"When the next Elder Scroll is written, you shall be its scribe..."

Everyone rememembers the last epic words from Oblivion, right?

So do you think we'll hear anything about the Hero of Cyrodiil in TES V: Skyrim?
Anybody talking about the events from Oblivion?
Anything in the game which may have been inspired by the events from the main quest in Oblivion?

To me it seems natural that they would add a few references to events from Oblivion.

Any thoughts?

Well it has been 200 years, I doubt NPCs would still be talking about the events of Oblivion on a daily basis. But maybe there are some history books, and NPCs could be talking about what Cyrodiil is like now.

I think we will overhear it and will see references to him in books but it will stay off the story. Bethesda dont like to take the events of past game to directly explain actual ones. they will have reference and stuff like that but the game will stand on its own legs and you wont need to know the lore from past games to get into this one. its good for both people new to the series and the veterans

Yeah I think it would be pretty interesting.

Possibly an in-game book you can read that describes the events of OB would be pretty cool.

A few broken Oblivion gates scattered throughout the landscape would be a nice little detail. Maybe have some small communities built around them, like Ione in the Infernal City.

Naturally.

I mean, they've done it with every game as of yet. And most sequals reference their prequels. It's a given.

Ditto on the in-game books.

Knowing Beth, there will probably be several books about the Oblivion Crisis, and they will probably give conflicting reports of what really happened.

For that to be true, you need a few things. First, he would be over 200 years old. Second, he would need to be every single race at the same time. Third, he would need to be every single class at the same time. Fourth, he would have to act like a crazy mass killer and a saint at the same time. Fifth, he would have to be both male and female....

Erhem. Sixth. You need a reason for him to be there, of all places. And seventh, you need a name that encompaces all the possible names that the Champion of Cyrodiil could use

If you can come up with a believable character that ecompasses every single possability that the Champion of Cyrodiil could have been...I'd like to see it.

Spoiler
Even if the Champion of Cyrodiil used their power as the Mad God to make an avatar...you still need a reason why the mad god would give a hoot.

No way Esbern could be the Champion of Cyrodiil, or an Avatar of him as Mad-God. Creating an Avatar in Nirn would surely be beyond the power of a Daedric Prince as long as the barrier exists. Never did one of Sheogorath's servants enter Nirn in SI.

Though, ResistanceKnight, they have the power to make canonical decisions.

Nothing more than the "Nerevarine went to Akavir" line.
Maybe in books, but it's been 200 years, most people aren't going to be talking about it that much.
Of course. The main story of Oblivion is essential to what is transpiring in Skyrim.

Maybe Esbern is the champion of Cyrodiil . . .

Yeah, if Bethesda wanted to take a dump all over their "you can be who you want to be" concept. If Esbern was the CoC, then we can't be who we want in Oblivion without breaking canon, because we should be being Esbern.

Spoiler

By the events of Skyrim, Sheogorath will be Sheogorath. Any other previous identity will be long gone.

^ Yeah it was my understanding that the PC becoming Sheogorath was a temporary thing.

Anyway, like others have said, there will be books on the Oblivion crisis. Perhaps even one of those "every month of the year" books. Like 2920, the one about Vivec taking over Morrowind.

Yes, exactly. :P Besides, we've all ready been told which famous actor is going to be the voice. As much as I would like to hear it, I don't see Van Mox Sydow voicing an argonian.

They have the right, but they choose never to use it. They make it a point to avoid choosing what the past characters did and who they were.

You heard people in Oblivion talk about the Neravarine because it was only a few years after. Like 4, I think.
It's been 200 years since Oblivion now. That's a very long time.

Let me put it this way. What happened 200 years ago in Earths history? That was what, 1800's? 1811 to be more specific? What happened in 1811?
-First woman's golf tournament in history was held
-The birth off George G. Scott, famous British architect
-Paraguay gains independance from Spain
-Austria declared bankrupt as a nation

How many of these things do you hear people talking about on a daily basis..? I'd wager about none. People shouldn't still be whispering about the CoC 200 years later in Skyrim on a daily basis. It didn't even happen in Skyrim, it happened in the Imperial City. Old news, from a distant land.

Are you [censored] kidding? If a cataclysmic event happened in 1811, we would talk about it. WWI was 90 years ago but we still talk about it all the time. We even have a national holiday devoted to WWI (in Canada).

Oh, so you talk about World War One on a daily basis with people? No, I don't think so. Not even a weekly basis. Monthly basis, perhaps, with a certain few people who are interested in the event.
But no, sorry, World War One does not come up in everyday conversation. Not even remotely.

Oh yes it does. Especially around November, people wear poppies (which is funny because it's basically opium worship, but I digress), there are tv commercials about it, people go around asking for donations to god-knows-what veteran's [censored] fund, etc.

I simply don't even know how to reply to that lol. Because that's simply not true. When was the last time I saw a WORLD WAR ONE commercial on TV..? Seriously? The last time I heard someone talk about World War One was in history class 3 years ago. Legitimate statement.
People do not talk about World War One on a daily basis. That's absurd.
Joe: "Hey John, what's up?"
John: "Oh, nothing, just sitting here man."
Joe: "...you ever hear about WWI John?"

No. Doesn't happen.

Given, sure, a few people in this entire world may talk about WWI everyday. But please do not attempt to insult anyones intelligence by insinuating that WWI is a normal topic of everyday conversation with 90% of the entire world.
And if you actually believe that WWI is a normal topic of everyday conversation then, well, cool I guess. But it's not.

Unless, of course, Sheogorath/CoC left the Shivering Isles and replaced himself with another Sheogorath.

 No people wear the poppy becuase they were the first flowers to grow back on flanders fields (poppies like churned up ground)

even so people dont chat about the war in a "ooh Diedre hows Margret, by the way did you know about WW1, you DO! have you told Doris!"
