Where and when should Fallout 4 take place?

Post » Sat Jun 05, 2010 8:58 am

Back to the region where Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 took place, and continue the story of the factions encountered there.

Tokyo , Copenhagen , Beijing , London.. They all probs wouldn't work.. But still this is my first fallout, I didn't really like the whole D.C. wasteland.. Most of it seems the same
I would love an arctic version though that would be sweet

ideas//
New York: memorable places such as the USS intrepid, Empire state building, and who knows what other little hidey holes.
Southeast commonwealth:did any trees survive? (only played fallout 3) Maybe some forrest warfare? maybe fort brag?
Alaska: maybe a war is going on between the enclave and the ghoul remnants of the chinese paratroopers.
England: part of the vault tec technology was copied. You escape an English vault (I think somebody else said this. just confirming the idea)

A game that you can play as the enclave would be cool.

As a Brit, I'd love to see Fallout 4 set in England, considering the fact that culture was landlocked in the 50's, I'd really love to see some wastelanders taking tea at the edge of a radioactive crater.

I mean, think about it - we don't have any troubles about our national landmarks getting blown up (I think V for Vendetta cleared that one up nicely), and post-bomb London would be one hell of a sight to see. Imagine scouting through the ruins of Buckingham palace, or climbing the Black Tower, now infested with Ghouls.

God, I want that so HARD.

Yeah!!! It would still feel like fallout to considering in the fifties america and britain were practically the same culture and music wise. The UK and USA are allies too so Vault-Tech could of been introduced in Britain!!!

didn't read many posts, sorry, but heres what i want: New York City, only if a darned bomb wasn't dropped directly on it though, no fun playing in a crater. but it would be cool if some of the buildings were gutted like in # 3 and you could walk across on those makeshift bridges, and maybe some buildings could be very fragile by now and can topple at something like an askew missile.

Florida. The entire state (or most of it anyway) of Florida.
Glitzy 50's era South Beach hotels and towers with vibrant, yet faded colors peeling off the walls.
Swamps filled with mutated alligators.
A wrecked Disney World-esque theme park to explore (Raiders living IN the Pirates of the Carribean ride? LOL)
Nuclear power plants, major military bases, NASA, etc.

There's a lot of potential in Florida.

I would like Fallout 4 to based in the US. In San Francisco or Las Vegas maybe. A post-apocalyptic Golden Gate bridge or Luxor pyramid. Just a thought. If it were to go international something they could do is that the Brotherhood repaired/found a small fleet of Enclave vertibirds and managed to make it to England and establish a BOS presence there or had to go stop some threat. Maybe the main character would be an initiate or a tribal that eventually runs into the Brotherhood.

This may of already been said, but i'm pinning my hopes on London, i'd love to see the Brother hood of steel make the ruins of Buckingham Palace thier base, or to see Big Ben as a station for AA guns, this would be pretty cool in my opinion.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but how the hell is the BoS getting to london?

Anyway, deep down we all know Bethesda will have FO4 in the US.

New England.

Not too sci-fi, not too un-realistic.
There are much forests in NE, a remarkable place for a few Deathclaws.

Given the very small, detailed nature of Bethesda's games, we can assume the next Fallout will also take place in a limited geographical area. One of the reasons Fallout 3 works is because of the iconic nature of many locations in and around DC. The question is whether there is another location that could provide the same sense of amazement. Perhaps NYC, but even that city has fewer iconic locations.

I also wonder about when the story should take place. Each of the RPG's has taken place after the previous, but the downside is that the world has to slowly improve over time and then you lose the fun of the setting. So maybe the next game should happen closer to the time of when the nukes fell.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

To me I don't really care where the location will be as long they don't diverge to far as there being Iconic buildings in this fallout not being form the USA they are just scenery. As for the world improving I have played all the fallout games and so there hasn't been much improvement as the fallout universe has been created a new game anew area to tame thats all you will need.

Buffalo, New York.

Why?
1) I live there.
2) It's very very close to Canada. The setting could provide heaps of background information around the annexation.
3) Irradiated Niagara Falls
4) Old Fort Niagara - could be used like the Pentagon
5) New food - Chicken wings
6) Permanent nuclear winter
7) Going back on the whole Canada issue, it's still in America, so retrofuture still works, but we could still see another country.

New York City. Might even stir up some controversy too!

Yes, I also want Fallout 4 to be in Florida. In addition to what you said, there could also be ocean coastline, underwater shipwrecks/vaults, mutated sharks, everglade swamps, and a huge NASA base at the end of the game where you win by launching yourself to a hidden colony on the moon....

Van Buren was not set in Florida. It was set in Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado.

The canceled Fallout Tactics 2 was set in Florida.

Yes, Bethesda probably will keep it in the U.S, but thinking back on it there could be lots of intresting ways for the BOS to get to England. I could of picked them up in my car for example.

Persnally, I would like to see FIV set in Moscow - it would be an epic playground. But I thing it will be in US - 100%. I suggest California - I really want to see New Reno in 3d :-) If it must be a new area, so I think it *must* be Chicago, as one traveller said: if fashist would built a city on Mars, they would build Chicago. Awesome city!

Well, i think it cool if the next Fallout took place in Canada.

People would be able to see the radiated wreckage of Ottawa maybe? I can imagine seeing the Parliament building or the RC Mint.

It might not be hard to implement the americana that Fallout is known for seeing as Canada was annexed by the U.S.

Just an idea.

Yeah, Canada would be interesting.

I'm not Canadian (I'm from New Zealand and I'm pretty sure those little islands escaped most of The Great War) but from the back story Canada would have some really interesting points, like left over signs of anti-American sentiment, signs of a brutal crack down and I'm pretty sure Fallout games mentions that there were Vaults in Canada. Vancover or Ottawa. Wouldn't hurt the overall story at all.

Reno is in Nevada, not California.

Chicago is not a new area, it was in Fallout Tactics.

Have the next game take place anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere. Create a catastophic winter environment.

This is what i want from Fallout4.

1. No LVL cap like in World of Warcraft.

2. Drivable vehicles like hover crafts and amored vehicles and motor bikes and helicopters etc.

3. NO RESPAWNS but reinforcements are acceptable.

4. A Brahmin pack mule that can carry up to 10x more than you can.

5. Fast travel in doors.

6. Can have anyone as your companion including NPC's if you ask the right questions and have the right bribe like caps or for a special item you need to find.

7. A map that is at least 4x bigger than the Fallout3 map.

8. Make it harder to earn action points but if you make a critical hit you get extra action points.

9. Dual wield for some weapons and have alternate fire capabilities and have different ammo types for some weapons.

10. Some new weapons and some new baddies on top of the old ones with some new NPC's and have some quests with large battles in them where the enemy comes in waves. Also make everything more destructible like buildings etc.

Yes it should take place in a different place but even better you should be able to fast travel through time to different places in time like the 50s 60s 70s 80s 90s even the year 3000A.D etc. and each time has its own map.
