Where are all the quests?

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 12:41 am

I am out of quests and sad about it. I have close to 80 hours in and the only thing left to do other than repeatable quests(of which I have done lots), or raising companion affinity(which I have almost every companion at max) is to choose an end game faction then finish those few quests.

The lack of locations that provide quests, factions that provide quests or just random quests in the world has got me bummed. Seems like a lot less than Skyrim to me and I never even had any of the expansions for that. When is the DLC coming?

Could you change your font color, please? The dark grey against the black is kind of hard to read!

I do agree that the quest load does leave something to be desired, but, there's always exploration and radiants and the occasional "other" quest to do.

I've a lot of hours on 5 characters in to the game, but I always seem to end up moving on once I get in the upper 60's-70's and the only thing left to do is farm the Glowing Sea.

Doesn't bother me. These most recent runthroughs, I'm just taking my time and not worrying about quests. Currently my level 17 is exploring Lexington (having just completed the Corvega Plant) and building settlements and my 15 PA/BoS has just started out on with Danse from the Police Station and is taking his time too.

Explore the world. Many quests will be given only by exploring and discovering what triggers them.

BGS games aren't about quests, though. The goal of their games is always exploring the world. Quests are offered as a means to prompt players to do this, mainly for players that need prompting. Many players simply role play and explore due to the role play they do.

Indeed. Explore. find those triggers.
There is also a lot of stuff like Seperated Family, that aren't really quests, but wind up playing out like one.
I spent a good 4 hours yesterday on that alone.

I have done so many repeatable quests for Preston, I cannot do anymore. That is how I raised all my followers affinity quickly was just doing repeatable quests for BoS, Minutemen and Railroad.

I have been exploring, but have not really ran into any quests doing so. Seems like when I would explore on Skyrim I would always run into quests. I have a site pulled up with a list of all the quests and there just isn't really any left to complete or find.

Also, in other Bethesda games(Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3 or New Vegas) there seemed to be many more factions that offered quests. Disappointing there isn't more in this game. Or more locations(towns/villages) in general for that matter.

I guess I can spend time building my base up and looking for comics, bobble heads, or other loot. But honestly I was enjoying the quests in this game(other than the radiant ones) and was hoping for more. I feel like I ran out much quicker than in other Bethesda games.

Explore Diamond City and Goodneighbor. There's a lot of quests in those cities. Heck, I've found one for the first time after 200 hours in Diamond City.

Plus there's a lot of more quests hidden throughout the Commonwealth.

This isn't my first Bethesda game I have ever played guys. Trust me I already did everything you can do in Diamond City and Goodneighbor, first places I cleared. Plus they are really the only "towns" in the game. Bunker Hill being mainly a fort or settlement.

there arent as many quest in the game as there are points of interest. in an open world game, the points of interest are usually what make it more fun. =)

You're only 80 hours in and you have done all the quests? It sounds like you need to go do some exploring than. Not exploring for quests, just exploring/free roaming. There is a ton of stuff to explore that should give you well over 80 hours to do if you don't just run and gun everything, take time to read the terminals and explore the whole area, you'll be surprised with what you find.

Can you change your text to black because if I concentrate enough I can still see your post when you are using dark grey....

Since you are comparing Fallout 4 to Skyrim, is that vanilla Skyrim with no mods and no DLC?

Trying building some settlements that will kill time...

fallout has alot of quests but they are HARD to find , i mean for me a veteran fallout player finding them was of medium difficulty but for someone new to the franchise = no chance

suggestion - make pip boy markers for locations with quests

Is that even possible? The only way to do that is with PC cheats isn't it? How can you have perked up enough to be able to pick and hack every location you need to that early in the game?

If you're using PC console cheats, then yeah, I can see it. But if you are just playing the game the way Bethesda intended there is no way you completed every quest in 80 hours. It's not possible. Even with companions. I was locked out of several quests until I found a particular companion who was capable of helping me complete it, and it took forever to get her.

There are so many differing aspects of the game depending on how you play it that I just don't see anyone being able to complete it in 80 hours. For example, I have a settlement with just a few people. They are all assigned to a duty. One of my guards was kidnapped from his post and I had to go save him. Prior to this run through the game I had almost 200 hours in and never once ran into that situation.

There are quests given when you read terminals, read notes on bodies, certain robots. It's really pretty massive.

