I trust Bethesda enough to craft a compelling story.
I trust them to create a spectacular world to tell it in.
So when I think about Skyrim, I tend to focus on the things I loved about Morrowind and detested about Oblivion. It comes down to two things that shouldn't surprise anyone.
1) Is my character progressing in a meaningful way?
- If the entire world levels around me, I do not feel fear, because I won't find anything too scary. Furthermore, I can't return to a low leveled area and lay the smack down on the enemies that challenged me before I grew into a hero.
2) Trophies of conquest
- Morrowind's object placement allowed me to array my lair with all the trophies of my adventures in a totally organic and non-contrived way. No need for display cases, since you could put the objects anywhere.
So the first thing I think about regarding Skyrim is "will the game address these points"?
