When do we get to see some PC footage?

Post » Wed Sep 14, 2011 7:19 am

I suppose we'll have to wait for release.

The real question is....how long will it take the mod community to turn it into something somewhat worthy of current-gen graphics cards?

It all looks fantastic when running in a tiny window on YouTube...but blow that up to 1920x1200...

What you see is what you get. The PC Version will be the same as the console version, just with the creation engine. That's what it was for Oblivion that's what it's going to be for Skyrim.

That's what it was for Oblivion that's what it's going to be for Skyrim.

As someone who extensively played on all 3 platforms, I can tell you this certainly isn't true.

The major concern is this:

PC footage might not be shown because though the game might LOOK better (ie, all that takes is higher res graphics), the engine (which is set in stone) may not be optimized to handle it, and that would explain why they wouldn't show footage. In that case, people would have to heavily tweak the INI files, but at a certain point, the engine is limited in it's own rights and has a cap at what it can do.

If the engine is limited, having a more powerful PC would result in a better LOOKING game RUNNING in a much worse manner.

You don't seriously think that in pc version, 1280x720 pixels will be upscaled to 1920x1200/1920x1080 and therefore the image doesn't hold it's sharpness do you? Todd said that the pc version will have higher textures.

I completely disagree, Oblivion looked much better maxed out on pc than it did on any console. That was 5 years ago, and now computers are bigger, badder, cheaper, and overall just plain out becoming more popular, and game companies(gamesas included) are seriously starting to take all that into account when making their games. I have faith Skyrim will look tons better on PC than on console, and with modders like Qarl, there are no limits.

Probably never untill 11.11.11.

But it most likely wont be a BIG HUGE difference. Just because a game is made on PC, doesnt mean it will automatically look better. It depend on how much of the PC's power the developers took advantage of. By the sounds of it, it will probably be the same difference as Oblivion on PC to Oblivion on Consle, or the same difference as the Fallout games on PC to the Fallout games console. The only reason Todd said it would look "much better" on PC at Quakecon, is to shut up the PC community. Sorry if that sounds like an attack, but its true if you think about it. Why hadnt he hyped this "much better" PC version before? The only thing they hyped on PC is mods, but never graphics.

Can't wait to check YouTube like 5 minutes after release to see all the videos of nerds going crazy and like "Here's the history of my character in TES so far..."

-Insert Gigantic 2 hour long journal entry-

Okay here we go I'll be playing Skyrim a lot and since I'm completely amazing! you should rate/subscribe/comment!

...It's all on the Creation Engine.

Also, the PC version is going to have higher res textures than the console versions, so better detail there. It'll also have DX11 performance features, and draw distances will likely be longer.

Yes Oblivion not only looks better on PC it runs better too. I'm almost positive it'll be the same with Skyrim, that or I have a bad 360 as far as crashing goes.

Because them showing off the PC version would leave the console users disappointed and claim false advertising.

It's better to show off the worst console graphics-wise.

The PC version will be miles better graphically, simply because of out of game tweaks a.la .ini, higher resolution textures have been confirmed by gamesas, on top of graphics sliders allowing for more details than consoles allows, and that's not even counting mods and texture packs.

Not to mention higher display resolution.

May also be lack of clearing the cache. I had a horrible console first time around but it never had any issues with Bethesda open world games. On a PS3 this time around, but loving the fact they set up 3 rotating quicksaves and plenty of quicksave selections to choose when they go through. Just in case never hurts.

They can't show the PC version. It would give the Xbox and Playstation crowd unrealistic hopes :P :)

No. It will be better, but not "miles" better. If you set yourself up for "miles" better, you will be disappointed when you finally see that the PC version isnt that much greater, just better res. Be happy with that. Take it or leave it.

And no, bethesda didnt show off the console version for that reason. "false advertisment". Really? You really think thats why? Sorry, but that is a really dumb assumption, and it only goes to show that your being a PC elitest right now. Stop it. Immediately. If that were true, then why is all the footage on BF3 out right now is basically PC? Todd prefers Xbox, he has said it VARIOUS times. Im a PS3 gamer by the way.
