The assumtion of the question is that you could even kill the FIRST dragon encountered. Maybe the game wants you to get beat down by the first dragon. Maybe, the first one you see will end with a cutscene of you running like a fool no matter what?

Depends entirely on the context & plot at the time.

If, for example, I'm with some NPCs in a "plot moment", and they're all saying "OMG! It's too early.... this foe is beyond you! You must flee!".... I'll probably flee.

If, on the other hand, I've been told, "okay, there's a dragon over that ridgeline - to unlock your potential and begin your quest, you must slay it!"... I'll probably go for it.

Umm, what kind of choice is "coward" as compared to running away? In my dictionary that doesn't show up as a verb, and it seems to me that a coward would run... or stand paralyzed and get killed, but I don't think anyone would actively choose that option (who knows, however, how frightening those dragons will be).

Anyway, I guess with my first characters I'll probably run. I like to play weak thief-characters, and they know when to be brave and when to run away.

I'm betting our first dragon encounter will be scripted as part of the "escape being executed" opening, and that we most likely won't be able to fight that first dragon.

Throw my weapon at its face and just watch it fly by as it misses, then ill throw my hands up and and squeal while running like a coward for the nearest cave. Or ill shoot all my arrows at it and watch it fly off with said arrows...then ill tell myself atleast it wasnt a deer this time.

I hope such problems will be fixed in Skyrim.

When I see a Dragon for the first time I will stop in my tracks and start shouting profanities at it such as "Your mother was an Iguana" and "I'm going to pull your head off to see if it grows back like your tail does".
Apparently shouting at them is confirmed to be how to kill them right?
