Where and How do I extract Fallout 1 mods to?

Post » Sat Nov 14, 2009 7:44 am

I recently purchased the Fallout collection by "White Label." I got pissed that my Intelleigence was so low so I immediately went to "No Mutants Allowed" to install "Odins" Fallout Super character mod. Expecting it to be quick and easy, I was surprised when their were no instructions on how to install it and where, I tried opening the Fallout directory and extracted, and was again was surprised when it said "Administrative Privalages required", for I was runing Win-Zip as Sdministrator on my vista computer.

I need help, for I dont want to have to use mentats every [censored] day to speak to people or make an new charcter that, while may be smart, will have average luck.

I know, but No Mutants Allowed and The Escapist was no help, and assuming every modder here has played and downloaded Fallout 1 mods before, I thought I'd give it a shot.

That's a silly assumption. I recommend finding a mod with a readme to learn the basics of installing Fallout 1 mods.

How!?

I there no one who can help me!!!!!!??????

P.S. I bought the Fallout collection, which may not support mods, for the paths on some of the files dont match anything in the Fallout directory. I hope to [censored] god this isnt the case, because if so, I wasted 20 bucks on Amazon.com which would svck balls.

Hate to dissapoint you, but I think it's no better than fifty-fifty. I myself have never tried to install mods for fallout 1, and have long since lost my copy. I have installed one big mod for fallout 2 (and I can't imagine the file structures are much different), but the result was far from flawless. I wound up with a 100% repeatable CTD everytime I tried to enter a key city, and the problem never got fixed. And that mod had a self-installing doo-dad. Hopefully somebody who does more than lurk at nma spies this post.

Are you sure? Did you post in the Fallout General Modding at NMA? They're usually very helpful. Actually, I'm looking there now and I see no question from today like the one you're asking. If you want answers about Fallout 1 modding I suggest you post a question there since that's where most of the modders (if not all of them) of the first two Fallouts hang out.

Ok then. Up on the top, in the middle, in green text it should read in this order, from left to right: FAQ - NMA - Search - Memberlist - Usergroups - Register

Just post again in this thread if you still need help after that.

Also, I just realized what mod you're trying to use. If all you want is basically a "cheat" character...I'd suggest using FALCHE which let's you tweak just about every stat there is for your character (and it's pretty cool too!).

To put it simply, this really will ruin a large majority of the game for you. Play it without power playing, play a character with *limitations* and actual specilisations. This isn't Fallout 3, and the amount of depth in character creation alone in Fallout 1/2 is what attributes it to being so good.

Seconded. I suppose I should have given that disclaimer too. Sometimes I feel like I'm trying to convert Christians over to Atheism at these forums though (i.e. lost causes and all that).
