where are all of my NIF Files?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:27 am

After finishing a part of a recent project ( See moving rail carts), I clicked on save, and went up to build the access. For some reason, all of the Flora_tree_BM_01 trees were replaced with a little warning cube. I clicked on one, and it claims that there was no art file. I have spent hours on trying to figure out how to import pre-made art files, but none show up. Is there any way to fix this?

This description is just vague enough to not help... sorry. I can give you some of the required information to make this so someone might help you, though.

I'll start with the simpler things to ask, I know this might come across as no-brainer at times but bear with me (and someone else with more knowledge than me would ask some of these as well...)

going with importing pre-made art files, assuming NIF files from title... Did you make or download these? then add them into a mod you are making in the CS? Assuming this was done, then you should have copies of them even if they do not show up in-game. If this is not the problem then skip to next question.

If you tried to enter them in a mod, did you create new objects, or change existing ones? if you changed existing ones, and then cleaned the mod (using a cleaning utility like TESAME) these references might have been cleaned out of the mod by the utility.

Did you change the texture, or download a texture replacer? If the texture for the Flora_tree_BM_01 mesh is moved or missing then it would give an error like this

This was my first attempt to help you with this problem, and I don't know if any of this correctly identifies the problem or not; but if you could provide more info on what you were doing and steps taken then mebbe we can nail down the problem and provide a solution

They are the trees from sosltheim. I got them from a CD and added them to a mod of mine. I did not make new copies. They were the same exact ones as in sosltheim. no different ID. Did not change or move texture. It does not even show up when I tried to re-load it. I use NoM, so all I see are those. Nothing else. Last time I touched the tree was for moving it three days ago, and it was fine when I saved, Then I log on, and there is a little box showing an exclamation point instead. I checked Warnings.txt and it said there was an error loading and it was replaced with that symbol.

You don't need to pull any files from the CD, just activate the Bloodmoon.esp when you load up the CS to use those resources.

Did you uninstall Bloodmoon or something?

I did not uninstall, and sadly, your method did not work. I think that I made a plugin that was combined with the masters. It did not work. I opened up bloodmoon, and it did. I'm thinking of removing and re-combining files

The description of your problem seems very simple. But you're making it sound very confusing. so...

I have spent hours on trying to figure out how to import pre-made art files, but none show up. Is there any way to fix this?

Place them in the correct sub-folder in your Data Files.
You don't want the path to be too long, or you'll get a warning when you use the file in the CS.
You then select the correct file from the object's reference window in the CS.
If the file is a format that the CS can use, it should work.

You don't need to pull files from the CD unless you want to modify the file itself.
If you want to just use trees from Solstheim, just get them in CS by activating the Bloodmoon.esp

There is nothing wrong with making an esp dependent on the three Masters. That's how the you use the resources from them.
If you're using these trees, you need to have Bloodmoon.esp activated alongside your mod.

Are you using a modified Flora_tree_BM_01 file? If so, there's something wrong with it and you should delete it from your Data Files so that the game returns to using the original one. Morrowind will always use the default file if a modded one is not present.

Keep in mind that objects need two files. A Mesh and a Texture. The problem you're describing is a missing Mesh.

Hopefully, I haven't read your posts wrong and misunderstood you. And I hope that my post helped :P

Let me put this out there:
1: I did NOT modify the tree, it modified on it's own
2: I use NoM, and it adds files to the Data Folder.
3: I DO NOT SEE ANYTHING FOR WHAT WAS FROM THE CDS
4: I do not know what is wrong or what is missing, but the files from the discs do not appear, and I cant find it!

ok, we are not trying to give you a hard time... just trying to figure out how to help. Now you mention NOM. Can you give the ENTIRE mod list you are using? sounds like there is a mod conflict that is causing you trouble.

Only NoM 3.0 through 3.2. Everything except CoM compatability plugin because of the children of morrowind is a master file. I don't have it, so I left it out. It hasn't interuppted before.
