First random encounter? Darn thing circled over-head and then flew away! Grah! I was so excited, only to find it wasn't interested in giving me my first epic random dragon battle.
I think the first fight at the Wester Watchtower went well ('cause they make it easy with lots of help and shelter). The next one, however, was a disaster. I think it was on the road north from Valtheim Towers and I had a badly timed save so there was no easy way out without loosing tons of progress. I was really inexperienced and the difficulty was only Adept. Live and learn!
All of my early Dragon fights went pretty well. I didn't do Skyrim's main quest until I started my second character, so I'd already invested 100+ hours into the game by the time I began fighting Dragons. I had a pretty good feel for what I was doing by then.
Vanilla wise? Cakewalk.
With Deadly Dragons and Dragon Combat Overhaul?
Cowering in the ruined tower surrounded by my own voided bowels and tears, pleading to the gods to not let me die.
after a few hours i quickly went to expert difficulty and had no problem with the 1st dragon encounter set-piece due to the low level they put it at.
however, when i restarted and went to master i got my butt handed to me by that same dragon as i foolishly rushed it.
when i reloaded and kept dying, getting mad and whining about the flames going through the watchtower walls and that idiot not getting out of MY way, i began playing smarter and realized master was the difficulty level for me.
When I finally had dragons, I died several times from standing on the top of the tower, jaw on the ground, gawking at this incredilbe dragon flying over my head and making me crispy. I honestly think I died at least three times before I ever even lifted a bow or blade against it. It was magnificent and one of my earliest experiences in TES.
I'm sure I died several more times before bringing it down. I died a lot with that poor first character. That guy took a beating.
