Where are all the kids?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 6:17 pm

Sounds strange, but I miss seeing children running around in the streets like in Fable. I think it would make the world more believable and immersive. They should be immune to all damage and that sort of thing, of course. I in no way endorse corporal punishment and the like. Your thoughts? Should Bethesda include kids in Skyrim?

P.S. I have no idea if this has been brought up before.

i actually think this one will be in with all the children we saw in there future games. People loved the role play and in oblivion the dead children in the black hand quest thing was really scary.

Posts discussing child killing go away. We have these threads often and we usually have to close them due to folks discussing it anyway despite our rule against it.

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/724862-forum-rules-and-general-information/
Discussion of controversial current events may be closed without notice if it appears the discussion has, or will, become disorderly. Likewise, discussion of killing children is not permitted as it is classed as mature content, neither is it a feature of Bethesda Softworks games.

I have a couple of hours to kill here so instead of locking I will here forward delete such posts and warn anyone who discusses it. Maybe we can have at least a few pages before it gets so tiring I have to lock it.

I just hope the children are like the ones in New Vegas; out of the way, for the most part, and were nice and child-like, instead of being a bunch of snot-nosed brats who you can't even tell to settle down or give them a tongue lashing.

Also, I'm curious to know what the children of various races look like.

On this subject, if anyone has yet to see the 'Children of Morrowind' mod, it is one of the most immersive things I've seen in a game. It adds mothers carrying babies, toddlers, kids, teenagers, etc, of all the races too! They are all very professionally voiced as well.

Check out my LP in my sig to see them (Chapter 1, part 3/4 is where they first appear I think).

The kids also have amazing animations too, like dancing around, sword-fighting, balancing on high place, etc.

I had one experience with one of them that was so amazing; Arriving back in Balmora after a particularly bloody battle, I was heavily wounded and cursed with the blight. I stopped by the temple to be cured and on my way out (I still hadn't fully healed yet) I passed by a little girl and her friends and she goes: 'Do you know you're bleeding?' It was freaking hilarious, I almost fell out of my chair. Needless to say, I think this mod is a perfect example of how kids can add life to the world and a believable level of immersion. Anyone with Morrowind should check it out.

They're all...done away with....I'm deeply hoping for this. I saw one kid in oblivion and that was too much!

I hope children are in too... I have three kids, so a game world without children really seems to break the suspension of disbelief.

Daggerfall did have kids in them.

Well, looks like the nords of Skyrim proudly took their glued on underwear, shredded them apart, and got to baby making, while the people of Morrowind and Cyrodiil were too prudish :P

No it doesn't, just assume people are born full grown. After all in some fantasies children are born from trees, it's not that big a stretch. (no pun intended)

Me either. I don't get the fuss, in game or out... I hope they keep children out of Skyrim, seriously. They would just annoy me and on top of that break immersion (for obvious reasons which I will not mention here :P )

Yes them dragons like there food in a convenient "Snack Size"
But in all honesty i really don't know how well they will do with kids this time around
Skyrim seem like the worst place in the world to raise them though.

I always pretended they all sent their kids some place to be raised. But mostly I didn't really notice or think about their absence. It will be quite nice to see a few kids running around I guess...if I don't have to take care of the little brats and if they stay off my lawn.

I hope the kids are not like the ones in fallout I hated how when they saw me take something they would walk up and take all the stolen items I had.

Too bad, because they're in.

Skyrim seem like the worst place in the world to raise them though.

Because Scandinavia is such a horrible place to raise children, right?

I'm pleased kids are in. Will add immersion greatly, and I'd like to see kids dashing around in alleys and streets.

I agree, this was a fantastic mod. Hopefully this is what Bethesda takes inspiration from when they add the children in SR.

I would like this. It's something I lobbied for back before Oblivion. When you walk through town, there are kids, no matter where you are in the world. I would also like to see pets. There are always animals running around town, too. It doesn't have to be a big giant mess of them, but a few here and there would add some atmosphere.

And I love the Children of Morrowind mod. It's one of the best examples of excellent user-created content that I can think of. A definite must-play.

I just hope they don't get in the way and that I can tell them to scram when I don't want them around.

It's just as natural to remove children from the game as it is to remove females.

Just as long as they aren't as bad as the foul mouthed little bastards in Little Lamplight. They were amusing at first, but got really old really fast.... and without aging too.
