When do we get to see some PC footage?

Post » Wed Sep 14, 2011 6:01 pm

People, look at the difference between Oblivion on PC and Oblivion on Console. If that really seems like "miles" apart from each other, then so be it. But thats basically how much different the PC Skyrim will be from the Console Skyrim. The PC graphics will definitely INDEED be better, but not "far better" or "miles better". BF3 PC and BF3 console. Now THATS miles better. But this game? No. This game wont be that much of a "huge" difference. "i can assure you that it will be much better on PC". If your not smart enough to figure out that Todd only said that because he was getting BOOED by the crowed, then. . i dont know what to say. . .But anyways, stop trying to put down Consoles. Its getting old and pathetic. . .

What difference does it make?

What difference? How many other times has todd mentioned "the PC graphics will look WAY better". Hmmm? Show me a video where he hypes it. Why would he say it ONLY when he is getting booed by a crowd of PC gamers? Lets meditate on it for a bit. . .

You mean after they Booed him.

The booing was immediate.. and threw him off guard.
Any demo that is on the PC live is played by another person behind the curtains.. he wanted to play it himself .. on stage.. so it had to be with the Xbox version.

I don't think he was booed during the fan interview. Where he mentions "The PC version also gets higher res textures, larger render modes, and a bunch of other effects you can scale up if your machine is a beast."

No. It will be better, but not "miles" better. If you set yourself up for "miles" better, you will be disappointed when you finally see that the PC version isnt that much greater, just better res. Be happy with that. Take it or leave it.

And no, bethesda didnt show off the console version for that reason. "false advertisment". Really? You really think thats why? Sorry, but that is a really dumb assumption, and it only goes to show that your being a PC elitest right now. Stop it. Immediately. If that were true, then why is all the footage on BF3 out right now is basically PC? Todd prefers Xbox, he has said it VARIOUS times. Im a PS3 gamer by the way.

The difference on the 360 and PC in Oblivion was massive, and now when they've managed to squeeze everything out of the console, I imagine it'll be even bigger on the PC.

As for Battlefield 3, who knows. They've stated the PC is the design platform for Battlefield 3, so that might be why, whereas the TES series is a lot more console friendly. How am I a PC elitist by the way? By claiming that PC has vastly superior graphics by default in all games, which it does, or my saying that it's shown on the Xbox because that's the very minimum graphically? (Also I'm pretty sure it was stated by Todd that it was simpler to show off the Skyrim demos on the Xbox.)

Hell, stop trying to downplay the difference that a good PC can make because you're feeling insecure. I own consoles as well. They have their uses, but they don't come close to what a PC can pull off, especially after you start tweaking the ini files. No need to get defensive.

This is from the Quakecon video.

I have been planning to build a PC for a while, was planning on getting it done before Skyrim, but literally today I have changed my mind, it's just too damn expensive for me currently, I am a student and would rather be using that money for better use (general expenses, going out, instead of just having an awesome PC that might not even get much use) it's so much easier for me to just buy this game for my 360 that I already own, the game looks way more optimized for consoles anyway.

Except for the fact that the game will have 360 controller support...

Maybe next month when the system requirements come out but I doubt it. We probably won't see any footage until 11/11/11, but that's not so far away so I don't mind.

This is definitely true. That comes down to your rig, and sometimes, not even the best is enough.
But I usually go with a little less FPS if it means an upped visual level. Mods are a typical such
scenario. 'No pain, no gain', so to speak. How much 'pain' one tolerates, is up to each and everyone
to decide for themselves.

I downloaded the true HD videos from Gamersyde today, and I must say, I almost had a hard time
believing they are from an Xbox even though I have owned one for over 5 years. I can only imagine
how good it will look on a PC without even maxing it out 100% if it looks that good on an Xbox.

I've played Oblivion on 360, Ps3 and Xbox 360. Looks better and runs better on PC, then PS3, then 360 in my opinion and I'm sure Skyrim will be the same. Also the PC was without mods too. Just cause people say PC is better you can't say they are all elitists.

