Where are all my Shield and Sword Warriors at?

Post » Fri Nov 05, 2010 9:48 am

Im gonna make a female Nord warrior with sword and shield, but with some archery skills. I'll let off a powerful arrow, then take out what remains of the opponent with some good ol slashing..

So it will require more touch or feeling?

Yes, yes it will.

It's going to require you to get a -feel- for the situation. As in, when to use your shield... when to lower it to fire off a spell... when to raise it again. You've got to be touchy. You've got to be hands on, always prepared to change tactics at a moment's notice. It's not an entirely unheard of use for the word.

Although it's possible that the intended word may have been tactical.

But either one works, based on how you perceive it's use in the sentence.

You know what I'd rather have? A spear-and-shield combo. Go all 300 on people.

I think My Nord will switch between a sword and shield and a large 2 handed axe.

My first character will definitely be a shield and sword wielding nord on the first playthrough. I've never been a big fan of magic or ranged, but in the previous elder scrolls games melee combat was so patheticly boring that i always ended up creating a few overpowered 1-2 shot kill spells to rush through the quests.

In Skyrim i have high expectatins of the new combat system. I really hope it becomes a fun thing to do. After my first playthrough i'll be getting a dual wielding nord probably (gonna go for double swords). I'd still prefer a shield and sword combo though, but i'll have to try everything :P.

Let's hope combat will be as as fun as we all hope.

Oh, I hear you. Sword and shield all the way! I'm going to throw some personality skills in there as well to make a leader type character.

Little off-topic but out of curiosity...

It's given that you can block with a shield and I've heard you can block (albeit not as easily) with a two-hander but I haven't heard anything about blocking with a one handed weapon... Can you?
I've heard you cant with a spell equipped but what about with no spell equipped just a one handed sword? It seems like that would... I dunno... not be cool.

Im not sure, but that would be a new animation for every weapon, so I think it will only be twohanders and shields that can, not sure though.

Heavy armor, Shield and Longsword, Argonian

'nuff said

Same - after I've tried dual wielding swords first as it's new in TES.

I'm going to make a sword and shield warrior as my first character. Swords are my favourite one handed weapons and I can't live without a stout shield

Since the dawn of time my style has always been sword′n′board... or well... mace′n′board (never actually used a sword with a shield... and I never will!)

So I will also be going with a mace + a shield in Skyrim if I can fit alteration+restoration magic into it well.

I may be forced to go shield′n′hand otherwise...

/shrug

I've no idea what character I'll make (I need to see the character system first), but the vast majority of Oblivion characters I've made have ended up as Sword-and-Shield sneaky archer mages. :D

i.e, sneaky, with just enough archery to open a fight with sneak attack, just enough magic to support with healing/telekinesis/soul trap/etc, and most combat done with sword/shield/light armor

I'll admit that I've never made a "tank" type, though. (Sword + shield + heavy armor). Heavy armor was always too heavy and slow. :)

Well, I wanted to make a spear+sword&board warrior, but then it doesn't have spears, so I'll probably just make an archer or something.

well, for my second playthrough i will be a warrior and I'm certainly not wielding two weapons... and the idea seems quite silly to me. For my first playthrough I'll probably be a mage though, that is if the mage class doesn't svck in this game.
Or I might even be a battlemage melee/magic. Can't really say until the game is out, but I certainly won't be wielding two weapons.

Yes, I meant to say "Tactile" Todd Howard has used it in that context to explain Skyrim's combat.

My most played character in oblivion is an imperial knight, shield + blade all the way! As for skyrim i might use shields as i'm thinking of doing a battlemage with magic in one hand and a shield in the other one

Shield is for cowards. Just take a huge double-handed sword and confront your enemies, son.

So for armors.