I will admit that the quests don't seem to be as in depth as previous Fallout quests. They seem to be able to be completed in a much shorter amount of time, but there seems to be more of them when you take all the ways to get them into consideration. I've got over 300 hours in and I'm still finding locations and quests. Heck, I just discovered that there are a ton of locations off the map ...

Anyway, good luck. Hopefully you have a console version and you can sell it to recoup some money.

You do not need PC cheats to complete everything you can do in both those places early in the game.

I have done every quest on this guide that you can do without making a faction hostile. All I can do now is repeatable quests(of which I've had my fill), explore locations for loot, and build up my base. Or reload an earlier save then finish a different factions endgame quests. Kinda disappointed with the lack of quests honestly.

But you said you only have 80 hours in to the game. It is simply not possible to do that. The developers, before release, said there were over 400 hours worth of gameplay.

You must have missed something.

Not really important though. If you feel like you're done, then it's time to move on until some additional content comes out.

It's not like there aren't a lot of other good games out there! :)

Okay, sorry I just looked at my playtime and I have closer to 140 hours in. Still, I am out of quests...lols

What are you guys thinking takes so long to complete in Diamond City or Good Neighbor? There really isn't much to do either place.

Sounds like a bit of a problem. I suggest starting a different playthrough. This game is about immersion and exploration. Instead of making a beeline through the main quests do a few, then stop to completely explore the sections of the map associated with those areas before moving on. And instead of going for all the OP skill from the start get the skills that help you explore more of the game - the lockpicking, hacking, charisma and luck perks - which helps add longevity to the game. Over all sorry about your luck man. Dont see how you moved that fast because im at over 120 hours on my second account and i still feel like im only at 50% of the main quests this time, my first playthrough i stopped playing after Kellogg. If youre up to it, play it again, this time more methodically.

Guess I am not the only one that noticed this and had a problem with it. Like I said, I played Skyrim without expansions and did not run out of quests this quickly it seems...

are you on the PC? If so, consider trying several of the quest mods that are up on Nexus. Be aware that even though ppl have played these fine without serious issues, all mods at this pre GECK point are still in their beta stages. So you're basically freelance beta testing if you dl and play these. Just make a copy of your existing saves before installing anything.

Also basically what many other ppl have been saying in this thread. But by your own admission, you're no new player to the fallout universe. So you already know the game is what you make of it. You're going to have to get creative and do RPing/exploration instead. At least until Beth makes mods official so you can play all the quest mods you want.

I've been doing this since the first nexus mods started coming out. I don't play to complete or "beat" the game for achievements as much as exploration. So I backed up and removed my original saves from the game folder. These saves were with the original male PC I created from day 1. Given this PCs military background, I'm RPing a good alignment, dutiful soldier/frat boy character which will ultimately join the BoS as part of the MQ. This PC will try to seek world peace as his ultimate goal in the MQ. So I'll use this PC to do the best ending working with all 3 factions.

I also wanted to explore the Commonweatlh with a more "evil" and misanthropic view of the world. But didn't want to jeopardize any progress made with this male PC using the pre-GECK mods that are currently out. So I started a whole new and heavily modded game to play a female PC. I plan on having this PC join the Institute, because this is the only faction which appeals to her high intelligence and very cerebral nature. Like her GI spouse, she believes that victory comes on the back of sacrifice for the greater good of the world--provided this ideal doesn't require her own. So basically, she has a selfish, egocentric streak which her GI spouse completely lacks. Which opens several RP interactions, conversation branches, and opportunities with NPCs which my first PC would have never explored.

This PC was already saucy/sarcastic to begin with before the fallout. But she was also a devoted mother to her husband and infant son. So after witnessing the murder of her spouse and kidnapping of her child, she became a changed woman. She became extremely cynical and vengeful after discovering what was left of the world after leaving the vault. And with this discovery, also developed something of a mean streak. Unlike her dead spouse, she's a loner and so prefers solace in her travels. But will suffer the companionship of Cait or Nick who are somewhat misanthropic like she is.

Also being physically less imposing as her vet hubby, I made her a high sneak, high charisma and intelligence character build. I use these main attributes in her personal quest to hunt the ones who wronged her family. And ultimately to find her beloved son.

In the 80 hrs it took you to "complete" FO4, did you truly complete the game as both genders and explored the endgame for all the involved factions? because if so--and you're not motivated towards d/l any existing Nexus mods, or do any sandbox role playing--then you're stuck in limbo until either GECK or the first DLC comes out.....