Not to mention, it's not as though any "PC elitist" tries to exclude any console user from crossing over. I've never encountered a dedicated PC user saying, 'don't get a PC' or 'you don't deserve a PC', or anything of the sort. Matter of fact is that most PC users, if anything, tend to try to get console users to cross over only 'cause we're all glad we did. It's not a pissing contest. That stupid term needs to be thrown into Mt. Doom...

I agree with Justin on this one. That expression needs to go! I see myself as a gamer,
meaning, I game on whatever I can. PC (being preferred personal choice), Xbox, PS3,
PSP, you name it. I never bought into the whole fanb?y this or fanb?y that that faction
mentality that seems to be so common. I prefer the PC, because it gives me more
options when gaming (mainly addons and mods), and in general better graphics. But
I game on all the other systems just as happily.

Textures will be better but i doubt they will "mesh" better with each other. Ex: When Todd goes up the mountain the contrast between the rock and the ground is atrocious. By improving the textures , it will not improve how both mix. Will the grass thickness go up? Ex : When todd looks at that little grass field... it looks worse then oblivion to be honest, its like those old leaf effects that always pointed towards the player, and the ground texture looks like 2006. The items in the menu are atrociously low res also... thta i have no doubt will be vastly better on pc , with body textures also. I doubt Dx11 support... if its in... it wont make a crazy difference visiually.. but most computer might self destruct. What i saw is an utter lack of anti-aliasing and other stuff like that... so i'm guessing pc will smooth up thoses polygons a smidge. The Distance rendering at mid rage is still as bad as oblivion from what ive seen ( pc might be a little better), but far range is epicly gorgeous compared to oblivions patches of low res ms paint jobs. Magic is always beautiful in TES games , mosnters are alot more believable and natural.

That my 100% neutral opinion. oblivion tought me not to over hype at the cost of being disapointed. Also, Oblivion pushed the limits of the 360 way back when it was released. It was rushed and not optimized to utilise the maximum of the hardware .. but still... theres a certain cap that Skyrim cant go over. That why i find this new engine to just be an optimized version of the old one. ITs more polished... but sadly similar. I was honestly expecting BF3 quality .. or at least crysis ( its already 3 years old and still beats 90% of console games)

Here's the source on why they show off games on the 360 and how the PC version will look.

After the game is released will probably be the first time PC footage is shown, but by that time I would no longer care because I would have the game.

What you see is what you get. The PC Version will be the same as the console version, just with the creation engine. That's what it was for Oblivion that's what it's going to be for Skyrim.

yeah and the pc graphics better dont forget that!

It would be great to see the PC version but maybe its because since all PC users have different PC's they don't want to show it early on one cause some people assume that since a game works on one PC it works on any. Like people new to PC gaming or TES in general. It makes sense to show console version before release cause they pretty much run the same. Just an idea I maybe completely crazy.

Still, I'd just about kick a puppy to see a 2560x1600 screenie with all the AA, AF, *(DX11?), draw distances, etc. turned up. Perhaps some 1600p screen shots would be possible if there's not to be a viddy. I won't hold my breath though...

Don't worry the PC port will have DX11 exclusive shaders, tessellation, intense havoc physics, volumetric lighting and other good stuffies.

Todd Howard himself said, and I quote:
'I assure you the PC version looks even way better'.
Which can mean anything and nothing.

It could just be higher res textures, higher drawing distance, better shadows and AA+AF obviously (probably will be like that).
But cooler would be also to have better models, additional effects, better physics, etc. (most likely won't be like that, but will slowly come with mods).

I pretty much expect the above - higher res (true 1080 and up), better draw distances, AA & AF, and Todd mentioned better effects. I believe the difference will be notable.

And Todd said himself, they're starting with the 360 because it's easier to demo on, but also because they don't want to start with PC footage, then show weaker graphics later on. It's better to start with the 360 and graduate to PC nearer release, if ever. I get the feeling we won't see PC footage ever.
