, but I can only take a few steps literally and I'm down to half energy.

Should I just play this thinking it's Black Ops with the addition of stealth? It seems everybody I play against online is just running around the map aimlessly killing people without EVER stopping. It's such a fast paced run & gun type of game (that's what it feels like anyway) that it seems that's what you NEED to do in order to get a good score.

So I then thought "OK I'll give it a shot" and after sprinting and jumping for a few seconds, my energy reserves are depleted, or at least at half which means popping stealth on then will be pretty much useless, so the majority of my time spent ingame is being a sitting duck waiting for my energy to recharge, whilst I see other players running around non stop getting kill after kill. I just played then and somebody ended up with 32 kills, 1 death. I'm thinking "how the hell is that even possible?". Honestly, some people are just ridiculously good at FPS games on console, and I just svck. I ended up with 0 kills, 9 deaths. I'm CONSISTENTLY bottom of the scoreboard and I don't know why.

It just seems that everybody else who plays knows 100% what to do and when to use each nanosuit module etc etc. It's just frustrating that I'm so different, as I wish I could be even half as good as some of the players I've seen so far. It's just annoying.

This is about right for me.
Stealth all day everyday, to make sure i dont get seen jumping from cover to cover.
Also use stealth to flank the enemy...with a silenced weapon:

Stealth > Kill > Stealth > Assess immediate area(If anyone heard ur silencer go off they will be searching but wont be able to see you clearly....kill them > Rinse and Repeat.

Armour only if a grenade is up close.
Sometimes ill armour up in 1v1 gunfights, but rarely as id rather just strafe around the other guy who almost always has Armour on and simply wont be able to follow my movements

OK what do you guys do when you're low on energy but you're stealthed? Do you hide behind cover & wait for your energy to recharge, or do you just run around shooting until it recharges?

I usually hide & wait for my energy to recharge, but then it feels as though I'm camping. I read somewhere that to be good at games like this you should take more of a run & gun approach as opposed to hiding (which is what it seems needs to be done so you can wait for your energy to recharge).

As someone that is probably no.1 for kills on this game I know what I'm talking about. I'm about 200th in the world for xp and consider probably 150+ of the top 200 are boosters puts me pretty high.

I would guess that your a low level on this game and so do not have most suit modules unlocked.

What you want to do is keeping running around in stealth and whenever you are about to engage in a gunfight then use your armor.

Every time you get hit while in armor you gain armor xp which helps to unlock further armor suit modules. Keep using armor until you have armor at level 6. DONT USE ANY armor suit modules unlock points, except for proximity alarm if you like, until you have armor at level 6 because you need them to unlock the better armor modules. Once you have armor at level 6 then unlock ENERGY TRANSFER and DETONATION DELAY (if you like Crash Site otherwise choose anything else you would like).

With Energy Transfer every time you kill someone you get energy, with detonation delay it delays grenades and other explosives when there near to you which is great for Crash Site.

In regards to your energy depleting so quickly, this happens because you don't have the Stealth Module called Stealth Enhance. When this module is at level III it reduces stealth energy costs by 50%. TRY AND RANK THIS UP AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. If you kill someone within 8 seconds of coming out of stealth it ranks it up by 1 or more depending on if you got a double/triple kill in those 8 seconds. You need 350 kills with 8 seconds of stealth to get it to level III. Shouldn't take too long, especially if you play Instant Action because there are enemies everywhere around you.

As soon as your Power module is level 6 then unlock and use Mobility Enhance. This will reduce the energy costs for running and sprinting. The Power Module funnily enough ranks up using running and jumping so you should have this at level 6 pretty early on in the game.

Once you get Stealth Enhance III then you can drop Mobility Enhance and use whatever you like, I prefer either Weapon Pro or Retriever depending on my mood. Sometime I like to use Ammo Pack III because it gives me an extra grenade and more ammo which is great for Crash Site. The reason you drop this is because you have more than enough energy by having Stealth Enhance III and Energy Transfer so you may as well use something else.

In Brief this is what you need to do at this stage;

1) Armor Modules - Unlock Proximity Alarm and use armor whenever your engaging an enemy to level up armor modules to level 6. Once level 6 unlock energy transfer and detonantion delay.
2) Stealth Modules - Use Stealth Enhance and rank it to level III. No need to ever use any other Stealth Module there rubbish compared to Stealth Enhance.
3) Power Modules - Unlock Weapon Pro or Aim Enhance (I prefer Weapon Pro) and keep running and jumping while playing the game (no need to do it deliberately, it will rank up by itself) until the module is level 6. Once at level 6 then use Mobility Enhance.
4) Once Stealth Enhance is level III, then drop Mobility Enhance and use whatever you like. I like Weapon Pro or Retriever.

This is it. I have prestiged or rebooted in C2 terms 4 times now so this I have found is the most effective and easiest way to play the game when starting out. I use this all the time. I'm level 15 at the moment after prestiging and I have a 3.5 KD, who needs the best modules and guns? lol

If you want any more advice then just ask. If you want to add me to Xbox Live then my gamertag is my gamesas username.

Stealth by all means, but why run? For a new player struggling with the game I'd move at normal speed in stealth, then your energy won't drain so quick and you'll have chance to assess your surroundings!

I struggled like you when I started playing FPS' on Xbox live. You'll probably never be the best but you'll get a bit better.

Crysis 2 in some ways is harder than COD as you have more to think about. In other ways though stealth gives you a bit more time to react if you use it well.

Knowing the maps is huge, when to stealth and when not to. Try to get into good vantage points and use stealth to spot enemies then move in for the kill, switching to armour mode (or at least out of stealth) before you shoot them. Until you get better stay out of direct one on one frontal firefights if you can!

Stealth. You are a predator. Use this as a default mode to get around areas with long sightlines or at moments of tactical importance such as hiding, stalking, camping, reloading, recovering from an adrenaline rush after a most perfect firefight. When running BEFORE energy is depleted, PLAN to hit a safe spot to recharge. Safe spot recharging is NOT camping. Recharged? Get back out there. Turning a corner? Stealth and ADS as if you know someone will be there. Turn off Stealth or switch to Armor before you fire. Give your suit time to switch modes or you will still break your suit. Be paranoid. Stealth.

Armor. You are a slow tank. Remember laying a whole magazine into that guy and seeing your shots ricochet off? Well that can be you too, so hit that bumper when you're getting shot at. Listen to the rounds bounce off your suit as you have enough time to turn and get your shot at 'em. No more enemies? Bump that right bumper if none are known then pick up YOUR dogtag and get out of there.

Power. Be vigilant when and where you recharge.

You are a very powerful weapon that will get killed way too many times than you want. Learn from each encounter as if you did something you should not have done. Did you rush into an encounter too quickly. Stealth ran and forgot to recharge and ran into an enemy.

I just posted two videos on this very topic. If you get a minute, check them out, as I feel they will help players who are unsure of how to operate the nanosuit get their KD up by a pretty decent amount. I wish the best for you :)

I think I'm going to try out TwistedBuddha's preferences.

EDIT: Holy ****, I just tested out Buddha's recommendation and I ended up going 25-5 on Impact in an Instant Action game.
